I've been mechanically inclined all my life and have never had any problems working on, or modifying my own guns.
About 4 months ago a coworker brought me a Rem 60 that belonged to his friend, I fixed it. A month later he brought me his model 60, which I fixed.
Tonight he brought me something I can't identify, so I'm reaching out to y'all to pick your brains.
It's a single shot rifle; Mod. R-6 22 long rifle imported by F.I.F. Miami, FL from Taiyo-Japan. My online searches come back with Remington, Winchester, Savage. It has a brown plastic stock that's been broken in half and glued back together and missing action screw. Nothing I can't handle, but I do like to source correct parts, when possible. Damn, I need a Numrich catalog.

I have an Athlon Eres BTR Gen 2 HD 4.5-27. It's a great scope. Anyway, I zeroed it in today (after swapping rifles) and set up my zero stop past 0, at about -7 which is -3 mils.

Does anyone else do this? I just felt like, and I'm not sure why, it would be handy to have it go negative "just in case".

Is this stupid?

Kelbly Atlas Action with Brux 28" straight (1.25") barrel. Sits in XLR Element chassis with full length Arca rail. Jewel tuned trigger. Also your choice of Atlas PSR bipod or Accutac SR-5 bipod. 2 BR mags. If you purchase the rifle and you want them, there's a Brux MTU 26" barrel in 6.5 Creed (with 1900 rds through it) and a Krieger Heavy Varmint 6BR with 1900 rds. They probably aren't worth much but they were both shooting fine when I pulled them so probably still some life there. If you take the whole works I'll send the barrel vise and action wrench also. I recently just completed a Aero M5 18 inch in .308. Aero ultralight canter mount (I get really good discounts on Aero stuff) and bough a Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50. I didn't want to break the bank on a scope that I wasn't going to be really reaching out and frankly, its probably too much scope for the rifle, but I digress. I am looking for recommendations for flip caps that weren't the normal Vortex , I will charge you your first born for some plastic, brand of mounts. I know there has to be some great ones out there that aren't $59 for the objective alone. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Who is the greater danger?

Shooting last Sunday. Conditions: rain visible in scope - moderate rate; 49 F ; 68 % RH; 28.24 inHg absolute. Bullet: Hornady, .308 230 gr A-Tip, 2700 FPS, barrel 1:9, scope height 2 inches. The rain was not falling straight down, I needed about 0.4 right most of the time - range 0.2 to 0.8 right, it was pretty easy to read the rain and estimate the windage.

Computed trajectory at 1k is 7.7 mils. Actual trajectory 7.1 mils, I shot 25 rounds - 7.1 is a consistent number. Using Applied Ballistics on Android. Shooting was from a 60 F building (yeah, I know I'm a slacker). No rain drops on muzzle. I can't explain where the 0.6 mils came from. I know about rain drops on the muzzle causing a bump, that is not the case here.

Any ideas?

Just getting to night coyote hunting. Picked up a cheap sightmark wraith to get me by until my pulsar c50 comes in (wasn't sure it'd be here in time for our night coyote season starts). Figured I'd throw the wraith on a backup rifle in case somebody wants to go with me and they don't have NV. I've heard a thermal scanner is pretty handy to have but seems like you need to drop 3-4k on one for it to be even be worth a crap. Would something similar to a pvs14 fill my needs of spotting coyotes 4-500y out before they get right up on my call? I've thought a NV monocular on a ballistic helmet would be pretty nice especially for driving around at night looking for coyotes to go after. Thanks in advance for the help.
