OK stupid simple question.... search function doesn't really address my inquiry.

My first precision budget build almost complete... Remington SPS Tac in .223, SS 10x42mm, TPS 0 MOA base and TSR rings, Harris 6-9 bipod. I have a B&C Medalist / Tactical stock on order. Intended use is training, paper punching and steel ringing at my local range out to 200yards on the bench, some coyote hunting later this summer out to 400-500.

What stock rest bag do you guys recommend? There are so many and I would like to get a consensus of the most adaptable, simple and affordable one to get.

I have a bipod just wondering if having a support bag under the stock was really useful... I had been considering the Triad http://www.triadtactical.com/Triad-Tapered-Rear-Bag.html tapered rear bag.

You're showing a rear bag to help stabilize a stock. He is asking about a large benchrest bag to place the rifle ON to stabilize it.

Apples and oranges.

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

I use bench rest bags when developing loads. I use a combination of caldwell low rear bag with caldwell adjustable front rest (the cheap one) and some cheap sand bags to rest my arm and raise either front or rear if i don't have enough adjustment. It's a ghetto setup but it works and only cost me about $60.

Even with a good freefloat, bipods do change the way in which your gun recoils and can degrade accuracy. A true sled rest is the only way to take equipment out of the equation when testing new loads. This type of accuracy is beyond my skill level but i just wanted to share the knowledge. Find the shooter at your range with the 35 lb. bench gun if you want to know the true definition of accuracy.

No I'm asking about a rear bag to stabilize a stock, is it useful? Already stated that I had a bipod.

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

The triad bag will work just fine. I use a similar bag I made myself. Or you can go with one of the bench specific bags with the bunny ears. Just depends on what you want. I don't shoot from a bench anymore so I went with a bean bag set up.

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

You may need more than one. The cheap range I go to has several small sand bags at each bench. I use one under the handguard so it doesn't get damaged by the metal cradle. I've got to stack about 3-4 bags under the buttstock and can dig in at different angles to stabalize. This works great, it's free, and it's nearly as stable as a leadsled.....as in it shows MY inconsistancies.....

For future reference so we're all on the same page with nomenclature, a "rear bag" is a rear bag. A "stock rest bag" is a bag you rest your stock, or specifically your fore stock upon.

So now that is straightened out the Triad bag is a great choice.

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

I'm with Mike here.
Triad has several types of rear bags that work under the stock's butt.
I like the large pillow and the large wedge.

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

Thanks Steve for the link... it led to others that gave me the info I needed in choosing a appropriate one to start. Ordering a Triad Tapered Rear Bag (Big wedgie) in multi-cam this week.

Any chance you have an active promotion / coupon code?

Re: Recommend a benchrest stock bag.

I used a TAB rear bag this weekend to shoot 1000yds. and it worked very well.

Go ahead and do that and let it get soaked in a rain storm, wait a week or so, and let us know how that goes.
