**ROUND2 !!** (100YARD) THE BOLT ACTION SHOOTOUT OVERVIEW!
I thought this would be really fun for the Bolt-Action platform shooters to really show off your bad A$$ rifles and sniper's hide shooting skills in the Bolt-Action community. This is the big boy, **ROUND2 !!** (100YARD), 6groups, 5shots each, 30 total rounds SHOOTOUT!!

HERE ARE THE GUIDELINES TO POST:

1.) At 100yards (please be honest about this 100yards), all 6 groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets (no more, no less)... All consecutively shot!!! Must be on one target..... What ever size target you think you can get 6 groups @ 5shots each on.... Can NOT be on individual targets. MUST BE on one target with 6 total groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets. That's it!! Shoot as fast or slow as you want, but must be shot within that day (AKA, all day long)!!... If your one piece of paper / cardboard doesn't have 30 bullet holes, it doesn't count..... Bullet holes must be easy to see in your picture!! This is NOT about bullseyes!! All about grouping size average and your best group size!! All in good fun people... .25" or 5",, show off your skills baby! Just try your best! Everyone is welcome here regardless of skill! It's all Bolt-Action rifle cool baby!

2.) Can be any caliber Bolt-Action type platform. 308, 223, 260, 30-06, what ever. BOLT-ACTION ONLY!!!

3.) Can use any type factory or reloaded ammo. What ever works best for your bolt-action rifle.

4.) cough, honestly measure with calipers the distance of your two furthest bullet holes of each 5shot groupings (((center to center of each bullet hole))) and write this measurement IN LARGE FONT BLACK MAGIC MARKER right next to each grouping (6 total measurements).

5.) Post close up picture of your best SINGLE group WITH CALIPERS showing the measurement!! MUST BE WITH CALIPERS!! NO RULERS ALLOWED!! If you don't have calipers, then go buy some. They are only $20 bucks!! Sheesshh, stop being such as cheap A$$ !! JK... Please be honest with your measurements!!! No coins or objects for scale!!! Just hard core measurements.

6.) Post picture of entire target showing all 6 groupings / measurements with calipers still on your best grouping!! NO picture, then it didn't happen!!

7.) In your posting, add up all 6 measurements and divide by 6 for your average MOA shot. Example, 1.12" + 1.01" + .56" + .75" + 2.25" + 3.46" = 9.15 divided by 6groupings = 1.525" average.

8.) Please, be honest!!!

9.) If you do reload, feel free to post your load specs!

10.) Post what type of Bolt-Action rifle, ammo used, and how you took your shots (prone, bench, bipod, sandbags used, blah blah blah)........... No lock down gun vises!! NO BENCHREST VISES!!! Sandbags are ok, bipods are ok, monopods are ok.... If you are using a vise, then you are not really shooting the damn rifle and a monkey can shoot the rifle for you.

11.) Please post a picture of your rifle with your entry!!!!

12.) there is NO SUCH THING AS "FLYERS" in this shootout.. any possible "flyers" you might have count as your group!! damn those flyers!!!

13.) Please put the type of rifle, your sniper's hide name, and date you consecutively shot at the top of your target!

14.) As long as you follow the rules, have 6 groups @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets only, then feel free to post your results regardless of your average / single group size even if you don't make the leader boards!! You can not have multiple rankings / measurements on the leader boards,,,, only your best entry will make the boards with your one rifle.... You can however, have multiple leader-board entries by using two completely different bolt-action rifles. In short, you can make as many attempts as you want with your rifle in order to improve your standing on the boards / get the best possible outcome with your rifle... no limits on entries..... the only way to be on the boards more than once at the same time is to use two different rifles.... Rock out as many bolt-action rifles / entries as you want. Time to bust out that bolt-action collection!! All info is good info. Each rifle is different, has different optics, has different purpose, and different operators!!!! Be respectful of everyone's postings! Sub MOA or not, show off your rifle and skills! This is all in good fun!

