VV powders & temp stability

Have you all seen the new video VV put out? Supposedly their 500 series powders are more stable than their 100 series. I can't imagine that being true with the 500 being double base and the 100 single base.

Perhaps things got lost in translation and nobody on their team was able to verify their info prior to putting it out.

Aero Precision Solus Bravo

So I’ve been lurking here for a bit and reading. I went to a local gun store and had a chance to look at both the Bravo Model and the competition model. The Bravo in 308 is on sale for $1,300.00 I really liked that specific. It felt balanced to me the bolt was pretty smooth and the trigger wasn’t bad. I know it can be replaced with a trigger tech or timmney.

I also understand that the barrel is a Ballistics Advantage so it’s okay it not a high end barrel. One of the gun guys at the counter who is into PRS said they have sold about 11 of them in both 308 and 6.5 CM and the guys that have bought them have had positive experiences with the Solus.

Now a salesman is exactly that regardless of commission or not. Those of you who have a Solus what is your opinion on them.

The last bolt gun I owned was probably 10 years ago or so. I had a Rem 700 LTR in 308. I hane a 15 1/2 inch LOP so I put it in an AICS Chassis system from Mile High Shooting as they used to be a sponsor here. It’s been so long since I was a member here that the Mega 10 AR was the latest and greatest. I had a NF NXS that I also bought from another site sponsor so it’s been a while and a lot has changed. I sold that Rem 700 set up years ago.

So those of you that own them what do you think? I will probably end up with a FFP of some sort like a Razor for and optic and an Atlas bipod or the likes. and with a 1:10 twist 20 inch barrel there are plenty of 308 ammo options besides FGGM like the Hornady ELD Match.

New .224 Weatherby magnum

Has anyone had the chance to pick up a new Weatherby rifle in 224 Weatherby? With the new ammo offerings made for the 1:8 twist it seems like quite an interesting opportunity for people who want to shoot varmints and big game with a .224 cal i suspect there will be no problem for this cartridge to take a deer. If you have experience with it I would love to hear about it.

Buying NV based on FOM is like buying a car based on the monthly payment

This FOM bullshit is out of control. Literally everywhere you look they're trying to upcharge the ever living shit out of you for shit like FOM of > 1800 FOM of <2200, etc.

It's bullshit yet its so widely used that people somehow think its a standard, let alone that higher FOM = better. Hell, I don't think half of the people selling it even know this.

FOM is bullshit. It's basically just 2 numbers on the spec sheet (signal to noise SNR and LP which is basically just the resolution) multiplied together. That's it. It ignores every other single variable on the spec sheet. It includes nothing but those 2 factors, but alas, let's sell NV based on those. It's dumb as shit and will only get you to pay more for tubes that have a higher combination of those two factors while ignoring the possibility of absolute garbage performance from other aspects. Total 'sell the sizzle' aspect bullshit.

I've seen high FOM tubes that were complete dogshit. Why? Complete shit halo and a EBI somewhere in the 2.5 range when it should be as close to 0.1 as possible. I've seen 'average' FOM tubes that were fantastic.

Also, make sure on binos that the specs (not just the fucking FOM!) are as close as possible between the two tubes, otherwise weird shits going to go on. Get the spec sheet of the unit you are buying/looking to buy and go from there; dont fall for this 'itll have at least a 2000 FOM' bullshit because all that means is that the SNR and LP will multiply to at least 2000 but any other specs can be literally anything.

BUt IT haS a HiGH FoM!!!! Yeah and that v6 Mustang you bought for only 300$ a month has a shitty engine and a 23.4% interest rate.

Learn to read spec sheets. Don't buy the FOM.

PRS Talk Moving from Southern CA to AZ... where are the matches out here?

Hi y'all recently relocated from California to Arizona. (super excited to be in a more 2A welcoming state)

I shoot PRS Centerfire / Rimfire + NRL22, I'm used to shooting at least 3-4 times a month so it would be great to link with people who also love shooting!

I'm wondering if someone could give me the ropes of where the matches are / where people usually practice as well... (always looking for local mentors 😁)

Any info/help is appreciated if you don't feel comfortable posting on this thread you can always send me a DM and we can talk on there.

Thank you!
Marvin

Sig P320 Paranoia Setting in.

Last summer I bought a Sig p320 X-Ten Comp pistol to pack around in bear country. I still get out a bit, but at 69 years old I went with the comp and a dot. Last week I added 26/70 grit to the frame. Here's a pic:
sig.JPG

The damn thing shoots pretty good and I am using Extreme Penetrator bullets so I get plenty of gas to operate the comp. I actually kind of like the thing. Up until recently I haven't really been to concerned about the uncommanded discharge chatter. Well, it looks like Sig can no longer place the blame on the user. Uncommanded discharge is apparently a real thing, albeit very rare. My Sig also has a trigger job by MCarbo consisting of springs and polishing.

I have the opportunity to trade it at the LGS toward a FN 510 Tactical. I know nothing about FN, never even shot one. Online reviews tend to show the 510 is GTG. I do know there are some pretty decent comps being made for the 510T if I want to tame it down. Here's a pic:
fn-510-tactical-10mm-auto-47in-fde-pistol-221-rounds-1794045-1.jpg

If you were walking around in my moccasins, would you just keep the Sig? Am I being paranoid? Also, a buddy of mine tells me that if I go with a different gun, ditch the optic. Shit happens to fast to have a dot in the way. He's a Grandmaster USPSA Production shooter with good vision. I am a former USPSA Limited shooter (GM) with so-so vision, but I still have a good index.

I hope I get some decent opinions on this subject...being the pit and all. ;)

Another option for Unertl M40A1 clone mount coming soon

I have no dog in the fight, but stumbled across this group out of NC that are former USMC guys that are coming out with a replica Unertl M40A1 mount. D&D Gunworks and Refinishing is the group. Looks like they have been working on it for some time and will have something out sooner than later. For those still searching for a respectable and cost efficient solution, this might check several boxes.

Updated advice on optics at or under $1500

Looking for advice and opinions on a scope purchase with a budget up to around 1500 bucks. I've never paid that much for a scope so ie..I've never had a "good" scope before. I'm looking for something that the glass is good enough to see mirage at distances no further than 1000 yards. The most distance I usually shoot is under 800 yards. A little more capability wouldn't hurt. Not looking for anything with more than 25x. I've drove myself nuts looking through reviews, reading, and trying to decipher what the best options are. Seems like a 34 mm tube is preferred and 56mm objectives seem to be the latest and greatest. Tracking seems to be important but with some of the fancier reticles with elevation in the reticle then Idk if it matters so much anymore. Please feel free to share some knowledge to help a fellow make an informed decision. Thanks all in advance.

Rimfire Rhineland Arms Scorpion Stock for Savage rimfire rifle

Price is shipped to the lower 48 (USPS most likely). If insurance is desired, it is at the buyer’s cost. Forms of payment are discreet PayPal Friends and Family (no comments) or a USPS money order. Payment must clear before shipment. Price is net to me, if using PayPal Friends and Family the buyer must pay the fees. Stock posted elsewhere.

Rhineland Arms Scorpion Stock for Savage rimfire rifles. Has aftermarket bottom metal kit and accessory picatinny rail. Per the website it fits all current 22lr, 22Mag, and 17hmr versions and all barrel diameters including the MK2, M93, FVSR, etc. I had it in an FVSR. The stock was a huge improvement over the factory stock. There is a crack, pictured, in the wood between the magazine opening and the trigger opening. The only reason I am selling is I found an incredible deal on an MDT LSS chassis. - $130 shipped.
