Vudoo V-22S Single Shot BR/F-Class Action

Thank you! Mine likes Ctr-X 1,066-1,069 and SK Std+. It shoots consistent 250's (or 2,500's depending how you score). It's been difficult to accumulate X's though due to the terrific wind gusts we've been having here in the Chicago area-30 to 50 mph! I just switched optics. Went from a Sightron III 45X45 to a Vortex Golden Eagle. Haven't decided which one I like best. I'll have it down by next spring (I hope).

250s and 2500s consistently? On what target?

I am using a Sightron SIII 8-32 dot, planning on going to 10-50 dot. this is the best time of the year here in Florida lite winds, sunny days in the mid 70's to mid 80's with low humidity.

Hey Guys, if you've not noticed, I've been away for a while. All is good, just incredibly busy on a few things and needed some much required breathing room to focus appropriately. Having said this, things are still moving along in various ways that continue to support this community in a big way. One of which are the things Ivan Wells and Jamie Burgess have been up to at Ivanhoe Shooting Equipment and Burgess Benchrest Rifle Stocks. Here's a short video that gives a bit of insight to how the V-22S is contributing to the Benchrest discipline.

Mike, love the look of these rifles, but the real deal is how do they shoot? Any targets, or other data you can show us to give us more insight into how they shoot?

Thx,

RFS99

I have a V22s on order due date 2/18/22. Mike you think you might be able to get your guys to work some 12 hr shifts and a few weekends. 😂 can’t wait to get mine Home

I'M JEALOUS!!
Shot today. 45* with an 11mph wind. Only managed a 249-11X but the Golden Eagle is GREAT! Used it on 50X. Makes it a lot easier on these 72 year old eyes! Don't know whether to sell the Sightron or put it on my Savage.....

Dam that's good shoot'n for that kind of day. I hope I can shoot that good when I grow up. I would keep the Sightron and put it on your next Vudoo! What's the model of the Savage.

It's a MKII BVTSS left hand. Doesn't shoot too bad. The good thing is that it eats anything you throw at it! A fun plinker for sure!

Mike, can you PM me a phone number for Ivan's shop? I would like to talk with him about the rifles in the video.

Thanks!

So what have been your thoughts so far? Sightron vs Vortex.

I believe the Vortex is a bit "brighter" and more clear at power. I was shooting 50 yds at 50 power on a VERY windy day (gusts up to 35mph). Score was 249-11X but the misses were so close I had to plug 'em to make sure I missed the dot. The ammo I used was Ctr-X-speed: 1,066. The one "9" I got was my fault. I'm sure everyone has had those. I'm going to shoot 50yds indoors next week. I've never shot rifle indoors before. I found a range close to me (Crystal Lake IL) that can accommodate my rig. I think that'll be the final test. Right now, I'm leaning toward the Golden Eagle. I don't know if I'll sell the Sightron (if the decision is the Vortex) or put it on my Savage......we'll see.

I could not put a comment on these 2 photos

here is the 087 mounted on the stock unprepared externally, the beeding and tightening are done the photo shows a tuner but in reality this barrel does not need it.
we tested it on a shooting table and the result is very favorable with Midas + but one batch in particular because I tested another (reputedly very good on another shilen) the result was less good, same observation with Tenex
What to say, a defect of percussion, it did not eject the not percussed cartridge, the ejection is soft.
But it was only a test for the barrel this shooting session

I don't have any experience with a Vortex, My Vudoo shoots great with Ctr-x. what are the first 2 numbers in your lot number as an example it could be 25 or 27? My Vudoo likes 27-31. I only shoot unlimited with my Vudoo. I shoot factory class with another gun I just bought.

What does the groups look like with the tuner? I tried Tenex and Eley match and the shilen barrel did not like either, plus they either FTF or FTE. I probably could remedy it by changing springs but I had supper groups with CT-X, as they say if it not broke don't fix it.

To be fair, if you aren't shooting all 2500's on a normal basis with an unlimited gun on a factory target, you need to sell it.
Well Hozzie, I guess I'll be selling my gun cuz I DON'T shoot 2500's all the time. If you do, Congratulations! You are a fine shooter. I however, shoot for fun and the enjoyment I get out of it. I'm sorry I guess I'm not as serious as a lot of you guys. Besides, in my case I don't think it's the gun's fault!

