M40A1 Unertl/MST-100 10x Parallax Question

I recently aquired my unicorn M40A1 from @gregv and understand there is a lot of nuance to using the Unert/MST-100 10X scopes. Being that I don't have readily available access to ranges over 300 yards, I do most of my shooting at 100-300. I know the suggested parallax setting is either 200 or 300 yards, and I know that if set to 300 the site picture at 100 is blurry as hell (which it currently is), but my question is: If I set the parallax for say 100 or 150 (I have a Redfield Revolution Tac 3x9 on my SSA M40 that is fixed parallax at 150y and is clear at all ranges) will the site picture be blurry at further distances? 300 yards and beyond? I have not had the opportunity to go to the range to try adjusting the parallax yet, so thanks for any help in advance.

Follow up question,
Does anyone know the correct Butler Creek caps that fit this scope?
Thank you,
BG

Texas Beats Silicon Valley: Federal Court Upholds Law Banning Social Media Censorship

A federal appeals court has upheld a Texas law allowing users to sue social media platforms in the event of wrongful account suspension, in a win for defenders of free speech online.

The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit means the Texas bill, which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott last year, is likely to end up before the Supreme Court, which will provide a final determination on whether social media companies have a right to censor their users.

For now, that “right” of censorship has been firmly rejected by the Fifth Circuit.

“Today we reject the idea that corporations have a freewheeling First Amendment right to censor what people say,” wrote U.S. Circuit Court Judge Andrew Oldham.

Representatives of the tech giants argue that forcing them to carry certain types of speech is itself a First Amendment violation. If this argument is valid, it means the First Amendment, oddly enough, provides corporations an unlimited right to censor.

This in turn makes it possible for the government the ability to censor citizens by proxy, demanding platforms suppress certain viewpoints, as the Biden Administration did at height of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The platforms are not newspapers. Their censorship is not speech,” wrote Oldham, rejecting the platforms’ argument that they have a First Amendment right to censor.

“The implications of the platforms’ argument are staggering. On the platforms’ view, email providers, mobile phone companies, and banks could cancel the accounts of anyone who sends an email, makes a phone call, or spends money in support of a disfavored political party, candidate, or business,” continued Oldham.

If the Texas law is upheld by the Supreme Court, it will give citizens of that state — and others, which are likely to follow suit — the right to sue social media companies for the restoration of their accounts. The Texas attorney general will also be empowered to sue social media companies on users’ behalf.

Desert Tech Saga Continues?

Interesting article. Not sure what is true or not, people tend to see a bucket of money and will do anything to grab some of it. Then again, people also abuse their kids and do strange shit in the name of the Lord.

The Queen's Funeral... I could not stop watching!

So had HRH Elizabeth II's funeral playing in the shop basically all day while fitting up a crankshaft and some other stuff.

OMFG... listening to the commentators and 'play by play... ' was utterly killing me! I know it's supposed to be a somber occasion and that there is a whole lot of tradition and whatnot. It's what royalty does. But it just was a riot at a certain level listening to the details...

Some excerpts, but from memory. So I may be a bit off:

"Now we see the procession approaching Westminster Abbey. The new King and his Consort Queen are riding in the Rolls-Royce that was a gift to the Queen on her Coronation. Note the Saint George Slaying the dragon Mascot which is traditionally on the car when it is occupied by the Royal Head of state. Only on rare occasions is this tradition changed, such as during the funeral of Princess Margerat when the coat of arms on the roof of the car was replaced by a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken, a tradition dating back to 1973 and recognizing that the Princess was known to consume a dozen drumsticks at a time.

"RIding in the car is King Charles III, and his Royal Consort Camilla. We understand that in private he refers to his loving wife as "my little Seabiscuit." Oh wait... the car is stopping. Camilla is descending from the car. What is happening here? This is most unusual. Ah, there, I can see it. They are giving her some oats. Note that the nosebag that she is now wearing was made by Asprey, which has had a Royal Warrant since 1457 when they made the Royal cudgels and supplied gimp suits used on princes imprisoned in the tower.

