Torque Wrench Shootout: Reviews + Tests

As I mentioned in this thread: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/torque-wrench-reviews.7136523/ , the torque wrench I’ve been using for the past seven years was stolen. Since I needed to replace it, I decided to grab a few different options and test them to see which one I liked the most and to satisfy my curiosity regarding how these things actually perform. Not one to blindly trust marketing claims, I decided to give it a shot.

This isn’t meant as an end-all-be-all about quality and performance. Some of it is personal opinion and some of it is objective data, albeit with a sample size of one. So use this info as you please. Also as many will surely point out, we aren't building nuclear reactors here. I don't think we really need aerospace levels of accuracy and precision when it comes to torquing actions or scope rings.

I’m also not a statistician. I did my best to double check my math.

I'm using a calibrated HIOS HP100 torque tester. I also have a Seekonk TA-75 dial tester as backup. The HIOS displays torque to the 1/10th in/lb and is accurate to 0.1%. I have a direct attachment, as well as a rundown fixture that simulates torquing a fastener.

I will update this thread as I test each product, but here’s the current lineup:
  • Borka PTL: 4; 8 in/lb pre-set
  • Borka BTD
  • Fix It Sticks: 15 in/lb Pre-Set
  • Fix It Sticks: 55 in/lb Pre-Set
  • Fix It Sticks: All-In-One
  • Lyman ProDrive 10-80 in/lb
  • Wiha TorqueVario-S 10-50 in/lb
  • Wiha TorqueVario-S 5-18 in/lb
  • Wiha TorqueVario-S 18-62 in/lb
  • Tekton TRQ21101 10-150 in/lb
  • Mountz FGA-80 8-80 in/lb

Remington 700 Alpha 1

So has anyone seen this? I know the 700 quality has fallen off over the years but this looks promising. It does seem as if they took some notes from the 700 clones.

Night Vision SOLD PF : PVS-30 WP. Original Knights Armament purchase. Not a rebuild.

I also have an extra PVS-30 W.P. that has less than 30 hrs run time.
This and a few other training class items have only been touched to get to something else in the safe for the last 2 years.

This is not a rebuilt/converted PVS-26. It is a factory built PVS-30 with the newer electronics. Will run on a single AA or a single 123 for a hell of a long time.

Excellent image.
Through the scope pics taken while struggling with a Samsung S7 phone.
Per usual, image is obviously sharper when viewed real time.

Complete kit as shown.
Includes all paperwork, manual, factory sign-off on specs, etc..

$6,600.00 + I pay UPS N.D.A. shipping.

No shipping out of country and will not ship to person or address that is fishy so as to not piss off ITAR.

***Most timely way to communicate with me regarding this item is email to: [email protected]

Thanks.

SOLD Accuracy International Rifle for sale.

Rare opportunity to own a piece of A.I. history. This rifle was built by the A.I. custom shop in Oakridge Tennessee back when you could send them an action and they would custom build your rifle. Remington PSS action, Cooper Precision 5R 20inch flutted heavy barrel, reworked action, lapped bolt lugs, coated in tough coat, mounted in a no longer available folding A.I. chassis, custom dovetail rail made by CPM for A.I., Parker Hale bipod, Schmidt Bender 10 X scope. This rifle was designed as a clandestine rifle, capable of being placed in a gym bag or other innocuous carrier for transport. 6K

Opinions on Rem700 sps tactical 308

Looking at possibly picking this rifle up, never had a Remington but with the blind, thinking it might be a good deer rifle?
I’ve got a tikka Ctr 308 16” but it’s gotten heavy wjth the krg chassis and enclosed forend.

I was eyeing the river American in 308, but I’ve got a chance to grab this Remington with a weaver tactical 3-15, and a dead air brake that I’ll need anyways for around $1k. It’s in a greenish hogue stock

Accessories I just got scammed by STRSAM

So this guy post an ad yesterday about the Dbal A3 for sale.
I sent him an offer of 950, talked to him, he said he ok with 950 if I sent payment by zelle right away that night. I asked for his number, he said his number got problem, then provided me his zelle’s email.
I checked his profile, he got 100% rating and member since 2008, so I wouldn’t be hesitated at all. However, after sent 950, my bank said they need additional review. I asked him, the guy said he got somethiing wrong with his zelle, he will send me the refund, then asked if I can send again to his friend’s zelle. But I said let wait until the morning and see what going on.
When I woke up, 950 already taken from my bank. Talked to him again and thing getting suspicious. Ask him what’s happened then he went quiet, no response.
He already block me from seeing his profile, also he deleted his ad.
Talked to Chase this morning, but they said chance to get my money back is not guaranteed.
What concerned me is his profile has 100% rating and he’s like senior of the forum with lot of posts and feedbacks.
Just can’t believe I got scammed by 100% rating member.
Just be careful guys.
I also included the conversation between me and him so you guys can judge.

Is this a “thing” …. ?

Ok. So I used specific powders for specific loads…. Go figure, right?! I typically buy a few single pound bottles of powder at a time… But I’m sure as others have found there can be consistency issues bw batches and bottles of the same powder. So …. My thought is why not mix them all up? Dump them into the same tub and mix it up to make them more consistent? Is that a thing people do?

Accessories PSA: PayPal F&F no longer free for Business accounts

Looks like as of July 1, 2022 PayPal is charging fees on F&F transactions.... if sending money to users with a Business account. Many, including myself, did not seen this news.

Given how popular sending funds via PayPal F&F is on the Hide, everyone should confirm / disclose in their PX listing if they are using Business or Personal accounts so there is no confusion.

Maggie’s truck buying

So I am going to be in the market for a truck soon. I am returning after a 10 month deployment and sold my Ram before I left. I have been at sea so pretty out of touch with the market. Obviously some internet some times, but is the market still completely crazy? I heard rumor that Chevy and Ford were forced to stop truck production until they met some B.S. EV quota?

Any thought or advice to current trends in the pick-up world would be appreciated.
Ideally I want a 3/4 or 1 ton, I live on a little acreage and have projects to get back to and if I can find the right truck it will be with me a while. I am looking to retire from the military and don't plan to buy again for a while.

thanks,
chaps

SOLD LNIB Impact 737R Action

Pretty much brand new Impact 737R standard bolt face. I say pretty much as I did spend an evening or two cycling the bolt so it’s not technically brand new anymore. It is cut for AW mags which allows for the use of AW or AICS mags interchangably. Serial number is taped just so that there is not a permanent history of it on the internet. I am completely open to a phone call for serious buyers before hand to make sure I’m legit. I have two of these actions right now and going a different direction with a project hence selling one. $1275 to your FFL.

We NEED this

A decent "get together".
Yea it'd be kewl to have it at some rifle range somewhere.
I'm all up into shooting shit as I'm sure most of you guys are.
But, it doesn't have to be that....a bar-b-que would be kewl too.
If anyone can come up with a vertical grill, I would be more than happy to do some donor kebab, the right way.
Just imagine 30 lbs of beef on a vertical rotisserie. Full on mediteranian spices, pitas, tahini, tzatziki, veggies, the whole shebang.
We could even say shit to each other we are afraid of saying online.
Whaddaya say guys, is anyone up to it ?
I mean it's a bar-b-que, nothing intended, nothing implied.
Gimme some input lads.
