need some help in imi 77gr and wide velocity range

i have a BA 18” barrel that has a 158fps spread using a garmin xero. imi razor core from 2016 lot. i did 27 shots with:

2848fps high
2684fps low

can a shitty barrel do that? even his Douglas seems extreme and thats no shitty barrel.
garmin problem?
what other info do we need here?
i chrono’ed my buddys douglass barrel and his had a 95fps spread.
2837fps to 2742fps over only 5 shots.

Night Vision What are your thoughts on the CNVD PVS-24?

Hey boys,

I’ve hunted feral hogs at night with dual tube nods, ir lasers, and thermal optics. Hunting tactics are scouting and locating groups of hogs on large patches of farmland and get in close to engage.

I recently got a deal on a CNVD PVS-24; not the LR version. I’ve been using it with a LPVO, and really like the little clip on. Image starts diminishing past 6X, but from 2X-6X it’s FOV and image quality is nice!

The issue is, I’ve never used another clip on other than this one. Most everything I hunt at night is 200yds and in….I don’t really have a way at this time to range, make turret adjustments and engage distant targets….

That being said, am I missing a lot by not going with a PVS-22, PVS-30, or PVS-27 that accommodates more magnification?

Just like to get your thoughts on them compared to the PVS-24 for short to mid range dynamic night hunting.

Thanks for your time!

Hunting & Fishing Early Sagerat hunting

I started rat season early this year. They've been out for almost two months now here. I won't hunt the hard, I usually wait for that until the babies are out. Here's a near miss form yesterday using my Glock 23 open sights. I haven't even mounted my steel sights yet because this pistol seems spot on. 83 yards coldbore. The bullet slid right into the hole. I'm not sure how I missed him, must of been a hair low.

SOLD WTS - AI ATX

Up for sale is my AI ATX. It has a stainless 6CM proof research barrel (about 900rds). I have owned this rifle since purchase from a SH member a few years ago. Its been amazing. Extremely accurate, incredible consistent, generally everything an AI should be. It is currently rattlecanned, which I realize probably takes away from overall value, but has no effect on performance. Everything included is listed below, and can come with or without the scope/bipod. Not willing to part out beyond that. Can get more pics on request. Suppressor NOT included. Paypal FF shipping to your FFL included.
Rifle+Accessories ($4500)
-(Originally Black AI ATX)
-Folder Stock Adapter
-Full NV Bridge
-Short Pic Rail section
-Hoptic Cheek Piece Saddle
-Original WinTac 6.5CM Barrel (Maybe 30rds through it)
-2 Original ATX Magazines
-USB Manual

Rifle + Scope ($7200)
-Nightforce ATACR 7-35X56 F1 Mil-XT reticle
-Spuhr 1.54 Mount with RAPTAR adapter

Rifle+ Scope+ Bipod ($7500)
-Thunderbeast bipod
-RRS SOAR ARCA adapter

SOLD Cowan front rest

Cowan front rest. These rests were manufactured as a school shop project by Joe Cowan at the Greater Altoona CTC in Altoona, Pennsylvania. My understanding is the school no longer offers them, it was a very neat shop class project when in operation though! Windage and elevation adjustable

Included are the added “f class” feet and the “speed screws”. The added feet are about 2.5 pounds a piece I believe, and the speed screws attach to the feet screws and have a courser thread pitch for faster adjustments

Weight with feet installed is approximately 20 pounds and approximately 9.5 pounds without the f class feet

Also have 4 protektor front “bags” that were used with the unit. I believe all in it was approximately $525 new

Asking 375 shipped

SOLD Grayboe ridgeback SA w. Bottom metal

Lightly used ridgeback for 700 SA. Grayboe bottom metal and sawtooth rifles arca rail.

I bedded the stock and used touch up paint to cover paint chip areas. The paint makes the bedding look like shit but it turned out decent for a rookie job and made the rifle that was in it shoot very well, but since it’s not factory new, I’ll take that into account with pricing.

Asking $375 shipped for all.

Gunsmithing 300 Norma Freebore Help?

Looking to get my own 300 Norma reamer and was wondering what freebore would you guys recommend andmhad good luck with for the Berger 245 Hybrids and 230 Hybrids??

I really want to run the 245s optimized to run through a CIP magazine. I have zero intention to run anything else other than these 2 bullets from Berger, much appreciated for your experience and thoughts!

It's 2025 now... what's the Hide's thoughts on the current state of coolers and cooler manufacturers?

@LeftyJason pointed out that this had been discussed a number of years ago with the thread: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/best-cooler.7016533/

Reckon that enough time has elapsed we can revisit the conversation with data/products relevant to 2025 now...

So what say you- who's the king of ice retaining performance, what companies are worth your hard earned money? Do you have a longterm review of any that fits in the conversation? If so- this thread is for you.

Let's hear it.

New Tikka Inbound and Another Question about Stocks

I have a Tikka T3x Lite LA inbound and I'm wondering about my stock options. On the one hand, I could replace the recoil pad with a Limbsaver and add a cheek riser of some sort, or I could ditch the factory stock altogether for a chassis. In the chassis market, I'm primarily interested in the KRG Bravo/Echo or the MDT Field or similar in the sub $500 range. My usage for this rifle will be for hunting deer and hogs at 400 yds or less, with the vast majority of shots falling at 300 and under.

Amongst the chassis, I'm leaning toward the KRG Echo.

What sayeth the Hide?