"Now we are pulling in front of the Abbey... you will remember that earlier in the day this was the site of the ritual circumcision of a stoat, a royal tradition that only applies with the death of a queen and dates back to Boudicca, during Roman times. Though we do note that the ceremony, until this year, has never been filmed or photographed as it was not performed during the funeral of Queen Victoria as there was a severe stoat shortage due to the Boer War.

"Charles is descending from the limousine now. By tradition he is wearing the Royal Codpiece, first worn by Charles 1 during his usurpation of the throne from his cousin Delbert the Unknown. The Codpiece was actually lengthened during the reign of Queen Victoria as it was known that her husband Albert was exceptionally well-endowed for a king, resulting in Victoria's Royal Motto "Albert carus multum cibum stipant." Charles, we understand may have it shortened after his coronation, though William is likely to object citing his genetic links to his great great uncle.

"Oh dear, it seems Camilla has tripped on the curb broken her leg. Yes, the vets are coming in now and we think she may have to be shot. We will have to follow up on that.

"Now we move to the edge of the Thames where, by tradition, the Queen's body will be catapulted across the river in a ceremony dating back to the reign of Oliver Cromwell. The trebuchet that they will use for this ceremony was actually present at the battle of Agincourt and was known to have slain at least 35 French Knights. The tradition, as many know, was rather tastelessly lampooned by the Flying Circus which launched cows and large wooden rabbit, dishonoring a tradition that has roots in the English Civil War... And there she goes! Yes, the trebuchet has worked perfectly and she has spiked the landing. Well, we knew she would! Well done to Her Majesty...

"Meanwhile, the Funerial Soccer Riot is progressing well at Wembley Stadium. This act dates back to 1066 when, at Hastings, a soccer riot broke out between the British and Norman teams restulting in Gaston the Bald taking over much of England and some excellent Salmon water in Scotland. It seems that Manchester United fans do have the upper hand and are now burning Harrods.

"The queen now has been laid to rest, by tradition with her feet elevated exactly two firkins above her head and the sarcophagus is being sealed with a mixture of Hylomar Land Rover Head Gasket adhesive and pub cheese. She will remain in this position until the next queen ascends to the throne when she will be flipped over, by tradition, using the Royal spatula, kept in waiting at Windsor Castle for just suck an occasion.

"Well, that concludes our BBC-6 broadcast for today... We return you to Corgie Grooming from High Wyckomb... This has been Myron Blivetsphincter and I just want it known that I didn't get my free bank holiday today, and would rather be home pinning butterflies to my wall."

Damn I love listening to the British. I may have to see if I can get to be a commentor at the Coronation. Because I just know it's going to be epic! Maybe I can do a podcast... History buff and all!

Cheers,

Sirhr

2022 Election Fraud

So, evidence already of large fraud in the 2022 primaries, tied to the same fraud perpetrated in the 2020 election.
Several states fighting against removing dead people from election rolls, it's looking like we'll have a lot of the same fraud in 2022 that occurred in 2020.

Is This Canadian Transgender Shop Teacher Auditioning for an Adult Film Shoot?

Screen-Shot-2022-09-17-at-12.11.55-PM-730x0.png
Twitter/@hippojuicefilm

Oakville Trafalgar High School in Ontario, Canada is part of the Halton District School Board. They’ve been promoting gender identity ideology in schools for a few years, so this probably won’t surprise them at all.

A shop teacher who taught last year as a man showed up in class this year looking a little different.

I don't remember my shop teacher looking like this🧵 pic.twitter.com/pHHr58Zspa
— King Royce Lopez II 👑 (@hippojuicefilm) September 14, 2022

I regret to inform all of the males (and I presume jealous females) reading this that those humongous breasts aren’t real. In fact, we’d be hard-pressed to find anything “real” about “Kayla Lemieux,” who last year was teaching shop as a man named “Stephen Hanna.”

If you guessed that the kids that Lemieux taught are caught between desperately wanting to make fun of the disturbed man and knowing they could be expelled for doing so, you’re right.

“The kids here most definitely don’t think its normal… but realistically we can’t say anything,” one student said on Twitter, “Last year, the teacher was a man. I don’t think the school can fire him.”