First off, let me say I don't compete except at my local club and against myself. I shoot for the fun of it, that's all. Personally, I strive to be the best I can be just like we all do. My gun shoots 24's on windy days and either 25's or 26's when the wind is 5mph or below. The wind is usually 10-15 mph this time of year in the Western suburbs of Chicago

I have accidentally shot the UL target with my factory rifle on several occasions (I buy the double sided targets) but I have never shot my UL rifle on the factory target. Maybe I should do that to make me feel better. At my age I need all the help I can get.

The way I figure it, a DOT is a DOT, no? I really don't care about the 10 ring. I'm more interested in the DOT.

You and me both!

I called the other day to add bore guide and asked about my 1/14/22 delivery date. I was told no because I ordered Shilen barrel. When I ordered 8/13 I was told that Shilen was shipping. Any thoughts on Benchmark barrel for V22s. Disappointed !!!

I do the same, thanks for your lot numbers. the competition is tough at my club we have grown from 6-8 to now over 26 shooters. starting January we are splitting the two monthly matches into unlimited on the 1st weds and factory class on the 3rd weds. The problem many of the shooters were shooting both.

I am always surprised to read that you use the Center x with the shilen, on the shilen of my V3 turbo I never had success with this ammunition and therefore I did not shoot center x with the V22S SHILEN
On the other hand I noticed that the .900 of the V22S must be heated with at least 10 cartridges before going up to the point and that if one draws from the eley it is necessary to clean the barrel after 1 card if not DISPERSION of the grouping: grease certainly

I had the same experience, however I hung in there and waited on the Shilen barrel. I have not been disappointed. the shilen is used by many top shooters and winning. If you look back at the history the shilen design is proven to be a killer. I have only had my shilen for a few short months and have won 3 shoot'n matches, one was the biggy, the club championship match. Stick with it you will not be sorry. Besides your going have this gun for a long time and if it's a shooter think how happy long term you'll be! by the way that match had 24 or 25 shooters in it, 3 or 4 turbos, 2 new Stillers.

I agree on 7 to 10 rounds to heat. I have a 22" ACE barrel which is also .900. I've started to run a patch of RONSONOL (lighter fluid) through at the beginning of the day. Just one patch and the barrel seems to "come in" using 2 or 3 rounds less. I don't know, maybe it's just me....

I was told that there having a hard time getting shilen barrels and had a back log for the V22S with the shilen and lead time was averaging 8-10 months for delivery

I would wait on the Shilen, it will be worth the wait. My V22s with Shilen barrel was shipped/delivered around 90 days past the original shipping date. I was offered 2 or 3 different brands of barrels to speed up/complete my build but I waited it out. Very pleased that I did wait.

Yes, that's correct I'm using speed numbers of 27 to 31 and this barrel is very accurate at 50 and 100yds. I had Vudoo slug the barrel while I was waiting, I purchased small lots of Eley, RW50, Lapua and some others so far I have run most of it through and it likes CT-X 31 speed the best but will shoot the slower stuff. The CT-X has been good in the wind with the Ct-X, I like that because it hits where I hold it and if I get it right its dead on. Why are you switching to a Vudoo from Turbo? Keith

fredfish, What a coincidence. I ordered my V22S with a Shilen barrel, (and Flavio Fare trigger) on 8-14-21, with a delivery date of 1-13-22. I will hold on for a Shilen barrel, as not much outdoor BR shooting is done in January in Colorado.

I read somewhere that cold fliers were caused by lack of lube on a clean barrel. Since I clean after every shooting session I put a couple drops of oil on my last patch and it makes a difference. YRMV

I wipe after every outing, 2 wet patches 2 dry, at a match I do the same between cards. When I start, I put 5-7 rounds on the board, but not on the target. I have about 300 rounds from my last everything out cleaning, I had a bad experience with warm up rounds and the Flavio Fare trigger. Bump it and it goes off ready or not, cost me 100 points!
Here in Florida out temps are 70's to 90's in the summer with high levels humidity, winter 60's to 80's What are your temps? How through do you clean after the 1st card in a match using Eley ammo?

