Hunting Rifle Light, Fast, and Quality

I am looking into buying a bolt action rifle, most likely in .308. This will be my only bolt action and larger caliber rifle. I primarily want it for deer season and occasional recreational shooting. I hunt national forest and like to walk a longgg ways in. The area I hunt often has dogs running deer so I want a gun that is decent in low light but also offers fast shouldering and target aquistion. I have it pretty much narrowed down to the savage 110 tactical hunter with a heavier 18" barrel or the ruger predator .308 with a 18" barrel. I understand both are free floated and have what shooters consider cheap flimsy stocks but as I keep my shots on game under 200 yards I don't think it will matter much. As an unexperienced shooter here are my pros and cons for now.

110
  • 110 series actions are not the economy line in savage, likely higher quality than the ruger american line.
  • Heavier barrel may make it more accurate if shot in different positions in the field. Off hand, off pack, leaning on tree, and etc.
  • Retain value, as 110s are higher quality if I decide to upgrade my rifle may be a better starting platform.
Ruger Predator
  • Lower cost
  • Lighter, may be quicker to shoulder.
  • Specs say it's shorter, better for hiking through the woods.
What are people's thoughts. If cost is not a big factor, as it is a rifle I expect to own for years the difference is pretty small already.
What are the real benefits of a heavier barrel if not shooting for tight groups in fast succession? Are heavier barrels mainly a benefit for range shooting?

Teen Vogue: ‘Paid Menstrual Leave’ Is a ‘Fundamental Worker’s Right’ that Should Be Guaranteed

Paid menstrual leave is a “fundamental worker’s right” that should be guaranteed by employers, according to a recent Teen Vogue op-ed that makes the case for the policy, claiming that workers are not “children to be managed by paternalistic bosses” and should not be forced to use “normal sick days” during menstrual periods.

The Thursday essay, titled “Paid Menstrual Leave Is a Worker’s Rights Issue That Employers Should Guarantee,” was penned by contributor Sara Youngblood Gregory, a self-described “lesbian poet,” whose upcoming work “The Polyamory Workbook” deals with “navigating ethical non monogamy”.

According to Gregory, paid menstrual leave “is more than just an added employment benefit — it’s a worker’s rights issue.”

Where to buy a scope?

I'm afraid this question may result in a number of strongly held opinions, sometimes based more on emotions and politics than on practical issues. I mean it as a practical question and am looking for practical answers and insights. So I think that I'll just ask it, and then sit back and benefit from what's said -- rather than engaging in any "discussion" or argumentation myself. I suppose I should answer any direct questions if posed, but other than that, I'm not in this to convince anyone of anything. That being said, ...

Suppose that I want to buy a kind of scope that is "mid-range" in price. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that it's something like an Athlon Argos or Midas, a Burris Fullfield or Signature, or a Vortex Venom or Viper. But those are just examples. This isn't about a specific brand or model. Let's assume that I've settled on the set of features I want and in fact have settled on the specific model with those features. Let's further assume that we're ruling out buying the scope second-hand or in a private sale -- I think I know the benefits and risks involved in those cases.

What I'm wondering is: "Is there a clear benefit to buying the scope from one place rather than another?" If so, what are the best places and specifically what is that benefit? For example, if I can get the scope from such providers as Academy Sports (large national chain), Camera Land (online), Amazon, a "local" gun store (probably by special order), or Ebay (not from an "individual" as a private sale, but from someone with a history of selling such models), then which one of these should I choose to do business with? Or does it really just come down to price at that point?

My thinking is that since the scope will have a manufacturer's warranty, then what is to gain from purchasing from one place rather than another -- except for the purchase price? I'm particularly interested in any genuine experiences (and not speculations or "common sense" observations) that people may have had (either good or bad). When you look at these things, it certainly appears that they have pretty much the status of "commodities" across the number of sales sources, the prices are very similar (if not identical), and only vague claims are made about "Why you should buy from us." But I'm curious about whether there are any differences -- real, practical differences -- and what those may be.

