WTF is up with this Apple iOS 7 update?

If you haven't updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 7 yet — DON'T!

This is, without a doubt, the BIGGEST fail by Apple to date. If Steve Jobs knew what the stupid fools at Apple were doing since his passing, he would be rolling over in his grave!

I feel as if my phone was designed by Fisher Price, from the way they've screwed everything up. I've never been an Apple fanatic and only have their iPhone and iPad because they're so user friendly.

After this ridiculous change-up, I will be ditching the iPhone and my contract is up this month. They REALLY screwed the pooch with this shit. Who the fuck came up with the idea to change from having nice, sharp, detailed icons and interfaces to something that looks like a damned coloring book? What a crock of bullshit...and I'm ready to get rid of both the iPad and iPhone.

I uploaded it and now my camera is messed up.. when you turn the camera on the screen is black if you snap a shot the picture is clear and fin but you just cant see what your shooting.

I'm a dinosaur - still on OS 5.

Didn't like some of the changes in OS 6.

Thanks for warning!

They are starting to turn into what microsoft used to do: releasing stuff that doesn't work right, and selling cheaper lines of equipment (i.e., iPhone 5c) simply to meet a price point. This will slowly erode the elitism aspect of what owning an Apple product used to impart. Say what you will about how apple products are overpriced, lower functioning, status symbols; you can't deny that their stuff used to just work. Out of box, turn it on and go was the selling point to me in the past. How long the current regime can ride on the reputation that Jobs built is the only question remaining.

At least windows 8 has been fine so far. I'll be going for a windows phone (Nokia lumia) when I finally enter the smartphone age.

updated yesterday, and so far everything works correctly, although safari is pretty different than it used to be, not sure about that part, but the date is very thin, where it used to be bold, everything looks very white, and the boldness is gone, not sure what they were shooting for

I mean, really...whose idea was it to change from nice, sharp, detailed interfaces and icons to something that looks like a coloring book and then call it an "upgrade"? What a load of bullshit! I'm ready to get rid if every iOS device I have.

This is like playing an XBOX 360 and someone taking it away from you, replacing it with an Atari system and Pong and telling you it's an "upgrade". How pathetic can Apple get? Bad question because they've proven with this crap, setting the bar really high, that they can get pretty pathetic.

I'd say this shit is the equivalent to Microsoft Vista.

Cant agree more with the update. All of us at the station did the upgrades last night during some down time. It looks like Hello Kitty, the Easter Bunny and Wow Wow Wubzy had a threesome and hatched all the icons on my iPhone. Maybe Stevie Wonder had a hand in the design also. I mean WTF it looks like crap. Ill be moving back to the old OS if possible.

Yeah, I am a huge fan of Apple products, always have been because as someone else mentioned they used to just work and work perfectly. They had a class of products like nobody else could even come close to, but now I am not so sure. A friend of mine showed me the update video the other day at work and I could tell from the video that I would not like it. I was like its hideous, rainbow bright looking, and seems to me like they made some things more difficult like having opaque numbers to see to dial numbers with changed to some almost transparent crap that is going to be much harder to see going down the road. And most of the things that seemed like they may somewhat be cool does not work on the older phones. So, unless you have the most recent version its crap, not worth the download. I am so glad I did not update anything. I will take the old iOS over this new crap any day of the week.

Thanks for the info. I just got the prompt on my phone to update to 7. I thought I'd hold off and research first. Glad I saw this thread. Hope there's a way for you guys to backtrack.

WTF? I am still using my same dumb phone from 2006 (now THAT'S a dinosaur). No, I'm not kidding. Tomorrow my wife and I were going to get our first smart phones -- the iPhone 5s 64gb and now you tell me this. And I'm already prejudiced against Apple.

I don't like it either, but I'm half cave man, so don't know anything about it. Can you go back to IOS 6?

Once you get past the hellp kitty orgy graphics, I actaully like the new features. It is more user friendly and mine has run great. It does eat up available space but overall I really enjoy it.

I tried to download the update when it came out the other day and it said that I couldn't because I didn't have 2.9gb of free memory space. Glad it didn't work after reading these comments. With just the memory that it eats, no way does the download make sense on a 16gb phone unless you don't have any music or pics stored on it.

The update works fine but it has some things enabled by default that should be disabled.

Background app refresh - disable it. This is the cause for the battery life depletion.

Enhanced contrast, SHOULD be enabled, IMHO, it sharpens the lines on things.

All in all it's positive, has a few more things and fixes over IOS 6. Just takes a bit of tweeking.

I like some of the functionality features in 7 but the appearance is indeed hideous. I like the comparison of its Apples version of Windows Vista. That is pretty spot on. My work phone had to be updated but my personal is staying on 6 until they pull their head out.

I have been a big Apple fan for years. I just ordered a Droid Maxx. I am sick of Apple not listening to its customers. I waited for this new model to come out hopping they would put a bigger screen on it. Once again no dice there. Luckily I didn't upgrade to the IOS 7 on my phone yet. I won't do it while waiting for my new phone to get here.

