Woman Scammed by ‘Russian Astronaut’ Who Claimed to Need Money to Return to Earth

A man claiming to be a Russian astronaut in space allegedly scammed a Japanese woman into paying for his return trip to Earth, vowing to marry her once he landed.
The man found the 65-year-old unnamed victim on Instagram in June. On his profile, he uploaded random photos of space and said he worked at the International Space Station, where astronauts have limited access to cell service.
Their relationship quickly escalated. On LINE, a Japanese messaging app, he repeatedly said he loved her and proposed marriage. He sent her messages like “I want to start my life in Japan” and “Saying this 1,000 times won’t be enough, but I’ll keep saying it. I love you,” news outlet TV Asahi reported.
But to actually tie the knot, he said, he needed money to return to Earth. There were landing fees to pay once in Japan and the cost of a rocket to actually fly to the country, he said.
Believing this man would be her future fiancé, the woman paid him about 4.4 million yen (about $30,000) in five installments, from August 19 to September 5, the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun reported.
But when his demands continued, the woman grew suspicious of his intent and reported him to the police, who are investigating the case as a romance scam, local media reported.

Effing Redding dies

I've been doing just fine with my Hornady custom dies but decided I wanted to try messing with neck tension outside of a neck mandrel and purchased a Redding Type S match die set with the sizing die and micrometer seating die. I bought three neck sizing bushings in titanium nitride so I could dial in 2 thousandths neck tension for various brass/bullets.

I typically use either lanolin or Hornady One Shot. Lanolin as of late, is my go-to as it's just worked, is non-toxic and cheap. I also wash my brass between sizing and loading. Either is an absolute no-go with the Redding die. The die was so tight that I literally couldn't get a fired piece of brass to resize with either. It took so much force I knew the brass would get stuck or the table would snap!

So I tried an already full length resized piece of brass with lanolin, alcohol flashed off, and it got stuck. Pounded it out with a punch. Did the same with Hornady One Shot. Same result. BOTH lubes work just fine in a Hornady die with very little effort.

I pack it up and send it in to Redding with five pieces of recently fired brass. I get it back in about a week (nice turn around!) saying there's nothing wrong, they had no problem sizing the brass and to use their lube. Four of the five were resized. NONE were consistent and off a few thousandths from one and other. I can nail off a hundred with the Hornady and all are right on target. Super easy.

They did send back a little sample of their imperial sizing die wax. Ok, I'll give it a whirl. First one, apparently not enough lube. Extremely hard to get back out of the die and I lucked out. I lube it up a bit more and it's easier this time. I start using more and more lube until it becomes "easier" for subsequent cases. The required effort is still substantially above the Hornady die, particularly on the downstroke. I am using cam over, set up like Redding's instructions dictate and I'm rotating the die to set final head space, not adjusting with the shell holders.

I did about a dozen and final head space was all over the map. If it came in too long, I'd adjust down and re-lube the case, then push it into the die until I had the head space number I was looking for. If I did not re-lube, it'd get stuck again, no question. In fact, one did get stuck when I didn't use enough lube and I was using a lot of lube.

If I then lubed up another case to check shoulder bump, it'd be like 6 thousandths off the previous sized die.

My sized headspace measurements were all over the map. From 1.620 to 1.628 depending on the size of the pre-sized fired case. Must be the lube. So I stopped lubing the neck/shoulder area but the results weren't any better.

I threw in a few fired from my AR10 which are in the 1.630+ range. Those would size down to 1.626, my target. If I then took a fired case that was 1.626 already, it'd size down to 1.618 to 1.620 with no adjustments to the die. I really don't understand this as I'm mechanically limiting the amount of bump. All brass is the exact same head stamp.

I have the neck bushing free floating per Redding's instructions but that shouldn't affect shoulder bump. Just at a loss. I've got about $300 in the set with bushings and I'm about ready to toss it out the window.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

CNN Sounds Alarm: SCOTUS May Wipe Out Gun Control ‘Nationwide’

CNN sounded the alarm Sunday, warning that the pro-Second Amendment makeup of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) portends an end to gun control “nationwide.”

CNN’s Tierney Sneed pointed to the June 23, 2022, SCOTUS decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen, noting that it not only struck down New York’s proper cause requirement but also set forward stringent rules for how lower courts must decide cases related to the Second Amendment.