Reduxx:

Lemieux is listed within the faculty directory on the OTHS website. His official school e-mail address is also connected to a Google account which has a photo visually verifying his identity.
Reduxx reached out to OTHS administrators for comment, and they did confirm that Lemieux is currently employed at the school, but refused any further questions.
Set aside concerns about transgenderism and look at this from the standpoint of a mental health issue. It’s entirely unnecessary for Lemieux to wear these huge prosthetic breasts. And if Lemieux claims it’s part of some kind of “gender discovery process,” the teacher needs a mental health intervention. In fact, Lemieux’s obvious fascination with breasts is more reminiscent of a teenage boy’s fantasy rather than anything having to do with transgender male/female identity.

True North:

According to websites selling these prosthetic breasts, the largest pair can weigh up to 35 pounds (16,000 grams).
Both Lemieux and the school’s principal Meredith Cammisuli did not respond to a True North request for comment on the appropriateness of her presentation.
But on Friday afternoon, the school removed the list of staff and their e-mail addresses from its website.
For Hanna/Lemieux to deliberately parade ludicrously large mammaries in front of hormone-infused teenage boys borders on sexual exhibitionism. It’s a prurient display reminiscent of porn in that there is no redeeming personal or professional value in such a display. Lemieux/Hanna is wearing the fake breasts to elicit a sexual response.

Firing Lemieux/Hanna would be a gift. Arresting the porn actor is what is deserved.

What are yall doing for bolt smoothness

So aside from the obvious, cycling the bolt over and over, what can I do to make a bolt cycle smoother?

I bought a brand new howa mini to give my dad for hunting. I've already spent some coin in getting a decent bottom metal for it (the factory one sucks since it's plastic), and even had it bedded.

I later stumbled onto a good deal on here for another mini and bought it. They are worlds apart in how they feel when you cycle the bolt. I could give this one to my dad instead but now this one is going to need bedding, another bottom metal, etc.

Is there anything anyone can recommend? If it was for me, I wouldn't mind much. But since I gifting this to my dad, I want to make sure it's as good as it can get.

The one I built for my dad

VS the one I bought after the fact

The one I bought new has some finish on bolt and it looks shitty. The one I bought from here has a stainless bolt and they are worlds apart!

Sig is now offering a 5.56 version of their MCX SPEAR rifle- they named it the Spear LT:

Small arm designs are introduced in both revolutionary and evolutionary processes, each being equally important to developing a reliable and capable firearm system. For manufacturers, engineering a new gun and its progressive iterations, is a painstaking progression that requires refinement, numerous evaluation cycles, and performance improvements. For the consumer, the excitement of a new system is intertwined with compatibility concerns, the hope for additional features in future releases, and waiting – a cycle that is not unique to the firearm industry. In early 2015, SIG Sauer released the MCX, a revolutionary design in a market awash in direct impingement AR-15 variants. In the years since the initial release, the MCX progressed into the MCX Virtus, arriving at where we are today – the introduction of the SIG MCX SPEAR-LT.

The MCX SPEAR-LT may not seem overly impressive at first glance, but it is the most advanced update to date, adding features, reducing weight, while remaining completely backwards compatible with all of the MCX Virtus models over the past five years.

Alone, a short stroke piston is not exactly a ‘revolutionary design’ – several rifles and carbines have used this system with great success. But SIG refined a series of features around the short stroke piston to develop an advanced rifle that addresses many of the shortcomings displayed in the AR-15 and other weapon systems.
If you own an MCX Virtus, don’t worry. All of the parts are backwards compatible. But for obvious reasons you may not be able to take advantage of all of the new features of the MCX SPEAR-LT should you decide to mix and match.

The hand guard on the SPEAR-LT is slimmer, lighter, and is securely fastened to the upper receiver with two bolts. Some users were concerned with the possibility of a shift in the point of impact (POI) when using laser devices that were attached to the hand guard on the Virtus systems. Although I tested this several times and my IR laser held a zero even after being completely removed. The lower profile of the SPEAR-LT hand guard does allow for a more secure supporting hand grip.
Using a pushbutton design rather than a pull up and rotate action, the new MCX collapsing stock folds easily out of the way when needed. There is a removable cheek rest for those shooters who don’t like the feel of cold metal on their sensitive skin.

