Qualified Immunity in Texas

Gov. Abbott signed a law expanding qualified immunity to non-lethal weapons, such as stun guns and tear gas. And I would assume, bean bags, as well.

I know from plenty of the stories shown in this forum of cops exercising force against innocent people who were misidentified as a suspect. I think cops should be sued for negligent or incompetent behavior.

So, for me, this is a large fail for Gov Abbott.

What if they use the stun gun on an old man in a no-knock warrant at 5:00 am on an old man with a pacemaker? The man or his family should be able to sue and there should be legal consequences.

But often times, QI means immunity from lawsuits.

We get so tied up with immigration and constitutional carry and whatnot that we miss on something like this entirely and none of the congressmen and women seem to really be that worried about it.

98% of respondents say MI state police leadership is ineffective and incompetent

It’s hard to get folks to agree on anything - but 98-% of those that took the time to fill out this survey said Michigan state police leadership had to be replaced .
And this was all state troopers that responded- 98% have no confidence in the leadership.

Man the scandles at MI state police - there are 7 federal lawsuits just over pushing out white male officers with rigged tests .
There is another 5 law suits going on about retaliation against officers from on high for cooperating with internal affairs officers.
That’s just the cop on cop bull shit

There is currently 7 or 9 state troopers facing murder or manslaughter charges -
Ticket quota scandles galore
In a case that went to the Supreme Court- MI state police used “stingray technology to download all the data from every device during every traffic stop until stopped by the high court .
And there is the State trooper detective who may well be one of the states most active serial killers- facing 1st and second degree murder charges few counts of each as well as manslaughter charges.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Getting into wheel-guns: S&W 986 or 627 PC / V Comp?

I think I want to branch out from pistols and try some wheel-gunning. I have no prior experience with revolvers.

I first started looking at the S&W 986 because I want to stay with a full-size, I like the 5" barrel, and already shooting 9mm pistols, I have common ammo.

I then started looking at the 627 Performance Center 5" and 627 V Comp. 8 rounds, ability to shoot either 38 spl or 357 mag, there's a lot to like. I rented a V Comp and put 50 rounds of 148gr 38 spl training ammo through it. My impressions were that even though it's a large framed gun, the grip itself isn't overly large and it felt good in hand. I also liked how naturally a revolver points. Recoil was barely there. The biggest drawback was the weight and length of the DA pull, it seemed to take ages to break (but that may also be inexperience). Other than that, I enjoyed it.

As far as use-case, this would be a fun/range gun only, maybe I'll try some competitive shooting in the future.

With the 986, I can get the gun ($1000), cylinder honed and chamfered ($300) and an action job ($400) for the base price of a V Comp. The V Comp was pleasant to shoot, and honestly just looks cool as shit with the slab barrel, full lug and comp. But ammo is more expensive ($0.36 vs $0.25 CPC) and the entry fee is higher. Plus, I'm not sure how it would do transitioning targets with the extra weight out front. And after cylinder work and action job you're in 327 WR territory...

What other factors would you consider between a 986 or 627 PC, 627 V Comp? Any recommendations in either direction?

Gunsmith recommendations for drilling bolt catch roll pin hole?

Years back, I bought a stripped lower from Axelson Tactical and stuffed it in the safe. Recently I went to build the rifle and found the left side (as facing it) bolt catch roll pin hole wasn't drilled all the way through. It's too precise of a drilling for me to attempt, so I'm looking for recommendations on gunsmiths that would complete the hole for me. There aren't any local that can do it, so it looks like I'll need to ship it out. There is a small indentation there like it was marked or almost drilled and then just not completed, although the pin mark looks off center as well.

I've tried contacting Axelson through their site and it won't let me, showing it's in test mode. I'm not sure if they're even in business anymore. When I bought the lower, it was part of a combo package with some swag and an eventual book written by Matthew Axelson's brother that never came through. Every couple years I'd contact the company and inquire, with the last conversation going something like "yeah, that didn't happen...sorry".

Small engine carb cleaning question

I think I used some old gas that had a bit of water in it in my lawn mower. I've drained the remaining gas from the gas tank and removed the carb, drained and removed the bowl. I then cleaned it up with a rag and some compressed air. I'd prefer to not further disassemble the carb, but do want to make sure it's clean.

What would be the best bet from here to clean it out and make sure there's no bad gas or water left in it, aside from pull the float and jet?

Also...any suggestions of cleaning the tank? I thought I could perhaps flush it with rubbing alcohol, but not sure how much to use or how long it'd take to dry after draining (10 minutes?).

Engine is a Kohler XT650 fwiw.

I sure hope the driver is okay. I’m sure it was a very stressful situation.

M40 needed a Greenie

So I picked this rifle up a couple months back from a fellow hide member. I followed the build thread on here and had to have it once it was posted. So I grabbed it, took a week or so to get it, threw it in the safe next to the other members of my M40 family. All was right in the world..........................................so i thought. My anxiety wouldn't let me forget it would look much better with a Redfield Greenie on top. So after searching to the end of the internet for a source on a greenie I was empty handed. This is where it escalated quickly. I started researching anodizing, it didn't look too hard. I had to figure out how to get a priceless accurange Redfield apart. After tearing down a couple cheap ones from eBay I was ready to give it a shot...............................................Below is the result of an insane amount of research, destroying a couple scopes, fabricating some tools, mixing chemicals in my garage, 5 gallons of sulfuric acid (I have to be some kind of watchlist now from buying all these chemical), possibly some tears, lots of Bourbon, and somewhere around 100 gallons of distilled water............................oh and many weird looks from the wife when she saw me looking like Walter White cookin shit up in the garage. I finally got a decent greenie for the M40. I still think this is too bright green, may try adding some black to the dye and doing another one. Let me know ya'lls thoughts. pretty pumped that it turned out green at this point.

Leupold LCO and D-EVO on short rail riser - had them on a short-rail AUG. Great condition, quick brightness control on the LCO (knob) plus shake-awake. Dual view with the 6X D-EVO, CMR-W reticle. Less garish logos on this version - most D-EVO have the L-crosshair logo plastered across the entire top of the unit! No boxes. I have verified both serials with Leupold.
