Armada vs Sequoia (2017-2020)

I presently have a Gen I Sequoia; but it's getting a bit long in tooth and it's going to have to have the timing belts done soon. I just sunk money into brakes this summer (did it myself, so i'll chalk that up as an 800 dollar learning session of NEVER to buy parts from the local parts store or Summit).

So, I'm toying with possibly getting a used Armada. This won't be a daily but a 6-8x year tow vehicle for the track car and out of state vacations to beach, mountains, etc.

I guess what scares me about the Armada are:
1) Nissan quality
2) Don't hold value...is that due to quality or just because it's Nissan? However, it means nice (< 75k miles) can be had for a decent price.

Toyota quality is known; however, the Gen II Sequoia seems a super ancient design as it came 'round in 2007 vs 2017. That said, the Sequoia Gen I brakes SUCK!!!!!!!! And the transmission is a bit questionable (granted, mine was used and is now getting close to 200k).

Thoughts on the Armada appreciated.

McCarthy "Finally" elected Speaker of the House!

It took 15 rounds of voting and it was very close on the 14th round, but he finally made it .

On the 14th round McCarthy lost by 1 vote, when some of the 6 holdouts still voted for an alternative candidate (Biggs). By that time, even Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz had converted their votes to "Present" in order to lower the majority requirement.

After the 14th round of voting, one member made a motion to Adjourn until Monday, 12noon. Apparently, that motion was defeated and they caucused a little more and went to a 15th round of voting. The results were, McCarthy 216, Jeffries 212 and 6 (the remaining holdouts) voting "Present" and lowering the majority requirement.

It was so contentious in the 14th round that there appeared to have been a "physical confrontation" between Gaetz and another McCarthy supporter.

Here's a 2 minute snippet of it.

So, they're about to swear him in and he'll make his opening statement.

Now, let's get down to business. We need to curtail those 87K IRS agents and secure the border!

Well, we have to try. I know Biden will veto most of it, but we have to try.

I'm going to sleep after they swear him in.

The Smallest Soldier

Interesting story about a former SF guy who was incredibly small in stature 4’-9”.

SF Captain Richard Flaherty from Connecticut

www.thesmallestsoldier.com

There’s a book “The Giant Killer” on Amazon about him.

There’s a TikTok account - thegiantkillerofficial that has some short stories about the guy.

I figured I’d post it here since there’s plenty of height stories to be told here in the SH 😉.

SOLD . 77gr Sierra Matchking, 2500 count

I got a little crazy at the auction and bought a few too many of these SMK bulk packs so I’m selling this one. $625 shipped. Pp f/f, Venmo, etc.

I've come across a bit of a small windfall an so I'm looking for a new custom build

Hi all,

This all happened when the wife and I had to cancel a 5500 mile road trip from Florida to Yellowstone and back with all the trimmings. I've flown all over the country for years on business but I wanted to see it all from ground level. We had it all set up ready to go on 2021 and we all know what happened then. Since then we've saved even more money and with SS coming in I have to spend some of this stuff. Ain't going to live forever!

So, I'm looking at having a laser built. As I am just getting back into reloading all options are open. I'm looking at a custom bolt, from .223 to 6.5. The last one I had built was by Badrock / Defiance Machine. Love that freaking action!

Suggestions within that caliber range would be most welcome. There are some 'smiths out there that I don't know about that I am sure could put together a laser for me. If you know some please let me know

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks.

Defiance action new costs?!

Ordered my tenacity short action a couple months ago , right before they changed ownership , just so happen to look at a couple websites just now and my action is
Now selling for $1,600….
I paid lile $950 after my veterans discount for mine. Do all companies plan on hiking up their prices like that? Or is this a bold move from defiance and hurt them? I love my action , hands down , my first ever bad ass custom action , but if I didn’t get the deal I got a couple months ago and these things were these new prices , then I would have had to get zermatt origin. Just curious what you all think?

223 goes kaboom

What happens when a Norinco 223 meets it's maker.

This was the gun of a coworker that had this happen to him earlier this evening. Our head gunsmith took a look at it and deemed it to be a combination of bad metal in the receiver and something to do with the ammo.

The ammo was factory Hornady Superperformance 53gr.

Either a "hot" load or most likely from what we figure is a bullet pushed too far down into the casing causing a dangerously compressed load. The reason we are leaning this way was due to one of the other factory loads having a bullet pushed too far down into the casing and because the shooter really slammed the bolt home and may have pushed a bullet father into the casing causing over pressure.

