New here, how do I prevent scams?

How do I prevent being scammed when I’m trying to buy or sell something? I’ve already dealt with some scammers here, one of which refused to facetime, but wanted to meet up in person, and gave me the identification of what I presume is not him (FFL license, was in army, CCW). I’m still not exactly sure what would have happened if I met up with him in person but he got banned just recently so I didn’t have to find out.

How do I pay or get paid? In person is nice but walking around with thousands of dollars of cash is questionable imo. And what do I do for online? In GAFS I would use a proxy service for pretty much any item over $500, and a payment method with buyer’s protection for any item below $500 for someone who’s new. This scammer had 14 positive reputation somehow.

The scammer who I dealt with initially wanted me to wire him the money but I said absolutely not. He also wanted to meet up in front of a walmart which I guess is nice because it’s public but how am I supposed to inspect the gun in front of a walmart… I asked him to meet up at an FFL and I’d pay any fees but he refused. Is that an unreasonable ask from me? What should I have done?

He also refused to do a timestamp picture but from what I understand some people on here aren’t willing to do that for some reason. That combined with refusing to facetime (and show the items to me on facetime) raised some serious red flags to me though.

16.5” Proof Barrel
Bighorn TL3
McMillan GameWarden 2.0
Hawkins BTM
Jewel Trigger

One sweet rifle!!! I enjoy building rifles but do not want a hobby to be a job. So I build, break-in and follow with an accuracy check. This rifle shot amazingly with factory Hornady ELD match. 4 round grouping pic proves its worthiness. 20 rounds down pipe.

Trudeau’s Canada: Tampons Now Available in Men’s Bathrooms at Parliament

Back in the day, when only women menstruated we had to pay for our own products. But now that men menstruate too, these products, as of this week, are mandated to be free in all Men’s washrooms in all federal workplaces including Parliament Hill —where this photo was taken today. pic.twitter.com/YuIXVZnqH9
— Linda Frum (@LindaFrum) December 12, 2023

The New York Post reports:

“This means that every female-identified, male-identified and all gender toilet rooms will need to have menstrual products,” the regulations posted to Canada’s Employment and Social Development website say.
“Unrestricted access to menstrual products better protects menstruating employees and makes sure that they feel safe to use the toilet room that best reflects their gender.”
It is up to each employer to find the funding necessary to purchase these products and disposal containers.
In a statement, Trudeau’s government said that “providing employees with access to menstrual products supports better health outcomes and workplace productivity while reducing the stigma often associated with menstruation.”

Brian Lilley writes in the Toronto Sun, “Then there’s one of those phrases again that is all about eliminating women from our language, “menstruating employees.” It’s right up there with mentruators – recently used in our Parliament – or terms like pregnant people, people who lactate or chestfeeders.”

“Today, we can’t use terms like women because according to the current thinking – but not backed up by biology – not all people who menstruate are women. Men, we are told, can have periods.”

Let me transplain this to you women:
No one knows what a woman needs more than a man dressed as a woman.
So if angry men tell you that they need your hygiene products and spaces to feel more woman-y, do what the men say.
Yes this was sarcasm.

Canada has joined Operation Prosperity Guardian in the Red Sea, and we are sending the most vital piece of military gear to help.
Weapons grade tampons.
These will be available to men fighting on the front lines, and will help us teach the enemy how to use gender language. pic.twitter.com/M0BeXtZh5v

So, you think I should buy a Tikka?!

I created a thread regarding a Remington 700 that I saw offered for sale. Several Hide members objected and suggested that I buy a Tikka instead. So I've created this thread so the other thread doesn't wander off topic.

I'm moving from an Armalite AR10 to a bolt action looking for tighter groups and less weight. Uses: Target shooting. Bench shooting. Intermediate range. High precision fun shooting. This will be a .308 because I have FAR too much invested in that caliber and I'm not starting over.

I'm a little gun shy on the Tikka b/c all I see online are a bunch of cherry-picked is 3-shot groups. I can't get a feel for whether the Super Varmint can hold a group for shots 5 - 10 in slow fire. Increased dispersion is my concern.

I like the CTR 10rd magazine, but the stock seems cheap. I like the Super Varmint slightly heavier barrel but don't care for the thin magazine. And there have been some reports of the SV having a rough internal receiver. So, is the Tikka a tack driver, and will it hold a group for more than 3 shots? LOL!

Well, this Christmas story didnt such a happy outcome.

This is really fucked up in every direction. It does sound like the 15 year old was only protecting himself.

Best Small Bore 1,000yd Bolt Gun?

Wanting a small bore bolt rifle for my fiancé and will only be used for fun poking holes in paper and will never be used for competition. I was thinking a 223 because it’s cheap to shoot and low recoil, but then started reading about the 224 Valkyrie - really liked loved everything I heard about it, but seems like it’s not very popular for some reason and I can’t find hardly any factory rifles? i read about a savage 110 in the 224 and was ready to buy one…but I guess they don’t make it anymore so that’s a little harder to do…

I’d like something that is in the $1000 or $1500 with a chassis (not including glass) and would be great if it could reach out to 1,000yd or so at its limits. This is purely something I want to be low maintenance and really reliable and fun for her to shoot.

what caliber would you guys recommend?

She’s not super scared of recoil, but I want something with low recoil so she will shoot the heck out of it and have fun.

Thoughts?

Question about a Remington 700 Model

Hello;

There is a used but nice looking Remington 700 in a LGS that I'm looking at. The barrel is marked "308 WIN 1 IN 10 LT TACTICAL" The barrel is marked 'AG' so it is a 2012 manufactured rifle. The shop says it is sitting in a McMillan MC3 Stock.

I cannot find any information on a 700 "LT TACTICAL" rifle. I keep running into posts here and elsewhere for the "Remington mod 700 LTR 308" which does not seem to be the same beast.

Does anyone know anything about the Remy model 700 LT TACTICAL with the 1/10 twist? Good shooter yes/no? Good/bad manufacturing year?
Any info appreciated!

SOLD WTS: Like New CDG Dasher Build

Coup De Grace Dasher Build

I keep trying to force myself back into PRS but to no avail. This is a new build with only 100 (maybe) rounds toward getting speeds to settle in. The barrel was chambered by a local PRS competitor and friend that owns Phantom Firearms. The rifle balances very well and shoots awesome groups without even trying.

The CDG action is incredible. I’ve owned about every action out there, and the CDG rivals the very best of them. Feeds incredibly well. I used AW mags with HRD Kits.

Specs:
Coup De Grace action - .308 bolt head (.473?) with Pivoting bolt handle. Extra bolt (black knob) and action wrench
Bartlein Straight 7.5 Twist 24” and Threaded barrel – Alpha 6mm Dasher Reamer
Trigger Tech Diamond 2 stage trigger
MDT Elite Chassis – Titanium blue including internal front weights- Light and friendly usage, but is used.

As pictured the rifle weighs 22.4 lbs on the bathroom scale.

RIFLE ONLY – no other accessories, but we can talk if you want something else included and added to the price. – Everything can be for sale :)

I want to try to sell it as is before I start piecing it out, but this is how I break down the pricing:

Barreled Action and Trigger:
CDG with extra bolt and action wrench
Bartlein Straight 24” Threaded 7.5 Twist
Trigger included -$1800

MDT Chassis with internal weights - $1300

Complete Rifle - $3100

No Trades – I need cash to fund things I can actually use :)

I’m not in a rush to sell and I believe this is priced very fair, so price is firm.
