Firearms HK91 A2

I've decided to part with another of my HK91's. I've got something in sight that I need to raise some quick "Momma Don't Know" money just to avoid listening to it. This is a quality shooter grade 91. It's solid, but I just want to be honest. I'd rather underpromise and over deliver. Has had an optic mounted at some point so it has the typical light marks on the receiver. The bore is beautifully bright and sharp. Additional pictures available upon request.

For some reason a previous owner radiused the rear castle sight edges slightly. I'd not noticed, but a member messaged me inquiring about the rifle and pointed it out to me.

The rifle can be purchased two different ways:

Option 1: As pictured with the HK wood furniture for $2,950

Option 2: With the black furniture in the separate set of pictures below and NO WOOD FURNITURE for $2750. This forend has been coated with something textured and the stock has had the same done but someone has attempted to remove the coating. Neither are pretty, but they're functional.

White Oak barrels vs Faxon MATCH & Criterion

I've currently got a Faxon match barrel and it's not shooting as good as I'd hope it would - around 1.2-1.8 MOA with IMI 77gr OTMs. 1.9-3.0 MOA with M193. I'm going to play around with a couple more bullet weights but I'm unsure it'll improve drastically. I'm trying not to fall into my habit of constantly changing my rifle (this would be it's 4th barrel since I first bought it) - but I know exactly what I want - a lightweight, fluted barrel that can shoot consistent MOA with match ammo and 2.0 or better with M193, and while the faxon is lightweight and fairly accurate I want MORE.

I had a Criterion before. It was alright, but their backorders are LONG. So I'm leaning White Oak (Or rainer, etc).

I know it's fun to drag on Faxon, but without bias, would white oak really shoot lights out compared to Faxon's **match** barrels?

Back from Africa

Went over to work out some details of my impending retirement to the dark continent. While I was there I had the opportunity to take a red lechwe. Normally one of these would be simply too expensive but a good friend hooked me up with a hunt at a price I could not afford to scoff at. Taken with a .308win Sako wearing a USO optic and for the first time in my hunting in Africa, the rifle was not suppressed. Just a bare muzzle. 2 in the shoulder using Nosler Accubond's. The first one thoroughly disconnected the on-side shoulder bones from the rest of the constituent parts of the bugger and set the old boy's handbrake. The 2nd shot, while possibly being not entirely necessary, unburdened us of the whole "chase me, chase me" ritual and disconnected the heart from the other parts that were still connected to each other. When I got up to it, both front feet were over the head between the horns like it was expecting to be cuffed. Clearly it was feeling guilty about something. Chalk up one more hide and skull and another good time hanging out with friends.

Side story: South Africa is one of those special places where it's just safe enough across enough of it to be relaxing while being just off the rails enough to be properly fun and exciting. Upon landing in Johannesburg I was seated in the plane such that I was surrounded by 3 middle aged german couples who'd never been to any part of Africa before much less South Africa. It's all perfectly fine as long as you don't do anything truly stupid. Their whole trip had been planned by one of the gals who'd brought along the thing she used to plan the trip: a guide book which mentioned all of the neat stuff while mentioning exactly none of the realities of the situation. I glanced through at the sticky note'd pages for the hotspots they planned on visiting and noticed that the book was, if not directly misleading, clearly written by someone that probably enjoyed surprise buttsex a good deal more than most would. The Germans saw my taken aback-ness and asked for any tips I might have to add. As it was about midnight when we landed, I suggested that they get a room at one of the hotels on the airport grounds rather than go galavanting around Joburg after dark. They looked stunned, as if my concern for their probability of living long and happy lives was somehow a distinctly paranoid delusion. Because someone further forward on the plane was being arrested for being a drunken dick to the cabin crew we had a good bit of time to chat and I think that I and a friendly local who'd joined in to echo my admonition to exercise special caution after dark had finally managed to convey that while many parts of South Africa are quite nice and the people generally lack in true malice with most being friendly in a burglar-ish/beggar-ish kind of way; especially the Western Cape province which is still exceptionally nice in most spots and the people very warm and friendly with very little burglar-ish/beggar-ish overtones, Joburg is one of the more unlovely parts of Africa generally and it's best left to one side for first timers. I then gave them the most important tip I could: do not simply rely on GPS for navigation in South Africa. Ever. Instead to hit google maps, google earth, etc... and have a really damned good notion of exactly where they'd be going and how exactly they'd get there before ever heading out on any particular journey lest one end inadvertently up in one of the exceptionally unlovely parts of the country where things can get very exciting very quickly.

