Having Trouble PMing

Hey Guys!,

Long time lurker but fairly new here, as I usually frequent GAFS on Reddit and don't post much. But I am having issues PM someone that has something for sale in the classified. I cant find where to message at all as it just doesn't show up on my phone or my computer. Any help would be appreciated. I can't even seem to contact a moderator or anyone so not sure what to do. Thank you

RFI on Ham Radios

Perhaps I should just go ahead and tag @Gunfighter14e2 on this post from the get-go but I had a question about purchasing one's first Ham radio.

For a bit of housekeeping- I've mentioned it here before but I had gotten my technician ticket a number of years ago (it's still current) and haven't done anything with it. Truth be told (and I might have said this before) but I pursued getting my license as just an alternative from drinking beer and arguing with folks here in the Pit. Reckon I thought I'd be spending my time better learning something new.

Only problem is I never didn't anything with it once I got my license initially. I had read that the volunteer testers often times would allow someone to "test up" and see if they could pass the exam for the higher license (and dang rabbit I would have passed the 'General" exam with flying colors given the opportunity) but the event I found myself in only allowed testing for the Tech license.

Alright- moving on, I'm approaching the point where I'll need to (if nothing else) renew my license with the FCC (which they're now charging for as of recent). I don't want to necessary squander my previous attempts of acquiring knowledge but I'm also struggling with renewing my license if I haven't so much have touched a HAM radio in almost 10 years.

I'm as introverted as they come but I have had it in my head that I owed it to myself to at least give this hobby an honest shake and see where that takes me.

That said- I'm looking at two polar ends of the spectrum/price point. The models I'm looking at are both handheld & triband but their prices are vastly different...

The models I'm looking at are:

This Kenwood on the "high" end: https://www.kenwood.com/usa/com/amateur/th-d75a/

and the "lower end" being this particular Yaseu, the VX-6R: https://www.yaesu.com/jp/en/products/ama_handheld.html

On one hand- since I haven't done jack squat with my HAM ticket for over half a decade- part of me wants to just be dismissive and cut my losses. If I really felt contrary- I'd buy the Yaseu and run away with my asian princess.

But- that just doesn't seem to be how it works right?

Sidearms & Scatterguns Checking: any problems with the Sig P229?

Strongly considering buying an Sig P229 M11 A1 for carrying in a chest rig by Hill People Gear when out alone hunting. It would have a tiny Gemtech Aurora II can on it. It’s obviously for backup/last resort. I’ll probably never need it.

So, I ask the collective hive mind; is there anything I should be aware of or worried about re: 229? Just got bit in the ass with the CZ P-01 Omega “walking decocker” retard design flaw.

80C8AAD5-5AA5-484C-96F5-4F4555B5CCBF.jpeg

Picked this one because no extended beavertail so it’ll fit in the HPG chest rig.

I’m buying new, and prefer hammer fired DA/SA.

Precision shooting off a vehicle

Has anyone ever noticed any precision (or accuracy) issues when shooting prone off of a stationary vehicle? Such as prone out of the bed of a pick-up, or off a decent sized trailer? Does movement of the vehicle on the suspension come into play, or is there just too much weight for it to move in time to effect trajectory? I've used a platform on a trailer to get above weeds before, and everything seemed solid enough. I got a first round hit at 950 so I guess I can't say it caused any problems. But I've never tried to shoot groups off it for load development either.

Anyone ever see any issues?

Description from the web:

AR Positional POI Shift Test

Edit **I’ve had a few people ask. Here is the link to my test target if anyone is wanting to use it. https://veracitysolutionsllc.com/resources/ **

Finally got a chance to get out and test a few different uppers for POI shift and get pictures.

These are NOT to bash any company but to make aware an issue that could be affecting your shots when changing positions or bipod locations. The point is to test and know if your shift is consistent and repeatable and then accounting for it if the style of shooting and targets you engage warrant it. I have used several methods depending on what I am using the rifle for to work through this. *I understand this isn't super scientific and the data is limited, feel free to test for yourself. More rigid receivers, semi-monolithic and monolithic receivers help mitigate this issue.

1. Zero normally from bipod, and add the shift to my data when in other positions that would have a shift. (Ex. .3 MIL shift, Normal data when using bipod, add .3 MIL to positional data)
2. Zero inbetween the shift as the targets may be tall enough it is in the noise. (Ex. .3 MIL shift, zero from bipod .15'ish high and bagged position is .15ish low)

These were shot from a bench modified prone as neutral as possible to do my best of not affecting results from inconsistent pressure. The bagged shots were taken from kneeling using the same bench.

