Ultra 7. Super impressed

Really impressed after taking my ultra 7 fresh out of atf jail out for a time at the range. If there was an affect on the group size I sure can’t tell. Sound suppression was surprisingly hearing safe on my terminus Zeus with a 24” 223 bug holes barrel. Was not expecting that. I don’t have a meter or anything but after a few rounds I wondered if it would be hearing safe without hearing protection and slid them off and it was no big deal at all. I honestly expected it to be a little hot on the ears but it just wasn’t. Is this what I can expect for the ultra 7? Will it be similar with my 6.5creedmoor barrel? Anyone else run these without ears for more rounds etc…. Just curious what to expect as I know this is a very popular can and lots of you guys have had it for years… thanks in advance

The Green Tax: Electric Vehicle Owners Shocked by Battery Replacements Costing $20,000+

Canadian Electric vehicle (EV) owners have been shocked to find out that battery replacements for their cars, especially older models, tops $20,000. One EV owner shared his experience, saying: “At the dealership, he looked it up online and said you’re not going to like this,” before delivering a bill of $15,000 plus labor and taxes.

“I don’t understand why they make the battery so expensive when you have to change it,” Phyllis Lau, who owns a 2018 KIA Soul all-electric vehicle, told CTV News Toronto.

Lau’s electric SUV came with a warranty for the battery that covers 160,000 kilometers (99,419 miles), or eight years, whichever comes first. This year, her EV clocked in more than 170,000 kilometers, meaning the warranty no longer covers the battery.

When the battery failed, Lau took the vehicle to her local dealership, where she was told a battery replacement, after labor and taxes, would come to $23,000. KIA reportedly agreed to foot half the bill, even though the EV was outside the warranty period.

“They won’t fully cover the cost,” Lau said. “They say the best they can do is half and half.”

Ken Edwardson, another Canadian EV owner, purchased a used 2011 Lincoln MKZ hybrid four years ago, and was shocked to learn that replacing the battery, also after labor and taxes, comes to about $20,000.

“At the dealership, he looked it up online and said you’re not going to like this,” Edwardson told CTV News Toronto. “It was about $15,000 for the battery plus labor and taxes.”

The electric vehicle owner added that he doesn’t feel it’s worth it to invest $20,000 in a car that is now over ten years old. “I just wasn’t expecting that kind of price to replace the battery,” he said.

ARCA or Picatinny

So in looking for some bi-pod mounting options I found a few things. One: Picatinny style, Two: ARCA, or Three: A hybrid that combines a small section of ARCA with Picatinny.

As my current stud style sling points are 3" apart on the stock fore end, the above choices/version all can fit easily on the stock. They even have a swivel style sling point as well.
Is there any pros/cons for either version??

Nerf Gun Drama

You've got to be kidding me....

My six year old got flagged by the school guidance counselor for talking about nerf guns in school. More specifically, a nerf gun shaped like a camel head that shoots light blue foam darts to emulate camel spit. Two teachers and the school resource officer confirmed that any reference to "guns" involved the nerf gun in question and there is no immediate concern. This was brought to my attention after my wife picked up our kids and was asked to report to the principals office to discuss the matter.

HOWEVER.....

"Protocol" requires a safety check at my residence by the local PD to confirm all firearms are locked away in a safe. What kind of fuckery is this? Did we repeal the fourth amendment recently and I've been under a rock?

My knowledge of the law is limited, so I instructed my wife to let them know that we'll follow up after speaking with our attorney. I haven't heard back yet, so I figured I'd post here until I get a chance to sit down with legal counsel.

This is in NC by the way. What a disgrace.

Steiner dropped on its head

I was in the process of doing a hasty last minute check of my hunting rig prior to the start of deer season yesterday. When I stood up my shirt tail caught the recoil pad and, just like that, the whole thing toppled from the table and fell about two+ feet right on to the patio cool deck pebbling. The damage involved primarily the elevation turret and the front edge of the objective barrel, along with a nick on the the front of thread protector.

Elevation turret, Steiner P4xi 4-16.jpg

I held out some hope that the damage was more cosmetic than structural. The rifle had been sighted in last season, so that was my starting point. Today I took it to my 100 yard range to get an idea of where things stood. I brought a box of Hornady 140gr ELD-Ms and shot once to see if I could get on paper at 25 yards. Good there, although the sight picture was a little fuzzy due to the Steiner's min. parallax of 50 yards. But it appeared that I might be alright. Then took it out to 100.

Shot once, dialed up 10 clicks and then back down to zero, then shot a second. Dialed right 10, left 10, then back to zero and fired the third. Packed up and left after 4 rounds.

Tough scope.