Firearms PRICE REDUCED: $1950 M110 SASS Sniper rifle copy

$1950 shipped I am a retired 18A Special Forces Officer, former Detachment Commander of ODA-075, and I built this rifle that you can bet your life on. This is a copy of the SASS M110 sniper rifle. It exceeds the Army standard for accuracy for the M110 system. It shoots sub moa with match ammo, see a typical 5 shot group in the pictures. You can see me engage a hostage target at 100yds with this gun in this video Login to view embedded media This precision rifle utilizes an Aero M5 upper and lower. The bolt is by Brownell's and is nickel boron coated. The barrel is 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium by Aero Precision and is 20" long with a 1:7 twist. It has a picatinny gas block and attachment for the Knights Armament M110 suppressor. A non-functional display copy of the Knights suppressor is included (firing the rifle with this display suppressor will destroy the suppressor). There is a KAC type M110 adjustable stock with flush cups. The Monstrum quad rail includes KAC rail covers and a Harris type bipod. The trigger is a modular match trigger, with anti-walk pins, breaking at a crisp 3.5 pounds. The gun is finished in a custom Cerakote "Battleworn" finish. Weight is 11 pounds and overall length is 41.5" to 43.5". I guarantee this gun 100% and you can return it for a full refund (less shipping) within 5 days for any reason. I have never had a rifle returned, see my feedback on GunBroker where I am specialagent44. Gun is cross listed on other sites and will be removed if bid on or sold. Bipod, Magpul 20 rd magazine, and display suppressor included. Shipped in hard case OPTIC NOT INCLUDED. No sales where prohibited $2300 shipped to your FFL. Reloading room humidity

This is actually 2 questions. I went down to my basement where all my reloading equipment was last week, and my dies and other metal tools had rust on them. I went and got a humidity moniter and the humidity ranges from almost 70 to 50 percent over the past week.

Question one
My primers are just in the brick that they came in and my powder is sealed tight in the containers. Are they still good? I planned on loading over 1000 rounds this weekend for shtf ammo.

Question 2 any suggestions on how to remove the rust from the dies?

I purchased a dehumidifier. Humidity is at about 30 percent right now, and in the winter I can't imagine it getting above 20 with my wood stove running 24/7.

Thanks fellas!

SOLD V4 Autotrickler

I have a v4 Autotrickler I’m putting up for sale of the price is right. I have been on a waiting list for another one that should be shipping any day now and won’t need this one. So I figure I can help someone out that is looking for one instead of canceling my order on the new one. This Autotrickler has had no more then 2lbs of powder through it. It’s basically brand new. Id need to get $450 out of it to consider letting it go plus $10 shipping to lower 48.

Retro / Old School LongSwords on Surgeon receivers

So. . . .
I purchased a group of Surgeon M1086 actions last year when Preston was getting everything whipped into shape in Phoenix. My curiosity was piqued as to whether they were as good as the ones I had gotten years earlier when they were in Prague, OK. I was impressed with these and have been attempting to get them built into complete rifles between the regular workload.

I split the group between .300 Win Mag and .300 PRC and included the usual features I have been running on my standard LongSwords since 2014.

Because I'm not real smart and I can't build enough of the usual Mk2 LongSwords, these will be the last and only ones I am going to build on the Surgeons.

It was a neat, almost nostalgic project and I thought they came out nice.

Can someone please explain

Why all of the sudden is the element Nitrogen now considered a pollutant? It's the 7th most common element in our universe, is necessary in plant life, and is a key component in amino acids.

First it was CO2, another necessary chemical compound for plants and photosynthesis, is naturally occurring and has been since earth became a planet. Even carbon, the basis for all life on this planet, is considered a pollutant.

I'm no scientist, I'm also not a chemist, but early on in grade school science we were taught that CO2 and nitrogen are important for plant life and the overall health of the eco system. Now it seems like none of that is taught and these modern so-called "scientists" know more than some of the greatest minds to ever walk the earth.

Can someone help me understand scientifically why they are now bad?

Thinking about upgrading to a Zermatt Arms TL3

So Im thinking of upgrading to a Zermatt Arms TL3. I just wanted your guys' opinions as to what your thoughts are on them. Where do you guys get your barrels? Are you guys that have them happy with the setup and the barrel changes? I have shot nothing but Remington 700 and Savage for 12 years and from what Im seeing I could upgrade actions and basically change barrels myself for about what it would cost for me to buy a blank and have my GS chamber and install a new barrel.
Anything Im missing? Anything to pay attention to and be aware of? Those actions are a chunk of change and I would like to hear what you guys think.
Thank you all in advance.
Steve