MK Machining - Terrible Customer Service

I purchased lens covers from MK Machining for a Vortex Razor 1-6. I received them and one of the covers doesn't fit. I called MK Machining and a lady answered. She stated she had recently heard from other customers that the cover doesn't fit. She asked me to measure the diopter and tell her the dimensions. My digital calipers were at my shop, so I couldn't give her measurements at that time.

I called a few days later with the measurements and spoke with a man. He informed me they had simply gone by the dimensions listed on Vortex's website and didn't actually test the product on the actual scope. He suggested I send it back to him and he would send me another one. He also stated they only cerakote once a week, so it would take time to get one back to me. There was no offer to pay for shipping, since this clearly wasn't my error. I told him I wasn't happy with how long this process was going to take, but he seemed unconcerned. In my opinion, when it's your mistake, you send one out to the customer immediately and send a shipping label to send the old one back.

Fast forward to now. MK Machining received the cover on 11/7, but I've yet to receive any communication from them, and I don't have a cover back. I've tried to call, but I get a recording that they're having phone issues and customers should email. I've emailed them, but I can't get a response. This is terrible customer service for a supposedly precision product that was never tested on the actual scope.

People are going to freeze to death......

I am looking for a way to heat my shop. After doing some research I am going to do one of these cheapo chinese heaters till I get the loft built in the shop and I can put in a wood stove.

In my research I came across this video. Nothing really outstanding on the video but at the end he made some comments that I found very interesting....VERY.

If you are not interested in this stuff, just skip to 19:38 to see his comments on heating in england this winter. I found it really quite sad.

I know this is going on over there. And yea they made their bed let them sleep in it, but keep in mind where most of us live, do you really think this can't happen in the US, if you do sorry it is happening. I don't have a good video like this one where someone makes some interesting comments on a diesel heater video. I find these little bits of info tell you the real story of what is going on.

Hey Shorty...

Through the "magic" of reloading this season I have produced a few "short" cases. By short I mean to say a few tho short in both overall length and on the shoulder. (Vs say the other 75 cases I shoot on a regular basis)
So these cases have sat in the "nope" box. But now I'm wondering.... if I load them up and shoot them (how else am I going to get them to grow?) what should I expect?
For reference it's 223 @ 200Y and the rifle groups around .9"s at that distance.
Is it worth burning components just to get some growth on them?
Thanks!

I'm not a gunsmith!

I've been mechanically inclined all my life and have never had any problems working on, or modifying my own guns.
About 4 months ago a coworker brought me a Rem 60 that belonged to his friend, I fixed it. A month later he brought me his model 60, which I fixed.
Tonight he brought me something I can't identify, so I'm reaching out to y'all to pick your brains.
It's a single shot rifle; Mod. R-6 22 long rifle imported by F.I.F. Miami, FL from Taiyo-Japan. My online searches come back with Remington, Winchester, Savage. It has a brown plastic stock that's been broken in half and glued back together and missing action screw. Nothing I can't handle, but I do like to source correct parts, when possible. Damn, I need a Numrich catalog.

Is Grayboe as good as McMillan or Manners?

Fixing to order my barrel for my new tenacity action in a couple days , then after I get my trigger I’ll finally be able to get its stock or chassis. I was wondering if these grayboe fiberglass stocks would be as tough and accurate and durable as the McMillan fiberglass stocks or manners composite stocks ( I really like the adjustable renegade better than the ridgeback but would
Take either ). I wouldprefer manners if I come across the right deal but may be settling with the grayboe if it is decent quality. And yes I will be glass bedding the action to the stock. For the money , i can get a lower-mid end chassis also , but I think that will be last resort