Harris BRM-S 6-9 Bipod was placed at 12.5” from the front edge of the magazine well, then at 3.5” away, then fired kneeling from an Armageddon Gamechanger shmedium w/ heavy fill. This was done to keep things consistent across each upper.

Uppers:
Semi-monolithic:
Ridgeline Defense RD-15 LPR 16” Proof Research (KGM R30) (Thermal fit and bedded)
Mega MML 18” Noveske Barrel (no suppressor) (Unsure of assembly)

Aero Solus stock barrel change is absolute war

I got my tools ready.

1. Aero Solus action wrench

2. Barrel vise

3. 7/8th socket

4. Very large Torque Wrench with breaker bar

I'm honestly to tired to make this a long thread, but holy hell what does Aero do to their stock barrels? Do they weld them in?

- I tried it normal. The barrel slipped and ruined my finish
- I tried wrapping painters tape around the barrel. The barrel rotated and ripped up the tape and now the barrel needs goo gone.
- I tried heat, lots of heat. Eventually I burned my finger but the barrel still slipped in the vise.
- I tried wrapping the barrel in sand paper. I went out and got actual fucking sand to put between the barrel and the barrel vise.

Thankfully there is a machine shop downstairs from my friends shop. Now it was their turn.

- They tried a barrel vise block in a massive vise. It still slipped.
- They tried putting the vise block 90 degrees (vertical) in the largest vise i've ever seen with a 26'' breaker bar. It still slipped.

Enter the machine shop guys wife

Question: How much do you care about the stock barrel? Answer: I'd like it to shoot, but it already looks like hell I can't sell it.

- She takes it over to a belt sander, and I shit you not, sands two flat spots in the barrel.
- The barrel goes back in the giant vise block, this time raw, at 90 degrees, with the 26'' breaker bar.

IT FINALLY FUCKING GIVES WAY!!!!!

PXL_20250515_235304207.jpg

In the end the stock barrel looked like this.

Putting the new barrel in was shockingly easy. Swab some antiseize, put barrel in barrel vise, hand tighten action, use action wrench + torque wrench set at 75 ft/lbs, add chassis and optic and poof!

PXL_20250515_181525379.MP.jpg Shadow.jpg

But my dark lady looked ready for the range tomorrow.

24'' Bartlien barrel + muzzle break.

If anyone asks you to help them change your aero solus barrel, and it came from the factory as a barreled action? Laugh at them.

My MCX got a few changes after I got the updated carriage assembly.

Swapped the T-2 Micro out for the Strike Eagle in a Spuhr mount.

Accessories Spikes Compressor Barrel, Rare

These were not offered as a standalone part by Spikes, they only came on the Compressor uppers. It is like new, 5.56 and 8.1". Includes the gas block and the option for the Q Cherry bomb.

The barrel is made by FN and are cold hammer forged.

These had 3 lug pins at the receiver end (no idea what that actually did), but to fit into any upper other than the Compressor 2 pins had to be removed. Fits perfectly in any upper, just like any standard barrel.

$425 for the barrel
+$60 if you want the Q cherry bomb too (not for sale alone, I will keep it if the barrel buyer doesn't want it)

These don't come up often.

Precision Rifle Gear Can you use a Badger Ordnance Diving Board w/ Leupold MK4 rings?

Hey y'all, I was doing some poking around and looking at changing my Leupold MK4 30mm rings for NF Xtreme duty 30mm rings or magmount in order to add a diving board for use with a Tango Fire4000. However, I've been looking around and it seems that the Leupold and Badger rings are close enough in design that it may work to attach the Badger Ordnance Diving Board to the MK4 rings without having to disassemble anything more than the front top ring cap.

Is there anyone out there who has the ability to tell me if the Leupold and Badger mounts I'm looking at are cross compatible?

I'm sure someone has asked this before but I can't find anyone saying they won't.

Thanks in advance for all your help folks.

SOLD SOLD

Selling as a complete setup, fatboy inverted elevate 3 section tripod, invert 60 ballhead and sidechick.

Lightly used at the firing range to practice tripod shooting with. Only taken to range twice. Otherwise used in my backyard a handful of times to clip in binoculars. In very good condition (not excellent) there is slight wear marks in the anodizing where the arca clamp clips in (this happens just clipping in a few times), tiny surface marks in the anodizing pictured. Carbon legs and locks are flawless as far as I can see. If I weren’t so picky about gear I bet I would have missed a lot of these and most casual users probably won’t even notice them. The Ballhead handle you can see a bigger one but it’s also easy to miss. I disclose everything. The original case and tripod box is included (ballhead and sidechick box are gone)! I haven’t used this in 10 months. Bought from scheels.

Brand new this setup is $1065 before taxes!

Asking $875 shipped and insured (box is huge)

NO trades!