Luckily the shooter wasn't injured at all and was a little shaken.

Happy 'Mostly Peaceful Protest at the Capitol' day

We know its 98% contrived bullshit.

We know its a dog and pony show. The laughable circus of an 'investigation' just makes it that much worse. If they had spent 1/10th of the effort investigating this on real issues like the border, our economy or a long list of other issues, we'd basically have next to no real problems.

What's happened with people who were there is unforgivable and illustrates the difference between what they say America is, to what it actually is, better than I could ever describe.

They want you to remember it as an overt attack on 'your freedom', when in reality, they want to punish you for seeing them crawling around on the floor having panic attacks and crying like a bunch of bitch ass faggots. All of them.

Semi-Auto Rifle Grip Techniques

I thought this was a really insightful video. I completely agree with Scott's assessment. I believe this wide acceptance of the thumb over grip is a symptom of a lack of fundamental discipline and/or as he describes early on; a poorly fitting rifle. Ergonomics matter and the grip is usually the first ergonomic interface that we interact with. It aids in the CONTROL of the rifle, which is what thumb over shooters intend to enhance, albeit counterintuitively. Coincidentally it is usually the first ergonomic interface that we're willing to disregard.

I also agree with the "thumb dance" explanation, but would like to take it a step further. The AR/ Carbine was intended to be a fighting rifle. A rifle that was meant to shoot move and communicate. The "thumb dance" not only adds time on the clock in a competition. It also inhibits the users ability to "Shoot, Move, And Communicate." The rifles originally intended purpose. By choosing a thumb over posture we are decreasing our ability to control the rifle while moving.

What do you think?

SOLD AI AX50 ELR in Elite Sand SOLD shipped

*TRADE IN PROGRESS*

Hi guys,

Have an almost brand new AI AX50 ELR for sale today.

Color is Elite Sand.

I bought it as a like-new demo rifle from EuroOptic - I don't think it's been fired from looking at the bolt face and muzzle brake, and I haven't fired it.

It's just sat in the safe since I got it - my access to a piece of land that could accommodate a .50 fell through, and it's not worth shooting at 1000 yards (furthest access I have).

No marks / scratches on it that I can see, it looks brand new.

Price is SOLD shipped via my FFL to your FFL, fully insured.

Comes with box and manual (which comes on a USB drive from AI).

Mainly looking for thermals as trade (+/- cash as appropriate):

Trijicon REAP-IR 35mm Thermal (2nd gen+)
NOX35
Halo LR
LWTS
ClipIR-LR

If it's a quality 640 60hz thermal - try me.

Also willing to add in an NF 7-35 F1 ATACR in a Spuhr Mount and Accu-Tac HD50 Bipod for the right trade as well - namely a ClipIR-ELR.

I accept Paypal F&F (if using G&S add the 3%), I also accept Venmo (same rules apply) and for established members, I would also accept a Personal Check (which will absolutely clear before this ships), or a Bank Drafted Cashiers Check.

Please PM with any questions.

Thanks.

Where is the blood? (stories of hurting yourself)

I was working on my race car. I had welded in the brackets with bolts to hold the seat belts in. And darn if I did not screw up the nut when I welded it in. Too hard to see behind the seat, some splatter or something got in there and the bolt WOULD NOT GO. So instead of cutting it all out and re doing it all over I decide to cut the nut off and just weld a new one in its place.....much more easy.

Grinding away and the cutting disks grabs and bounces off my knuckle. Gloves, no those are for pansies. Well crap that hurt but not bad, stop and decide I better wash it out, all that metal dust and all and stick something over it.

I look at my hand and my knuckle has a very sharp cut right down the middle, no blood. Almost looks like it is burned but that black could be metal or disc dust. I am standing there next to the car and my wife was there with me putting on stickers. I am standing there looking at my finger and you can pull on the sides of the cut and open it up....cool no blood and no real pain. Hay hon look at this, do you think this is my knuckle bone? She freaks a bit but with no blood not that bad.....yea I think it is. Hay look at this you can pull on the sides and see inside real well.....don't do that.....why it is not doing anyth.........the damn broke and the blood started to really flow.

never went to hospital, you can't sew up a knuckle. Still have a good scar on my index finger some 30 years later.

Lets hear 'em.
