Hey guys,

First time poster here, looks like a great forum with lots of knowledge! Hopefully I can bring something to the forum.

Just new to reloading and had a question regarding load charts.

Is it acceptable to substitute different manufacturers of bullets for others? As in I have 110 Vmax projectiles can I sub In another ( like a 110 smk) to get my charge amount?

Also if this is possible I would imagine that the searing depth is quite an important consideration and would affect the pressure in the case at the point of ignition, so is it then a case of just making an allowance based on the projectile dimensions of what I’m substituting for?

I’ve measured where the lands are, I’ve also measured via a comparator the headspace from a fire formed shell.

The issue for is that I don’t have a starting point for my powder because theres no data for the projectile and powder that I’m using. Hence the reason why I’m asking about the substitution of projectiles.

Yeah, that’s fine. Substituting is about all we can do, the variance in bearing surface- and thus variance in pressure -is accounted for in the minimum starting places.

And honestly you could probably start a tad up from minimum but it’s only a few rounds for piece of mind.

Edit: since you’re new read up in the ocw, starting low helps establish you pattern to identify the optimal charge weight. Again, might not need it but more data is better than less data. http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/ocw-instructions/4529817134
