The Badger Trekker Run-n-Gun, Saturday, August 30th, 2025, Sullivan, WI (near Milwaukee)

BT + OSC round.png

We're doing it again....

2025 will be our third year. Wow, does time ever fly! To see what we're all about, take a look at our new Badger Trekker FaceBook page, HERE. Keep a close eye on the FB page as all announcements will be made there first. Also links to BT 2023 and BT 2024 are pinned to the top so you can check out commentary and professional pics from our previous events. This is an "outlaw" event, and as such, 100% of the profits go to the Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club. Here's a good video that will give you an idea of what we do. Thanks to Who Rob for the video...

Registration for the 2025 Badger Trekker will open on April 1 at 7:00 PM CST on Practiscore. Here is the link for our Practiscore club; there are separate registrations for the 5K and 10K at the link.

The Event will again be Labor Day weekend, Saturday, August 30 at Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club.

Think of Run-n-Gun as the next step beyond USPSA, or IDPA, or 3-Gun, or..., or..., Competitors are required to carry a rifle and pistol through a 5K or 10K course, rain or shine, up and over or under obstacles, and engage targets from point-blank to 300 yards, possibly within the same stage, from uncomfortable shooting positions, while tired, physically exhausted, and possibly cold & wet.

Baker wings on a non-MDT Chassis?

I’ve been obsessed with these things ever since I shot with them on a stranger’s rifle. He of course was rocking the acc elite, but im a bit more budget constrained so I have a solus 17” chassis. MDT states “any stock or chassis with an M-Lok compatible forend,” so i am sure they will bolt up, but will the vertical positioning be similar to when they are used natively on MDT chassis’?

There’s two ways to find out…either find a picture of baker wings on a solus (im struggling), or buy them and risk it for the biscuit.

Anyone here have baker wings on a non-MDT chassis?

Edit: this may have been better suited for The Armory, but here we are

Did Hornady Change 147 ELD-M Bullet?

I have a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor and my rifle really shoots the 147 grain Hornady ELD-M bullets well. I recently bought a new box of 100 bullets and I got pretty bad results with them. My rifle typically averages < 0.5 MOA for 5-shot groups with them and the new box of bullets averaged ~0.7 MOA. It was literally like shooting a different rifle.

The bullets from the new box that shoot poorly have a more translucent ballistic tip (on the right below) and are about 4/1000 of an inch shorter in the base to ogive dimension (according to my comparator) than the bullets that shot well (see below).

Has anyone else noticed this?

Our tax dollars at work

I fucking hate how carelessly our hard-earned money is spent by those who don't have to account for it.

Normally it's wasted on stupid-assed social programs, dumped into mega rich colleges and even unnecessary use it or lose it mindset.

After oak leaf shedding season here in Florida, many of my idiotic neighbors take their leaves and blow them into the storm drains.
You might say, "well, that's just fucking dumb." Of course you'd be correct. Not only is it dumb, but it's lazy and illegal.
Dumping those leaves into the storm drains allows them to stack up and block the pipes. For those unaware, oak leaves don't float down the lazy, pretty river like a child's paper boat. They sink to the bottom and begin layering up. Mix those leaves with dirt and oils from the road and pretty soon you have a dam built up. Hitting them with pressure only serves to strengthen their resolve to stay put.

Enter: this guy.

The Suckerater 2000. A big, diesel powered vacuum with a super long flexible hose.
With the 2025 storm season (and general rainy season here) rapidly approaching, Hillsborough County is taking the let's fix it before it's broke approach.
Fortunately, they do this every year at this time.
He was out here yesterday sucking out the leaves.
Boss man ran the camera down the pipe this morning and had him come back to complete the job.

Would it have been better and cheaper to do it right the first time?
Of course.
However, it is being corrected.

This is the kind of stuff I want my tax dollars paying for.

New Game LR Varmint

received_3123778021177752.jpeg

Last year I found a small match held in a nearby town. They shot a game they called Long Range .22 Varmint if I recall.

Was fairly simple. They shoot 10rnds per relay in 5min relays.

Each shooter gets one steel target per relay at a single distance. The distances are 140yds, 160yds, 185yds and 205yds.
received_726694688321992.jpeg

The target is approximately 12" square with an engraved 8" circle and a flapper plate in the shape of a gopher.

The target(s) is scored and painted in between relays.

Gophers - 5pts
8" Circle - 3pts
12" Plate - 1pt

8 of the 10 shots are scored. So your best 8 for score. Reason being the novice level shooters get basically two chances to shoot sighters for wind and boy do we have wind here typically.

So 8 hits all on gopher means a perfect score is 160 points (40pts x 4 relays).

Obviously, you can always ramp up the difficulty. Either giving no points outside of the 8" ring or all shots are scored or reducing the time to shoot the relay.

They shot from benches but it could be done prone. Was pretty laid back. And the scoring was very easy looking at impacts on fresh paint. Line breakers were scored best line scoring and nobody scored their own plates.
received_558948625554624.jpeg

They charged a very nominal fee to come play. And it was for bragging rights. I was happily surprised with how well it ran. The whole event took 1hr 45min.

No classes or divisions that I recall. Just come and shoot. These pics were taken last year in April. I had a job that made it impossible to make the late afternoon weekday matches so I don't have anymore pics sadly.

Thought maybe you guys would like to try the format out yourselves with your own steel.

Precision Rifle Gear Accutac WB-4 vs Atlas bt10 for prone shooting

Europtic has a really nice sale on accutac bipods.

I currently have an atlas and a harris. I'm wondering if its worth it to grab the WB-4 with the much wider and lower stance for strictly prone shooting.

Id say 80% of my long-distance shooting is prone and I'm wondering if you all think I would see a noticeable increase in stability with the wb-4 vs the atlas in this specific scenario.

Thanks!

New 300 PRC

A few months back I got the wild hair to order a new Masterpiece Arms 300 PRC. I know there were some mixed reviews on here, but I went ahead and did it. It finally came in last week, so I went out this morning to try a few loads. So far I am very pleased with the rifle. It seems to be well built and the chassis is perfectly fine for me.

The following loads all seemed to be pretty mild based on what others had posted. I just arbitrarily selected -.030” off for a starting point. I think the Berger 215’s will shoot much better once I have time to work with them. I might go back out tomorrow to do some more work and stretch it out. All in all happy that nothing shot over 3/4”. I think it’s going to be a shooter.
