Having questionable optics or build issues, advice needed

Hey everyone, this is my very first post here and I’ve debated asking for help because I’m probably going to come across as an idiot. I need some help and don’t have any friends or family to go to. This is a long post, but please read.

I have a Savage Axis Precision 2 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor (rifle came with a 20 MOA rail). Did a little trigger work and got it where I like it. Installed a Vortex Diamondback 6-24x 50 scope, and a set of open range cross slot Leupold rings. I did some plinking at 100-200 yards the past few months.

Today I finally made it out to Dead Zero Shooting Park, the RO was absolutely great. He spent some extra time with me, and after an ammo swap to 140 Gr ELD match I was able to be on target (bad grouping though) at 1000. However we found out my scope is out of elevation adjustment. I got to 600 Yrds fine, ran out of adjustments at 800. At 1000 I dialed in at 24moa on the turret and held 12 on the reticle.

I reached my first time shooting 1k today. Furthest I’ve ever shot was 200 before that. I want to continue into the PRS sport, but I’m questioning if I’ve built something wrong with my setup. The RO said I shouldn’t be running out of elevation with my setup at this range.

Please give me your advice. What should I do to fix this issue? I love shooting, it’s a way of meditation for me personally. I want to put time into practicing, but I wouldn’t want to learn bad habits on something that isn’t right. Is there anyone who lives close by that I could watch them shoot and ask questions?

This is how you know we are screwed...

Over half of the country loves fighting sports. That's 2 people legally beating each other, sometimes to near death or death, but we are ok with it. However, this chick shows her boobs right after a fight, and people lose their minds...we are screwed...

Just under $700,000 is all it takes

Who hates/loves their customers the most?

Like many of you, I have owned a wide array of firearms and ancillary products over the years. Also like many of you, I have had stuff break or go wrong which led me to explore the quality of customer service. I know that I started the thread title negative but the best customer service I have had was actually from Schmidt and Bender. I bought 5 x 25 PMII off the forums almost a decade ago. I contacted the company and sent the scope in. They changed the reticle, they reversed the turrets from CW to CCW, they kept me informed every step of the way. I got notified when they received it, when work was being performed, when it was tested for function, when it was shipped back. Schmidt and Bender was completely awesome.

I had an issue with a KAC upper that I could not resolve myself, largely because of the unavailable tool and parts. After six months of trying to find things, multiple emails to the company (never a single response back) I brought the upper to an authorized KAC dealer. Apparently that did not mean anything as they ignored order request from the dealer, they also did not respond to the gunsmith and it took ten more months for the problem to resolve. The experience was so bad for the Gunsmith that the authorized KAC dealer will no longer service their rifles for repair. They will only do things like change the muzzle device or mount a scope.

Optic Comparison - What am I seeing?

Was at the range yesterday and had two higher end optics side by side looking at the same target area, same power setting.

Scope #1 had a clear sharp image that was very bright and showed a slight amount of mirage.

Scope #2 had a clear sharp image that was darker than #1, was a little harder to get fit into the eye box and showed a lot of mirage.

Based mostly on the mirage which of the two would be the better quality glass/scope? Does higher quality glass cut through the mirage or does it let you see the mirage better?

Maybe I should move to Wyoming

The dipshits in WA State would close something like this down, not build it. I hope it goes through.

Founders of The Constitution

There was a series of these articles in The Epoch Times that highlighted the brief backgrounds and various contributions of those considered instrumental to the forming of our nations Constitution. I’m especially enjoying the articles covering some of the lesser known and in some cases almost unknown figures that were instrumental to this effort.

Part 5: Edmund Randolph

For those that don’t know, Epoch Times is probably the most well written and unbiased print and internet media I’ve seen in a long, long time. It is very refreshing to be able to read articles written at a level above 3rd grade with actual facts and multiple views. It’s not all sound bites and click bait like most anything else I’m seeing these days.

Hawk Hill out of the barrel-making business

From Hawk Hill’s FB page:

“As word spreads fast, most of you already know that we are in the process of selling our barrel making equipment. The support we have received from the shooting community over the years has been nothing short of amazing. We thank each one of you who has trusted us enough to run our barrels. You have helped put Hawk Hill Custom on the map as one of the top barrel makers in the country.
Rest assured, Hawk Hill Custom isn’t going away. We still have our shop in VA and are still distributing our shooting accessories.
As of July 10th we have stopped taking barrel orders. Over the next few months, we will be in the process of moving equipment and training the new owner. We will work as long as it takes to have him up and running smoothly to make the finest barrel possible.
We aren’t going to release who the new owner is, he will do that on his own timing, but you will not be disappointed. He is well known and respected in the shooting community and is determined to continue making the same quality of barrels that Hawk Hill Custom has provided over the years.
We are excited to see what the future holds for this new barrel maker and for Hawk Hill Custom.”

Hopefully a higher court will overturn this.

Rifle Scopes Vortex Gen III HD 1-10x still tops?

I am looking for a 1-10x with daylight bright red dot for 16" 5.56 AR15, shooting from CQB to paper targets to 600 yds and steel to 800M.

From my reading, it seems the Vortex is tops in the application, but I haven't looked at it closely in the last 8 mos or so.

I guess my first question is if there is a replacement for the Vortex in the works. I am not in the know at all, and I woldn't mind waiting/paying for an improved version if one is in the works

Or are there other alternatives available that I don't know about?

Thanks for your knowledge!

Winchester 70 target rifle

I bought this '64 model 70 target 30-06. It was used by Andrew M. Wightman for Highpower. It is an original winchester configuration (winchester target barrel, winchester marksman stock, winchester trigger, and bottom metal). I grabbed some fgmm and some federal 180 soft points to test it. My first trip to the range I used the supplied redfield international match sights. The fgmm averaged 1.25" groups, 2636 fps with an SD of 21.0. The 180 soft points averaged 1" groups, 2644 fps with an SD of 12.0. 4 days later I installed an unertl 12x scope. Once sighted in the fgmm averaged just under 2" groups at 100 yards. In the future I'll put a modern scope on it (either a Swarovski X5 or a Nightforce) and check groups again. I was disappointed that my groups grew when comparing open sights to vintage telescopic.