Features:

  • 13” Lightweight Ergonomic Handguard
  • SIG Flatblade Match Trigger
  • Fully Ambidextrous Controls
  • Interchangeable Barrels
  • Push-Button Folding Stock With Cheekrest
  • SIG QD Suppressor-Ready Flash Hider

Fully Ambidextrous

One of the biggest additions to the MCX SPEAR-LT is the right side bolt release, making this rifle completely ambidextrous. This minimalist design was first introduced with the SIG Switchblade M400 AR-15 series and it is both low profile and easy to use. It looks dainty, but it’s not – it is solid and it works.

Besides the ambidextrous right side bolt release, there are some internal geometry changes in the MCX SPEAR-LT lower receiver (top) compared to the MCX Virtus lower receiver (bottom). If you are mocking my dirty MCX Virtus lower, be advised that the MCX is my favorite carbine and it gets shot a lot.

TFB FIRST LOOK: Introducing the New 5.56 SIG MCX SPEAR-LT
A side profile look at the SPEAR-LT (top) and the Virtus (bottom) lower receivers notes that the right side bolt release is really the only difference between the two. Also note that the whole rifle is anodized in coyote FDE whereas the MCX Virtus could have both anodized and Cerakote coated parts from the factory.

The recoil springs and bolt carrier groups have the same external geometry, which allows everything to remain backwards compatible.

But one of the new features of the SPEAR-LT is the ability to use any MILSPEC AR-15 trigger. This change requires a redesign in the MCX firing pin lock system. The SPEAR-LT BCG (top) appears to have the firing pin lock on the left side of the bolt directly behind the firing pin (pictured here on the bottom of the firing pin). Where as the Virtus firing pin lock comes down from the top.

Below: The firing pin lock design (highlighted in yellow) on the MCX Virtus from the MCX Small Parts Shopper (SIG). We will do a full field strip in the coming weeks – I want to get a good number of rounds through this gun as it came from the factory before I do any disassembly.

MCX Virtus Bolt Carrier Group and recoil spring system with the previous firing pin lock design.
After a cursory review of both the SPEAR-LT (top) and the Virtus (bottom) upper receiver groups, I wasn’t able to detect any significant differences.

TFB FIRST LOOK: Introducing the New 5.56 SIG MCX SPEAR-LT
At first I bemoaned the 16 inch barrel as the first SPEAR-LT release (yes, I use terms like ‘bemoaned’ and complain about the brand new first production MCX SPEAR-LT as being ‘too long’). But the barrel length does make perfect sense. With pistol stabilizing braces firmly in the crosshairs of ATF regulations and the NFA application process for making or transferring a short barrel rifle (SBR) taking months to complete, a 16″ rifle is the best way to get the SPEAR-LT in as many hands as possible as quickly as possible.
TFB FIRST LOOK: Introducing the New 5.56 SIG MCX SPEAR-LT

TFB FIRST LOOK: Introducing the New 5.56 SIG MCX SPEAR-LT
Besides, when barrels and hand guards become available, new owners can start the ATF Form 1 process and created their own SBR while still shooting their 16″ gun. MCX barrel swaps can be completed with simple tools, don’t require an armorer like AR-15 barrel changes, and can be completed in as little as two minutes. As a reminder, always read the user manual before operating or disassembling a new firearm to ensure the proper procedures are being followed.
Below: The 9″ MCX Virtus in 300BLK suppressed with the SIG SLX762-QD (top) is about the same length as the unsuppressed 16″ SPEAR-LT in 5.56 (bottom).

TFB FIRST LOOK: Introducing the New 5.56 SIG MCX SPEAR-LT
As a huge fan of the SIG MCX Virtus, I am extremely pleased to finally witness the evolution of the MCX SPEAR-LT. This rifle drops some weight, adds new features, remains backward compatible, and improves on an already impressive system that is used by military, law enforcement, and civilians around the world. Most importantly, the MCX SPEAR-LT is in production and is available for purchase starting tomorrow.
