Review Walther PDP Pro 5" Polymer

I post about pistols from time to time and every once in a while do a review. My background is that I have been shooting USPSA since the early 2000s and hit G in 2006. Since then, one of the things that I do for a living is I am one of the owners of a retail firearms store with an attached shooting range. We sell and rent guns to the public. To me pistols are very subjective in that what feels good to me, may not feel good to someone else.

At some point in the last year, I did a kind of review on pistols and I don't really make an argument about any of the subjective stuff. I do however tend to comment on reliability. I think at this point, I am a pretty good source on it because 1) I have extensively shot most full frame production pistols in the US, more than a little bit. 2) We have a rental fleet with more than 500 firearms in it and we keep data on when they go out of service to include things like how often we have to clean them, how often and what kind of repairs we have to make and how often we have real failures.

About a year ago, I got to shoot a Walther PDP Pro with the Parker Mountain Machine comp and I really enjoyed it. So I bought two Walthers so that I could cannibalize them and made one for myself. This particular pistol now officially has over 50K rounds fired through it and I wanted to detail the problems that I had with it. When I first put the pistol together, I went to the range and in the first magazine I had two failures to feed shooting 115 grain Winchester white box range ammo. I immediately got aggravated and was looking at the pistol, the things I installed and saw the instructions for the comp. It clearly stated that the pistol functions with 124 grain or heavier ammunition and that 115 grain was not recommended. So I have now shot another 49,980 some odd rounds through it without a single failure. I have not had to replace a single part, there was not a single break or failure. Over the 50,000 rounds fired, I cleaned the pistol after the first 500 round range session because it was kind of covered with grease in some spots that smelled bad when it heated up. Since that cleaning, I have not cleaned the pistol once. (I have cleaned the end of the surefire multiple times and the optics multiple times).

I went back and checked our rental fleet where we have several PDPs including 5 and 4 inch frame pistols in both the normal and Pro versions. They do get cleaned every 5k rounds (got to keep the customers happy) but none of them have had a failure of any kind just like my personal pistols. I never thought that I would write this but Walther has moved into my personal S Tier of pistols in terms of reliability to join most Glocks and almost all of the hammer fired H&K pistols.

.308, 2000MR, and 175/178/185 Nodes and Loads!

Ok .308 folks, I am ready to dive back into reloading after a decade of factory ammo (FGMM/PRIME), in anticipation of our local match season about to start.

One problem: I am very short on time and won't be able to OCW.
So I plan to load @x120 of one specific load and shoot x20 for chrono+zero, and use the rest for a match. That's all the time I have.

So, my Question: Are there any favored or predictable nodes and loads for 175smk and 185 jugs with 2000MR I should start with?
I'm feeling safe about starting with:

46.0 gr 2000MR with 185 jugs at 2.83", and 47.0 2000MR for the 175smk at 2.83", since Alliant publishes 47.7 for 175smk at 2.8".

I have a 24" M40 Bartlein 1-10 twist 5R on an Impact barreled action from Altus, and it shot PRIME 175 and FGMM 175/185s well last season. I have not yet measured the shoulder length, but I'm using AICS and MDT mags with plates in them, so 2.83" should be my max OAL. Most of my brass made it home and is clean and ready to size, and I have 8lbs of 2000MR and will be using CCI200 primers in the FGMM and PRIME x1 shot brass and some new Lapua.

It sucks to have so little time for reloading, but kids, work, life, etc.--I'm lucky to shoot at all these days. I'm hoping you folks using similar 2000MR 175/178/185 loads will post up some numbers or cautionary tales. My endgame here by batch reloading without OCW instead of buying more factory ammo is to gain the extra fps that 2000MR gives over Varget and factory boxes.

TIA HIDE!

Suppressors Please help educate me on .357 cans

Hey Guys,

So I picked up a lever action .357 mag as a fun steel target gun and now I want to put a can on it. I am pretty confused about what 7.62, 36 cal, 9mm cans working with .357. Form what I gather .45 can is the proper guaranteed to work way to go but of course I don't own any .45 cans. I recently saw with a quick google search that that someone was running an Enticer Ti on a .357 lever gun and by chance I have an Enticer Ti but im to scared to try it as logically .357" is larger than .308" I also have a 9mm can and these seem to be alot more accepted for 357 use but still technically 9mm is a hair smaller than 357. I also have a Hux Flow Range 36 in jail.

So I guess my question is what is the proper size can for a 357? and can you get away with a 36 cal can or 9mm can?

Ruger precision rifle ejector issues

So I have an issue where my ejector plunger on the bolt seems stuck. It was ejecting rough today at the range so I tore it down to clean everything and I pushed the plunger down on the ejector and now it won't come back up thus not ejecting brass anymore.

How do I get access to the plunger to take it apart and clean etc? Also do you just apply oil to the plunger to keep it lubed?

Sig P320 Paranoia Setting in.

Last summer I bought a Sig p320 X-Ten Comp pistol to pack around in bear country. I still get out a bit, but at 69 years old I went with the comp and a dot. Last week I added 26/70 grit to the frame. Here's a pic:
sig.JPG

The damn thing shoots pretty good and I am using Extreme Penetrator bullets so I get plenty of gas to operate the comp. I actually kind of like the thing. Up until recently I haven't really been to concerned about the uncommanded discharge chatter. Well, it looks like Sig can no longer place the blame on the user. Uncommanded discharge is apparently a real thing, albeit very rare. My Sig also has a trigger job by MCarbo consisting of springs and polishing.

I have the opportunity to trade it at the LGS toward a FN 510 Tactical. I know nothing about FN, never even shot one. Online reviews tend to show the 510 is GTG. I do know there are some pretty decent comps being made for the 510T if I want to tame it down. Here's a pic:
fn-510-tactical-10mm-auto-47in-fde-pistol-221-rounds-1794045-1.jpg

If you were walking around in my moccasins, would you just keep the Sig? Am I being paranoid? Also, a buddy of mine tells me that if I go with a different gun, ditch the optic. Shit happens to fast to have a dot in the way. He's a Grandmaster USPSA Production shooter with good vision. I am a former USPSA Limited shooter (GM) with so-so vision, but I still have a good index.

I hope I get some decent opinions on this subject...being the pit and all. ;)