On July 1 Breitbart News noted that SCOTUS remanded a number of cases, vacating the decisions and ordering them to be reconsidered in light of Bruen. The cases centered on an “assault weapons” ban in Maryland, a “high capacity” magazine ban in California, and carry restrictions in Hawaii, among other things.

Roughly two weeks later Breitbart News pointed to a Washington Times article suggesting the Bruen decision puts all types of gun control in the crosshairs of gun rights groups.

The Washington Times paraphrased Justice Clarence Thomas’s emphasis on the important of decisions like Bruen, McDonald v. Chicago (2010), and District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), saying, “The test courts must apply is whether a firearms restriction would have seemed reasonable to the founding generation that crafted and ratified the Second Amendment. If not, the law must give way to the Constitution.”

In light of this framework for testing restrictions, CNN warns that gun control in every state is in jeopardy:

Since the June ruling, federal judges in at least a half-dozen different cases have already cited the Bruen decision to rule against gun restrictions that have included local assault weapons bans, prohibitions on the manufacture of homemade firearms and bans on older teenagers publicly carrying handguns.
Several other laws now face new legal challenges under the precedent, among them zoning restrictions barring shooting ranges, licensing and training laws and the federal ban on certain misdemeanor offenders from possessing firearms.
CNN noted changes that have already occurred in jurisprudence in light of Bruen:

A federal district judge cited the ruling last month when halting Delaware restrictions on possessing and manufacturing untraceable firearms, saying that the law’s defenders failed to provide persuasive evidence that similar restrictions existed in the historical record. The precedent was also referenced when local assault weapon bans in two Colorado jurisdictions were put on hold this summer; the judges in both cases were each appointed by Democratic presidents.
CNN also noted a decision handed down on Thursday to “pause” new gun controls New York enacted in response to Bruen.

Breitbart News indicated the New York controls were paused via a temporary restraining order issued by U.S. District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby.

Yeah I know, it's CNN but hope springs eternal!

Thinking about a new PRS gun build - AICS AT-X?

I've been shooting a Howa 6.5 creedmoor barreled action in an MDT ACC chassis for the past year. I'm thinking about a new build for next year. I.ve been reading the threads on the at-x chassis. So.....

AICS AT-X chassis

SA Impact precision 737r or Kelby Atlas action (leaning towards impact precision)

Benchmark pre-fit 6.5 Creedmoor barrel from Straightjacket Armory M24. I've been reloading all my own ammo, so I might request less freebore so I can get a little closer to the lands with hornady a-tips or berger hybrids.

Thoughts / recommendations on this combination?

Adding Credit Card Option

We are adding a Credit Card Option, which is honestly no better at all and will require a bit more to manage, but it's what people wanted.

Pay Pal is seamless and works better than any other available option, but we can incorporate our Credit Card Service.

Understand this, the Credit Card Companies are absolutely Anti 2A just as bad a Pay Pal. They might not fine you, but they are compiling a master list and will absolutely give your information to your political enemies so be warned up front.

If you complain from this point forward, you will be removed, no discussion is needed. Also, refunds with a CC system vs Pay Pal are different and more involved. So instead of 2 clicks and you are refunded, don't expect me to help you at all. In the past, if you reached out and said, Hey Man, I meant to cancel and forgot, can you can cancel and refund me, sure, no problem, cause it was easy. Now, if you email me, that same thing, don't expect a reply, just cancel and move on. I will not engage in anything when it comes to the Credit Card System if you screw up, it's on you; ignorance will not get you any favors.

lastly, if the Credit Card causes a hassle, they will be gone faster than Pay Pal. They can create a bigger issue vs Pay Pal; regardless of the horror stories you read about Pay Pal, the Credit Card companies can and will be worse, but you asked for it.

Why is it always pitt bulls?

So two "family dogs" decide to kill the baby and toddler and nearly the mother.

"The dogs – two pit bulls that belonged to the family – were euthanized at Memphis Animal Services Thursday."

Pitt bulls. Every. fucking. time. They're never violent until they snap and kill the kids. Why do people think these dogs are safe to have around kids? I don't get it.

I love dogs and we just rescued a cattle dog mix that some morons thought would be good to have with their young children, stuck inside and no where to run around and burn off their massive energy. But I will never understand anyone owning a pitt bull.