Hello Keith
That's a good question you ask, why the Vudoo and the turbo V3?
1- to have a second rifle in case of problem and waiting for parts (I am in France and to have the spare I lose a year of competition)
2- Identical barrels but different percussion system
3- Mike promises a proper architecture for the BR why not be part of this new wave?
4- Already an accurate and extremely fast start able to respond to the wind reading and therefore to shoot at the right time for v22S.
5- The barrel of 0.850 of the V3 is flexible it responds perfectly to the wind with the M+ ammunition, I can't wait to feel what the 0.900 of the V22S can give, it's the challenge to come, it gives a good result from the start and well we'll play both......

What I found, since you talk about speed I make my best scores in the wind with speeds rather slow 324.326/ms max. the M+ is terrible for that.

I use Bore Tech , Rimfire Blend for general wipes between cards and after shooting it I use 2-3 wet patches and 2 dry patches. For a get everything out cleaning I use Bore Tech Carbon Blend with several strokes with a nylon brush and finish with a final couple wipes of Rimfire Blend and couple dry patches. These 2 cleaners make quick and easy work of cleaning a 22 barrel. They are simply the best I have found. I wasn't sure at first but after using and checking with a bore scope I was sold on them. I think by just wiping with 2 wet patches after shooting, you leave a carbon ring that helps maintain that accuracy window you're looking for in the barrel. That's my 2 cents.

So how are they putting these .900 barrels on the giant tenon of the v22s? Is the first few inches 1.20?

Finally got some decent weather in SWPa. 40 degrees, 1-3 mph winds. Doing some final adjustments on the Harrell's. It was doing well with eley black box (more consistent that CX or M+ I am quickly learning) at a setting of 425. Tried a quick 6*5 at 100yds (first ever attempt with this rifle) which averaged .558" and a 5*5 of .523".
20211217_203425.jpg

Then I tried to fine tune the Harrell's a bit more.(yes already went through the Hopewell method). I happened to find this sweet spot at 430. Ran out of ammo and only got off 2 groups

Anxious to see what spring brings. We have a local 100 shoot every other month in the summer. 2 targets , 10 rds each. X is 1" . 200-17x was my highest...so far

That's almost exactly my routine! I don't go after the carbon but once a week although I guess it would depend how many rounds you send. I have a shooting buddy that takes a mop soaked 1/2 way with C4, inserts it about an inch in and leaves it there until he uses it again. Works for him!

I guess I'm waiting not much shooting in Mass. either. Out Mon. + Fri. with 2 different CZ457- Lilja +Bartlien.

I use HOPPE's 9 in all my rimfire rifles, it is very efficient for Lead, tombac, copper, carbon etc... No need to use extra products like C4, RFB......
We can find easily this american product in France. Also, i use Brake Free CLP (Clean Lubricate Protect) lightly on a last patch for barrel conditioning.

The Muller is also one of the top performers in the major shoots, as is with any of the barrel mfg they all are top performers on any given match. The shooter, the wind they help level the playing field.
I ordered one vudoo with a shilen .900 selected match, and a turbo v3 with a muller 4mi. The 4MI muller is 28", while the shilen is 24".
From i understood, the muller barrel is very difficult to get, as the production is limited from a one man worker.
Both rifles are coming soon, no later the early January !!
Tests and setup will be posted here in this forum, like Riberac is doing.
Impatient !!

Yesterday was rifle cleaning day and the first I have had the Vudoo bolt apart to clean it. I also needed to clean the tuner which I hate doing because it never seems to want to come clean. I tried something new, I used my parts (jewelry cleaner) I have used for cleaning my brass in my center fire with a solution of water and Citranox. I put the weights in pint jars with a view oz of cleaner and water, vibrated them for about 12 minutes. I washed them with water to get the cleaner off, air dried them with compressed air, finally I used a hair drier to get any remaining moisture out just in case. It worked great the weights came out cleaner than I have ever gotten them in the past scrubbing them with all kinds of methods. Next I took the bolt from the Vudoo and repeated the process with the parts from the bolt, keeping the bolt handle out of the solution. Sucess, again clean inside and out, lubed and back together. The bolt defiantly needed cleaning. It would be interesting to hear from you guys how you clean your tuners?

Just got the word that the single shot i ordered over nine months ago is ready. Things have changed as health issues with my wife has seriously curtailed my shooting so I’m on the fence about accepting it but it is a dream. Left hand bolt right side ejection, McMillian stock, jewel trigger and Kales scope . I was told the test group at 100 yds with center X was .137. How does that compare with others guns Merry Christmas to all
