Disturbing news dropped this week, on Tuesday, One day before the anniversary of Carlos Hathcock's passing, the USMC announced they are doing away with Scout Snipers as they currently exist.

Traditions mean nothing anymore and the Marines are being gutted in a lot of way.

Tim Parkhurst President of the Scout Sniper Association is on the podcast with me discussing the details. Tim lays out the new orders and the direction the USMC plans on taking themselves in terms of the Sniper community.

It appears from Tim's reading of the Orders the Basic Scout Sniper School is going away. In fact the 0317 MOS will be retired, going away.

The details are public if you want to dig deeper. But I really appreciate Tim reaching out to me regarding this development.

Things work a lot better when you do.

The house I bought came with a gas dryer. A while back it stopped drying, the drum would turn, but no heat. Couldnt figure it out, replace the gas line and everything, still couldnt get it to work. Finally broke out the instructions and it said "Dryer spins but doesnt dry, check the lint filter. I take a look and its so pack with crap I had to fight to get it out, cleaned it, put it back in. Dryer dries like a charm.

Read the instructions. Doh!

I don't know if this has already been posted on the site, but here it is. Yesterday the Scout Sniper Association just broke the news that Scout Sniper platoons are no longer part of an infantry battalion and are being replaced by scout platoons. The 0317 Scout Sniper MOS billet is also being removed from infantry battalion's table of organization. There's no allocation of seats for the Scout Sniper basic course, but I've heard rumors that there could be one last class pushed though. Most of the sniper rifles (M40A6, Mk13 Mod 7 and Mk22) will be transferred to the new scout platoons, but there's no formal Marine Corps wide process to train Marines how to effectively utilize these weapons (you know, like some kind of sniper school or some shit).

This shit is fucking ridiculous and it's a terrible move for the Marine Corps. Snipers are a necessity on the battlefield and do far more than just pull the trigger. Tons of snipers are being used in the current Ukraine/Russia war and both sides have racked up countless kills by sniping, which shows their effectiveness in modern warfare. This is a terrible decision and I hope it's quickly reversed.

Early DTA for sale with 22” 308 barrel, mag, and bolt. Good condition just don’t shoot it any longer, but it is a great shooter just like all of them. I have several DTAs and have never seen one that shoots poorly.

Teaching a buddy how to load .223 for multiple AR's. I want to know with absolute certainty that my reloads will work in any of my AR's. So instead of chasing a unicorn, I stick with an established load that is known to work well and groups well.( 69 SMK, TAC, Wolf primers)

Brass-Once fired LC purchased in bulk when the military sold it cheap.

Methods

• Dry tumble to get the crud off and get the case clean enough for inspection.
• Lube with imperial wax
• Full length resize on Redding T7 using small base die-Single stage press allows for time to inspect case prior to moving further into process
• Tumble again to remove lube.
• Use Giraud trimmer to trim all brass
• Use Red Neck designed reduction motor with Hornady Primer Pocket Reamer/Cutter head to remove crimp in brass- Inspect brass for defects again before moving on
• Feed processed brass to Dillon 550 to drop powder, seat bullet and apply light crimp.
• All finished rounds are gauged in an EGW case gauge before being labeled and boxed.

So after resizing half a five gallon bucket of brass on the Redding my guest ask why are we doing all this? Why not just load .223 on your 1050?

I think I have become that grumpy old guy. Just doing things the way i was taught.
