Which one of you is this?

"Everyone is OK," Anthony, the father, told a 911 dispatcher that night. "I need some police protection immediately. It is of vital national interest. It is related to September 11 and people want to erase me from the face of the Earth."

I wonder what his Hide username is? I bet all his posts are in the Porta John thread.

@Gee Kay ?

Yes, it's horrible people die from fentanyl....BUT....when you play rough on the playground you are gonna get hurt at some point.

There was another news story about an overdose/accidental "poisoning" case where the "drug user community" actually seeks out the specific dealer cause they got "the hard stuff". WTF!?

How old do you think these are.....

This past weekend my aunt brought these by, I never knew my uncle reloaded. I never remember seeing anything guns at all past him thinking it was funny to hand a 7yr old a 44mag. It was the 70's, people acted differently.

He has been gone roughly 11 years, so I know they are older then that. Both in plastic. I used the top this past weekend, no issues. Just loaded up 5 rounds of 7.62x54R on the very light side and no issues.

Just wondering on the age of them.

On to the pics.

So what's the best target to use for a thermal scope?

So today was a sunny day in Ohio and decided to put my Trijicon scope on my new AR that I've been working with. Haven't moved this off the old gun so it's been a few years since I sited it in. I've always used hand warmers but they gave me hell today with the sun. Is there anything out there that works better than a hand warmer? Also seems like it gave off a large blurry heat signature even though they were pretty small.

What do YOU want to see from MY 14.5” winter Project?

TLDR: What items do you want to see compared between 2 different (carbine gas vs mid piston) 14.5” builds for performance in a “Jack of all trades, SHTF” rifle you keep on standby as your “I can only grab one” 5.56 rifle?

Wordy version:

Alright, SH, for (one of) my winter project(s) I’ve settled on building a 14.5 SHTF upper… well, actually, two.

Why two? Because I couldn’t decide between the “simplicity” of something like the m4 I was issued 1.5 decades ago, which served me well for a couple tours in the sandbox, or to build a “modern” 14.5” that would have everything I would want (heavy barrel, piston operated, etc) but I personally have not actually proved out…

So, I’ve researched many of the build topics to death, and more often then not, whether in form of forum, article, YouTube video, or operator endorsement, there’s very little significant head-to-head, scientifically and statistically relevant information with quantifiable data to back up the many theories, hypotheses, and opinions provided.

For me, the proof is in the pudding, so I’m making some pudding in the caliber of 5.56.

So now that I have the direction, I’m seeking your thoughts on quantifiable measures you’d like to see in a head-to-head build, as I will be documenting this venture and want to make sure that I’m capturing items of relevant interest and also to ensure the test methods will be repeatable so that as this adventure progresses, I can test further (and different) builds against a set of standards that people like us on the
Hide would like to see.

So what’s important to you?

In example, some of mine are:
-Sound signatures, suppressed.
-Recoil impulse
-service interval requirements (IE how quick it needs cleaned)
-lowest power pet load for LRBH tune ability
-etc. etc.

Setup For PRS?

I have my first pretty respectable .22lr rifle. I've had some 10/22s over the years but never a "real" 22lr bolt gun worth anything.
It also seems that there is a range in my town that runs some .22lr PRS matches. I'd love to shoot them, schedule permitting. I'm wondering how my set-up will work and if I'll need to seriously swap anything out in the immediate future. Biggest question I have is glass. I have some decent options available to me but if I need to get something different, I'll do my darndest to figure it out.
Current set-up:
VuDoo G1 Kukri 18" w/brake (a silencer is in the plans)
3 mags
20MOA pic rail
MPA BA chassis
Harris bi-pod w/pod lock
Leupold VX5HD 3-15

I think the biggest thing I'm missing right now is bags but I have something I can probably make work to get me through until I figure out what I need.
I have an 8-32 NF NXS doing nothing at the moment as well as a 3-9 VXR. If one of those is "better" let me know. I figured the 8-32 would be a bit tough on the low end and the 3-9 wouldn't be enough on the high end.

Let me know what y'all think of this as a beginner set-up and if there's anything glaringly "wrong".

