Rifle Scopes "Best" LPVO

Hi Everyone, still a relative newbie here. I read over this thread which had a lot of good info but things sometimes change and its a little old (2018).

I'm looking for the "best" LPVO to put on an all Aero carbine I built for general use/carbine classes/Run n Gun's, etc... I state Aero just so we know it's not a match rifle or LMT/DD rifle, etc...

I know "best" is subjective and I'm unlikely to find one with all of these features, but if you know an optic which meet most of them, (but might be weak in one or more areas), please share.

Desired Features:
Lightweight yet Rugged/Durable for field use.
True 1x
Clear Glass
Super Bright illuminated reticle for red dot-like performance
At least 1-6x, preferably 1-8x or 1-10x
SFP or FFP, I like the idea of being able to range with the reticle, but most longer shots would be at full magnification so a SFP w/BDC would work OK
Robust throw lever for quick magnification changes (Preferably using gross motor skills. I've had the throw levers on two strikes eagles break, loosen etc...)
Good eye box at higher magnification
Preferably mil rad over over moa adjustments, especially if FFP

I will offer this, assume cost is not an issue. I am willing to buy once/cry once. The best optic I own is a Nightforce Nx8 on my Tikka and while it may not be as good as their ATACR line or other higher end optics you all might use, it works for me. My second best optic is a VCog 1x8 on my AR10 and I like it, but it's heavy AF. While I'm willing to pay for quality, I don't need to buy a Mercedes if a Lexus or Toyota have the features I need.

Thanks in advance for any insights and opinions

Eley or Lapua?

So I'm ready to lot test ammo for my Gen 2 Vudoo. My dilemma is that I've got some Tenex that the gun loves and I have some Midas and Center X that shoots so-so. Killough's will only test Eley to 50m and of course Lapua tests out to 100. Obviously, I want the best bang for my buck at distance. Can the magic lot of Lapua be found that can shoot as well as the Eley? The few dollars difference between Midas and Tenex isn't a deterrent.

Desantis investigating Vaccines

Area 419 Micrometer Adjustable Sizing Dies

ZERO M-Series Sizing Die Breakdown

KEY FEATURES

  • Micrometer Adjustable Headspace/Shoulder Bump
  • Precision Ground Expander Mandrels (all dies ship with a .002 neck tension mandrel, more to be available Q1 2023)
  • Full-Length Neck to Extractor Sizing
  • Spring Ejection for Spent Primers
  • Replaceable Steel Decap Pins
  • Reamer Cut to Exacting Dimensions for a TRUE Size (no more sticky bolt after the second firing)
  • Hydraulic Shoulder Pressure Relief
  • 100% Made in AMERICA

The ZERO M-Series Sizing die is the culmination of years of testing, research, trial, error, frustration, and finally, discoveries.

As Reloaders, we knew we needed a die to do certain things, but as the makers of the ZERO Reloading Press, we also learned a huge amount about what other dies did well or did poorly, and what our customers were struggling with on a daily basis.

With the ZERO M-Series Sizing Die, we think we have produced a sizing die that is capable of producing the finest, match-grade ammunition, as well as being user-friendly to new and learning reloaders.

Sizing brass doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to require years of trial and error. It just needs equipment, made with the end-user in mind, designed with the understanding that a die is part of an ecosystem of parts. A press, a die, the brass, the rifle – they all have to work together and be designed with one another in mind. This is that. Introducing, the ZERO M-Series Sizing Die.

Question about my first gun.

Hi,

I hope you can help me with my decision. I never had a long-range rifle and I am buying my first gun. I wanted a 6.5 Creedmoor because of the accuracy but now I am thinking of picking up a .308 because it is way cheaper (gun and ammo) in my country (6.5 creed guns are very limited). + the longest shooting range in our country is 800 meters or 875 yards. So I don't really need long-range caliber or do I for that kind of length?

So my question is because I am on a budget and for that length, is it ok to buy a Bergara rifle in .308 and put it on MDT chassis?

And the next question is because I am putting the barrel on different chassis is the barrel on all B14 Bergaras the same? Our local store has Bergara B14 sporter varmint 24" or Bergara B14 HMR...because sporter varmint is way cheaper.

I won't be shooting precision competitions. Probably only steel plates.

Thanks!

Help me decide budget long range scope

Hi guys. Im currently looking for budget scopes with around 5-25x56 specs. (4-20, 3-18 etc is OK, but i prefer 5x zoom or more.)
I can currently score the following scopes for about the same cost, where the Arken is a tad cheaper.
  1. Burris XTR 2 5-25x50 second hand: most expensive new, but have the possibility to buy second hand for around 700 USD)
  2. Vortex Viper PST gen 2 5-25x50 Second hand: may have the possibility to buy second hand for around 700 USD. New price 1300 USD in my country.
  3. Vector Continental Tac FFP 4-24x56 (Schott glass, Minox turrets, lifetime warranty). Price 750 USD in my country
  4. Arken Optics EP5 5-25x56 MIL FFP (ED glass, lifetime warranty) Price 600 USD in my country
What would you do?
Ps. ive had more expensive scopes before, S&B PM2 5-25x56, 3-20x50, Zeiss 6-24x72 etc. I know I cant expect the same quality, but for my usage now i think these budget options would do just fine for long range target practice and some small game hunting etc.

Reasons people compete, and what grows the sport.

I was reading the AG Cup thread, and decided to start a new thread instead of sidetracking that one.

I have been shooting competitions since SHC at Rifles Only in 2005. There have been a lot of people who have come and gone, and it's sad to certain extent since I've met a lot of good people/friends who I have lost contact with as they moved away from the sport. This is kind of akin to your high school buddies that you may only keep in touch with one or two of them. The reasons many compete at local or at the national level is to see friends and do something fun. I think group of shooters makes up at least 50% of the competitors if not more. We all want to do as well as we can and improve, but friendship in the guiding force. I've seen many of the top 10-20 shooters came and go after they burn out and find another hobby. I have 2 Top 5 finishes, and a bunch of top 20 finishes in the PRS over the last several years since I decided to step it up a notch before I get too old. But to make it more fun again I am going to gas gun this year so I can be more layed back and spend time with buddies, competing with the other 2-3 mentally impaired people (like me) at each match.

The thing that I have seen grow the sport is club matches. Either NRL 22, PRS 22, PRS centerfire sanctioned club matches, or even "outlaw" matches. It's a lot easier for someone to borrow a loaner rifle, or a buddies gun, and travel a few hours to shot a match. They can spend $200-$300 on ammo and match fee and be back in their own bed that night. You have to have people overcome the cost of entry by letting them try before they buy. I remember the first custom competition rig I bought, a trued Remington 700 built by HD Rifles (that's a whole story in of itself). It was hard to make myself spend $2500, but I did in the end which started me on this journey. Since I have time vested in this sport (and have spent enough to buy several new houses) i don't really think twice about adding a new rifle to the safe. And after ROing the PRS 22 Finale the last 2 years, I believe 22 precision rifle matches are the fastest growing segment at the moment. The match grew by 1/3 from the year before a few weeks back.

Just some thoughts as I read the other thread.
