Any truck drivers in this joint? If so, what are you driving and what are you hauling? I drive a concrete mixer by day. Generally I just run the batch plant, but pretty frequently have to take a load of concrete to a job. My go to is a 90 KW with 10.5 yard drum and a cat 3406b and 7 speed Eaton. Let’s convoy, gents

I haul new campers to dealers all over the country.. 01 Kenworth T800. Detroit 12.7 525hp, 13spd, Just walked in the door from starting to take the exhaust manifold (leaking) off it... thunderstorm came in. Work 1 week and then take 2 off usually. Friends do it also, bring our bikes, I try to make every trip into some kind of vacation. Lots of cool stuff and cool places out there. Heading back home i usually find cars and trucks, anything heading my direction..

Im running an 18' tacoma with 31 inchers. Shes not the toughest dog in the shed, but she'll haul at least 60-70 2x4s without hesitation. Its an extended cab, so I can shack up with the lot lizards if needed. I can also tow over 100,000 ounces with her.

I don’t drive them except for test drives. I am a diesel mechanic, I have over 16 years at a Cat dealer working in the truck shop and another 7 or so working on powertrains in Yachts. This is a 7CZ C-16 (600hp 2150 lbft Cat) I built years ago. So I have been around them for some time…

I've owned and drove well over 100 of them mostly 379 Pete's with Cats, the exception being when I had an oilfield service company for 12 years and was running 30-50 of my own trucks and hiring another 10-30 pretty regularly. At that time I bought about anything that was a good deal .

Spent a lot of time in this 99 kw with an E model cat

3rd pic is one row of my gear at the iron planet sale in 2020

Just stay out of the left lane you fuckers.
And from the other side, when you see me coming, don't pull out in front of me and make me pass your slow ass.
90% of the time I'm running faster than you are and if you'd wait a few seconds id go by and you'd never see me again.
I assume you're talking interstates though and I only have two lane highways out here and with hills and curves and traffic, it can take a long time to find a safe place to get around your little four wheeler.

Looks like an old A model or early B with the intercooler.
The 7FB is an intercooler engine. Definitely not an A model based on the injection pump sitting on the floor. I really loved building the pumps & timing advance and then dialing in the FLS / FTS and dynamic timing to perfection, they run so good after that.

I have the best trucks on the world. All of them are just a phone call away. And just like my women after payment they leave.

Never owned an A model but I've owned several B models and must admit I've never heard them referred to in the "7fb" number / letter code before, always a B model after a quick Google I see a 7fb is a B model.

If you can rebuild and more importantly properly tune a B model pump and timing you've got some serious knowledge that is getting harder to come by every day, last cat house I was at with a B model took 3 tries to get the pump tuned acceptably.

Couple of winch trucks from when I had the service company.
The T800 was ISX powered, the W9 was an E model cat

The 7FB is a serial number prefix, it was the most common B model. Like the 4CK, 3ZJ, 8PN, etc… The main differences between the B models and C models were the wider rod bearings of the C for better durability, ATAC as opposed to Jacket Water, and some timing advance and injection pump changes. There were also some other changes, I think the nozzles went to a higher VOP.

I have done hundreds of injection pump, governor, timing advance rebuilds and set them up statically and then graphed the timing advance curve adjusting the start and stop and total advance to a half of a degree. I normally go 10% or slightly more on the fuel settings and put the advance right at the top of Caterpillars spec for the specific engine serial number and performance spec number. That way you will get the most power out of the engine but not have to worry about melting / cracking a piston as long as the driver isn’t and idiot and keeps an eye on his EGT.

I left my Cat dealer almost 8 years ago to go work on Yachts and make some more money and work for a close friend. My kids graduated high school last spring so we sold our house and are building in a different state, so to make that happen I left the boat yard (working much less) and went back to the Cat dealer while the house is being built. I have been blown away by the lack of knowledge of the old product at the dealer! It seems like you are correct, no one knows how to work on mechanical fuel systems anymore. Crazy stuff!

Apparently, all the governors have been removed here in FL.
There are plenty of trucks running 90+ on I-75.
It's usually the cement trucks and the LTL ones that run 70-ish.

Here they like to see who can pass each other uphill, while they both do 65 for miles on end. As soon as one starts to pull ahead they'll hit a hill and the other one will pull on him.

Of course, a vast majority are just wheel holders who can't even speak English. Odd how the dot will crucify you over 100 lbs, but won't enforce the "speak, read, and write English" law.

The new breed can't work on it if they can't plug in a laptop. I had more than a few Cs over the years too. They were nice also.

Kieth at Tony's Diesel in Sioux Falls SD is hands down the best in this country at tuning the old mechanicals.
There was a guy out in Ripon CA that was a very close second to Kieth but I can't remember his name. Too many years ago now.

We'd usually come out of CA east on 80 and there were usually at least 6 of us that loaded together in the valley and once you started up Donner it was immediately apparent who'd been to the shop LOL

The blue kw winch truck has a B model, still use it frequently

Few more, 100k# compressor on the tail roll of the white KW, moved it across location and set on a pad. Front tires didn't touch the ground enough to steer so I backed it to the spot.

Reading these comments from LHTs, it's a whole different world with it's own code talk about big rigs.

Takes a certain type of individual to drive one of those monsters loaded into a big city, especially at night. I bet the L.A. Freeway is real fun.