Custom actions

I gotta ask a dumb question…. There’s a ton of custom actions out there, most of them look incredible. Aside from choosing controlled/push feed, integral recoil lug, integral rail, 60/90 throw…. What really separates all these actions? Does it really just come down to brand loyalty/preference?

Is there any “real” difference between the defiances, impacts, bighorns, kelblys, Curtis, surgeons, etc?

Movie Theater Halloween Ends

So the deplorable Maser household finally got around to watching the new Halloween movie tonight and despite what some critics have said, I think it's a decent movie. I mean it's a fucking slasher movie, so it's not like it has to be good to be good. I understand why it's gotten hate and I won't say why due to spoiling. This is another one of those cases where you should just give movie critics the middle finger and watch it for yourself. One of the death scenes made my wife have to cover her eyes, so this movie is a winner in my book. :)

SOLD ZCO 5-27 MPCT 3x with Spuhr 6601 barely used SOLD

Up for sale is a barely used ZCO 5-27 MPCT 3x with a spuhr 6601 mount. I purchased two of these scopes back in June along with a TT 5-27 JTAC, and even though it makes more sense to have two 3xs on both of my match rifles, I just love that TT too much. Scope is in excellent condition, and mount is as well. I'll sell the scope and the mount for SOLD. Wife is getting on me for the mount of "spare parts" I have lol. Paypal f/f preferred. If this gets done today, I'll ship first thing in the morning.

Problems reloading precision ammo with Hornady 75gr BTHP

I have tried to get the Hornady 75gr BTHP to play along with my MR223 but all my efforts have been futile.

So far my attempts have consisted of
Materials:
2 cases, Sako and Geco.
3 primers, 450, 400 and Ginex
Only N540 powder, I have settled to that and have it stacked.

Reloading changes:
Powder charges of 23.9, 24.4, 24.7, 25.0 and 25.2.
COALs of 2.230, 2.250 and 2.26.

I am now waiting to get to the range to test my latest reloads with 25.2gr and COAL of 2.271, 2.286, 2.296 and 2.305.

Obviously this is grabbing on straws since 3 of 4 of above load lengths are over any mag length.

I did notice that my barrel is shot enough that I cannot reach the lands anymore, after trying with shorter lengths I carefully fed a crimped case with a bullet seated at 2.559 and it returned with length of 2.551 without any marks.

My scenar 77gr loads are still hammering without any problems and even PMC and Geco bulk do better than my handloads with the 75gr.

Is my barrel so shot that I cannot get the Hornadys to run with it anymore? Just surprising how the contrast between scenars and them is so stark. I switched to 75s because one distributor got tons of them while scenars are hard to find and cost 43% more.

The scenars do nearly 1moa while hornady does around 2moa. Bulk is between with 1.4-1.6moa.
So far the SMALLEST group of 14 groups with hornadys has been 1.5moa.

I am waiting for a spare barrel to arrive but it might take some time and have not seen any reason to replace it just yet.

-----EDIT 26 SEP 2024 added to both first and last post----

I have already shot 2k of Hornady BTHP from my Lothar barrel and sub moa 5 round groups are the norm at my 300m range. This is with

I ordered 3k or 4k more already.

I tested both N140 and N540 and while N140 gave better groups with fresh barrel with clear mean radius win, I later tested both again just to see how they compare and N540 did so good that I chose to load with it.

My current load is:
PMC brass, uncleaned, nylon brushed neck
Ginex SRP primer
Hornady 75gr BTHP at 2.28", I noticed my accuracy improved a lot the longer I loaded them and this was the longest I got to fit in pmag with the grooves made in them.
N540 24.4gr
16" Lothar barrel, 2740fps, 14fps mean SD from multiple sessions

I have now shot these twice out to 1200yds and few times at 770yds and the Kestrel with G7 value of 0.180 has held up very well. I added some pictures to my last post too, but basically this round has incredible performance for value!

I tried this load with 2.28" and 2.25" COAL in a LMT and it ran around 1.5" with the shorter COAL running better, so I guess that this COAL preference is specific to just my gun.