Out of the box Tikka will not chamber rounds

Trying to figure out if this is a gun issue, or a me issue.
Bolt will not close on a lot of rounds and is really hard to close on the others. So far, none of the rounds I've loaded will chamber easily.
Everything is within SAAMI spec.
Tikka t3x varmint 6.5CM
120gr BTHP
OAL 2.68
Headspace 1.915
I even tried loading an empty case that measures 1.915
It will chamber, but the bolt is very hard to close
At this point, I'm almost ready to take it to a gunsmith as I've heard it sucks to deal with Beretta.

Rifle Scopes Razor 1-6 gen2e vs nightforce ns8 vs acog with offset rmr….

Howdy y’all, the whole lpvo thing has been something I’ve been fighting for a long time. I was raised on irons which grew into red dot sights and holographic sights with and without magnifiers and actually did the Iraq thing with and ACOG and loved it. I’ve always been “scared” of “real” scopes on carbines, being as I want a duty ready, shtf, body stacking setup that checks as many box’s as possible. And won’t break when I fall going down a mountain side or down stairs in urban. And imo until post 2015 +/- (I’m sure my dates are off) Lpvo optics seemed more gimmicky and unless you had 3000$, Not legit bombproof. Durability is a huge deal to me. I’ve been to hell. It matters. Just like water submersible, imo if it doesn’t have a legit water rating, it’s a budget optic. So to get to my point, I have a 14.5 pinned Novekse CHF CL (yeah I know it’s FN), urgi rails, aero enhanced receivers. LWRCI fire control group (updating to ssa-e later) I also wanna run the Vltor A5 buffer system… (but again that’s down the road, I have it on my stainless Noveske and love it)

With all the eotech vudu 1-6 1-8 1-10… vortex razor 1-6 (the 1-10 is probably too much $ but I’m considering saving for it…) I know nightforce from all my H.O.G. friends and I know the NS8 Is the budget, but it’s still pretty epic. I’ve looked at the sig ffp 1-6, the trijicons, I think I’ve looked at most of the 1000-1500$ price range street value LPVOs, I know in that price range durability becomes less of an issue, because they’re all decently manufactured, 95% use Japanese glass, all of them battery life is horrible. Big point for me is The ease of the reticle for ranging and engaging human targets, FOR MY FIANCÉ. I’m honestly not worried about myself with any of these optics, but I want a new less experienced shooter aka my woman, or loved one, could pick up my rifle and fairly easily provide effective cover fire while I maneuver or set her/them off somewhere like an Eagles nest and let her use some distance to help buy time between shots. My SBR has a good old aimpoint T2 (king of red dots) and fixed irons (I know I’m old school) but I absolutely love that setup especially because you basically just aim upper thorax 0-300 and plug away. I plan on getting her as much trigger time as possible and training her diligently, but she is OCONUS and I’m trying to get my kit together before she gets back and I won’t be able to save anymore money to get legit kit items lol. I appreciate any guidance or opinions, preferably from other legit operators, but anyone with first hand experience with these, please share your opinion. As of now im kinda set on saying fuck it and just running a good old ACOG with offset rmr. The eye relief is my main issue with that setup… but with the offset rmr I think that would make up the speed in CQB distance. I THINK that LPVO or ACOG, I’ll probably still run offset rmr… or piggyback. I Have a construction job so money isn’t super great, but I force myself to live off frozen burritos and have no life. I work, I train, that’s it. No life. I’m currently at like 600$ in the kitty with the ability to take 300-400 a week out of my check to save. Oh and the ringer is my birthday (I know who cares 🤷🏻‍♂️Lol) is Halloween and was KINDA hoping to have this accomplished before then as a kinda self present 🤷🏻‍♂️ Btw FFP/SFP I don’t care as long as the reticle is daylight bright and makes sense. Preference being FFP.

Thank you all for you time!
God bless and SEMPER FIDELIS!!!
Robert 🖤

Btw, I know I’m probably paranoid, but does anyone else feel like something bad is coming? Like a sense of doom? With all this peer to peer conflict stuff on the horizon, I’m worried shits about to pop. And with a nuclear holocaust, I think the acog would be better option… I dunno, I hope I’m wrong. But I think as responsible gun owners and veterans, it will be people like us, taking care of the cry baby soft skinned sheep we know and love. The Wolves protecting the sheep. Kind of ironic. I feel like we’re right around the corner for the fall of the American empire. Or the fight to keep it. Stay frosty gents 🇺🇸