I don't know that I could ever deal with looks of it. Im holding off until Im forced to do it. Then Ill bitch about it for awhile and get over it I guess.

Really... Wow, gee, a FREE update that basically upgrades your phone and gives you significantly more workspace and options and Apple needs to pull their head out...? Get a grip.

The upgrade is really not an upgrade. All they did was change the appearance of the icons and all the apple installed apps (which look horrible to me and a downgrade in my book) and added a few little tweaks that app makers have been doing for years now. Nothing new really, just took a few of the better things that apps did and incorporated it into their on system. Not ground breaking in my book. I appreciate the effort by Apple but this is a giant fail as KillShot notes in his OP.

Major OS releases are always suspect in my view, regardless of who puts them out or which platform they are made for. With the exception of security updates, I'll let other people live on the bleeding edge.

And for the love of Pete people, run a back up BEFORE you upgrade.

Working great for me so far. Not a big fan of the new icons or Color scheme, but whatever, I'm probably an old man by Apple standards. iRadio is a big win, much better than Pandora. I watched a couple videos on functionality to help get me going, but it's pretty intuitive.

I don't have any complaints here. I think it is wonderful that I don't have to unlock my screen to get my calendar, calculator, return a missed call, turn on the flashlight turn on and off Bluetooth/wifi whenever. There are some things I missed on the iOS 6 but really the nice new interfaces for group messaging to include face shots with people's texts, the ability to add pictures to an email without having to go to the album and do one picture at a time, etc. I thought overall productivity with security have increased significantly. But that is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

My Outlook will no longer sync with my phone. Fuck Tim Cook. I hope he gets mauled by a pack of pit bulls and the only thing they go after is his nut sack.

Dumped iphone for Galaxy S4...very happy sofar. Bigger porn, bluetooth kestrel works, and my smugness has decreased to tolerable levels.

Wow, looks as if some peoples life revolve around their "phone".
Guess I am old school, how did folks survive without music, maps, games etc on demand?

Seriously, Who runs apple devices...? You guys want Freedom, and yet you buy apple products...? LMAO Quite a contradiction there.

How do you reverse it? My kid upgraded the wifes phone and she wants it off, thankfully they didn't touch mine

I must be in the minority because I think this is the best update in a long time. The app pictures do look more flat but other than that, I think all of the changes work well and are much more useful. Without trying to name all the changes I agree with, I'll just say I haven't found anything that I would call a detractor. There was some talk of decreased battery life but I believed it was tied to having most of the apps with location services enabled. When those apps had location services turned off, batt life was back to normal. I'm running an iPhone 4S and haven't noticed any battery problems.

Apple user for over 20 years. I watched the news when Jobs left and Apple plummeted. Apple knew they fucked up when he left so they begged for forgiveness, brought him back and they blew up. I assume he left them a road map for the next 5 years and they couldn't even keep with that. Unfortunately there's no coming back this time. Apple dies when Jobs did, at least for me. RIP

In the meantime keep an eye out for Google.

+1

I am with Ronbo on this. I have been on the new release for several days and quite frankly think its a solid release worth looking at for those who have not yet done so. No issues with the upgrade and mine synchs well with Outlook. In addition the control center, notification center, calendar and time stamps for texts are for me solid improvements.

Does anyone know how to turn off the running programs? I just would hit the bottom button twice and turn them off, but that does not work now

On the ipad, do a upward swipe with all your fingers. It reduces all the open programs in a row that you can swipe left/right through. To close an app simply put your finger on the app you want to close and swipe/drag it to the top of the screen

I actually think the update is ok. But I do enjoy your guys' comparisons to hello kitty and fisher price. Made me laugh.

Uhhhhh...reminds me of the server change here. Seems that we have all adapted and it works better.

The colors and icons are just sooooo Southpark.

My problem with getting used to it is that I am no longer 13 years old.

Do I want to 'trash' an e- mail? No: I don't want to trash anyone.

I've been using ios 7 since beta 1 and it's a great platform, with tons of great features.

Every time someone gets something different they scream and cry that it sucks, because... it's different.

My issue as well. Besides, ive also heard it a big battery drainer. Giving serious consideration to the new Galaxy by Samsung. Im not too eager to learn a whole new OS though.

Interesting that all other phone creators caved to NSA except apple, your iMessage is secure because they refused to hand over the encryption keys.
Your facetime is secure.

Can't say that about any other carrier or any other phone.

The update dropped the ball and I would not be suprised if a service pack or new update comes out but with the tweaks IOS7 works just fine and it's been reliable 7 days running.

:) No disrespect intended, just a lil something I read when I investigated which companies caved.

I think it functions better, but looks bad... My battery is actually lasting longer.

I like the features of OS7 but the look is shit... I liked the way it was presented before, but feature wise it is an improvement.
