    Gunsmithing work holding while fluting

Re: work holding while fluting We use a spin/index fixture with a center on the other end. You need to support the barrel in the middle to keep chatter down. I normaly do a light cut and then rotate to the next flute to induce as little stress as possible. A radius side cutter seems slightly...

    .260 Pros/Cons?

Re: .260 Pros/Cons? In our area the 260 is second in poularity only to the 308 for tactical shooting. A great 1K cartridge! As far as a hunting round the 243 and 308 have a 30-40 year head start on the 260, so that might explain that end of the spectrum.

Any Win M70 Experts - Question about a pre '64

Re: Any Win M70 Experts - Question about a pre '64 Does it still have a metal butt or has it been cut for a recoil pad? Cut stocks hurt reasale value to collectors. Any extra holes also really kill resale.

    Remington 40x rifles

Re: Remington 40x rifles You can build a custom on a 700 that is a lot better rifle than an out of the box 40X. 40Xs have no truing at all and they still have a crappy Remington barrel.

308 168 grain bthp vs 175 grain smk

Re: 308 168 grain bthp vs 175 grain smk Just go to the 175s for everything. Save the 168s for short range days. I've seen plenty of 168s keyhole at 900 yards and pretty much 100% at 1K from a 308.

    Gunsmithing Replace Sear Spring-Ruger 77 MRKII 30-06

Re: Replace Sear Spring-Ruger 77 MRKII 30-06 A simple angle change, reduction of engagement and a lighter spring make these triggers outstanding. And good gunsmith should be able to do it. I've done hundreds of them. Any gunsmith not able to do probably isn't smart enought to be a real gunsmith.
