National Vietnam Veterans Day

To those of us old enough to remember those dark days of watching Vietnam in color on the nightly news with Walter Cronkite or Huntley/Brinkley, they were sobering moments. It was the first war brought into America's living rooms. Many of us know those who served, those who died, or were injured.

As a veteran of the Vietnam era and having served with Nam vets, I know how America turned their back on us. We were treated far better overseas than here in America.

Never forget those who served America at a time America turned away from those who served.

Opinion time, Some Market Research

Let's talk mounts, lots of discussion on mounts. I have been preaching 1.375" to 1.54" as optimal for both LE and Competition, head up, works great.

So will all the new scopes, new main tube sizes, give me your opinion,

1. Your Top 3 One Piece scope mounts out there

2. What would you like to see, wish list me or tell me what is missing in your opinion

3. Sizes, where do you see the industry going and where would you put your focus if someone gave you a mount company. Choices include:
  • Maintube: 36mm
    Cant / Bias: 0 MOA & 20 MOA
  • Maintube: 35mm
    Cant / Bias: 0 MOA & 20 MOA
  • Maintube: 34mm
    Cant / Bias: 0 MOA & 20 MOA
  • Maintube: 30mm
    Cant / Bias: 0 MOA & 20 MOA
Tell me your top choice to 3, or top 2 even that would be best. Especially today looking at the scopes. A lot more working with 0 MOA than before, but 20MOA still rules the roost.

Thanks All

Justice Joseph Story on our 2nd Amendment...

Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 3:§§ 1890--91

1833

§ 1890. The importance of this article will scarcely bedoubted by any persons, who have duly reflected upon thesubject. The militia is the natural defence of a free countryagainst sudden foreign invasions, domestic insurrections, and domestic usurpations of power by rulers. It is againstsound policy for a free people to keep up large militaryestablishments and standing armies in time of peace, bothfrom the enormous expenses, with which they are attended, and the facile means, which they afford to ambitiousand unprincipled rulers, to subvert the government,or trample upon the rights of the people. The right of thecitizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered,as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offersa strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrarypower of rulers; and will generally, even if theseare successful in the first instance, enable the people toresist and triumph over them. And yet, though this truthwould seem so clear, and the importance of a well regulatedmilitia would seem so undeniable, it cannot be disguised, that among the American people there is a growingindifference to any system of militia discipline, and astrong disposition, from a sense of its burthens, to be ridof all regulations. How it is practicable to keep the peopleduly armed without some organization, it is difficult to see. There is certainly no small danger, that indifference maylead to disgust, and disgust to contempt; and thus graduallyundermine all the protection intended by this clauseof our national bill of rights.

Rest Easy Gunny

Thank you for making "real" Naval officers. Not the stuff we get today. I shall never forget Ensign Seeger and how you helped her.

In addition, you had a dual Military Role as Col., then Brig. General "Chappy" in the"Iron Eagle" series.

Rest Easy. You deserve it.

Entry Level Rifle Choice

Hello all. Looking for opinions from the more experienced. I have been a pistol shooter for many years and like to think I’m relatively decent. I understand the fundamentals of shooting. However, I have little to no precision rifle experience and have a strong desire to learn some long range techniques and skills. I plan to take a few classes and maybe even shoot a match or two down the road. I’d like to stay around $2000 +/- to start, including an optic. Pretty certain I’m going to go with something chambered in 6.5 CM, but I’m undecided on the actual rifle. What would you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance!

Sidearms & Scatterguns Pistol options under $2500

Ok fellas, I’ve lost the itch to shoot pistol, it just doesn’t do it for me anymore. To fix that I’m buying something new to get me back into it.

Been looking at :
Staccato P
CZ TS2 Orange
Platypus

Other than that I’m not sure where to look. Trying to keep it under $2500

Any opinions or options I should look at?

Going to just be a fun gun so I don’t have to fit into a certain class

Update #2..I think my can is messed up…Weird day at range

Update #2 FML

Two different rifles with different brakes
IMG_6317.jpeg

Turns out the supressor was the issue, not the rifle or scope. BUT - there are no baffle strikes on supressor. Like none at all. Holes in papers are all round. None unstable. It still is only happening with supers, not subs. Barrel is still free floated with supressor on. What gives?

new (gen 1) ruger American ranch 300blk. Subs shot pretty dang well. The issue is that I was double grouping with supers REAL bad. Like 7 moa in fact with two different handloads

1. Everything is properly torqued
2. Sandman S (no baffle strikes)
3. Purely horizontal
4. Subs shot good groups
5. Checked free-float, good
6 two different handloads (both did it)
7 about 50 rounds through it

The first thing I thought of was the stock hitting barrel. I took special care to ensure I wasn’t loading the stock. I think the issue is that I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. This is my only bolt action without a chassis and have never gotten results quite like this.

Do these number look right to you? 223 reloading data.

I’ve had a bear of time getting loads correct for a 223 rem . ES/SD has been through the roof. Tried a new process. Not sure if I’m working brass too hard , or if you have any other pointers. Open to suggestions if you see a problem. My chamber measures 1.460” on my comparator for once fired brass (it’s on the short end). On virgin brass, with a loaded 75 eldm, neck OD is .248”.

223 brass ( starline once fired, decapped, tumbled, annealed):
Neck ID: .225”
Neck OD: .252”
Headspace comparator: 1.460”

After FL resizing w/ .247” bushing:
Neck ID: .220”
Neck OD: .246
Headspace comparator: 1.458”

After running mandrel (.223”):
Neck ID: .222”
Neck OD: .247”
Headspace comparator: 1.458”

Any pointers?