15.) IF and only IF, with a bolt-action, you get ALL 6 total groups, 5shots each, consecutively shot in one day of shooting, AT or UNDER .25" SHOT AT 100YARDS, THEN you will get the esteemed title of, "This person, (your name), with this bolt-action rifle, (type/brand of rifle), shoots .25" IPHY @ 100YARDS ALL DAY LONG" on the original post!!!! You will be required to have caliper measurements with pics ON EACH GROUP if you think you made it this far!! No cheaters or you will be called out if anything looks fishy... Until then, you are mostly just full of BS!

I guess I'll go first...

Shot with my TRG-22 (one of the Eurooptic .260 Remingtons) @ 100 yds from a bench using sandbags front and rear.
Average was .496".
Best group was .350".
Rifle used: TRG-22, .260 Rem.
Barrel length/type: 26", factory barrel with factory muzzle brake.
Optics: Steiner 5x25 FFP, Mil/Mil, MSR reticle.
Mount: Badger 34mm rings.

Shot with reloads
Lapua brass (6th loading)
CCI 200 primers
46.7 gr H-4831SC
139 gr Lapua Scenar
2.885 OAL (.030 off lands)

Not my best day ever. I can usually average in the .3s with this rifle. No excuses, today just wasn't my best day. Maybe I'll give it another try later.

On a higher note, I did manage to keep all shots under the required .625" from bullseye to get the highly coveted "Bullseye Bonus"! lol

Here are the pics...

Although it doesn't count for the contest because it was shot a couple months ago, here is an example of a better day...

Same rifle, same load, same range, shot from same bench with same sandbags.

Average was .396", best was .217".

Kick ass job my friend! Nice shooting and i'll get you on the boards right away. Also, if possible.... Could you please change your thumbnail pics to being posted right into your post... Just edit your existing post please. This makes it much easier for everyone to view your entry rather than clicking on thumbnails. Nice job!

BTW everyone. If you can for the BOLT ACTION 100yard & 300yard, please send me a PM when you post your entry as I don't always check out the bolt action forums as I don't own a bolt action myself... well, as of now that is.. Not saying I've never fired one! Not saying I'm never going to get one! It will happen and you guys better hope I never get one! LOL JK ;)

Just as a side note also..... please zero out your calipers on the bullet used and measure outside to outside of bullet holes as noted at the very top of the original post.... This will be the last warning & the next person will be asked to re-do their entry. This is needed as these bolt action groups will be stupid small im sure.

Edit your existing entry supratt66 with the correct method of measuring your groups & I'll update your entry score in the OP. Send me a PM when done.

The picture in the OP example entry has been updated to reflect this final warning.

Looking good supratt66.

Not saying I've never fired one! Not saying I'm never going to get one! It will happen and you guys better hope I never get one! LOL JK ;)

Sorry for the thumbnails. How do I change them to in post pics? I've been wondering how people do that. Sorry... I'm better with a rifle than I am with computer.

Just as a side note also..... I'm totally cool with how supratt66 measured his groups & will let this slide, please zero out your calipers on the bullet used and measure outside to outside of bullet holes as noted at the very top of the original post.... This will be the last warning & the next person will be asked to re-do their entry.

Please double check your entry supratt66 just to make sure. Working on the honor system here.

The picture in the OP example entry has been updated to reflect this final warning.

Looking good supratt66.

I overlooked that one. Sorry about that. I measured edge to edge and subtracted .264". I measured carefully and was actually conservative on my measurements. I'm not sure your method would work with an analog caliper?

sounds good... I trust you. Your calipers should be able to zero out correct? If they do zero out, then zero out on the bullet used and measure outside to outside. If not, then yes.... measure outside to outside and subtract the bullet diameter as the groups in this thread will get stupid small. I just want to make sure this is fair to everyone else spending such time & money.

Nice shooting! Looking good!

My submission for the bolt action shootout. I've shot much better but I'm a bit rusty. I'll try again real soon.

Shot with my Remington 700 SPS With Harris Bipod & Rear Bag @ 100YARDS!
Average was .744
Best group was .346
Worst group was 1.041
Rifle used = Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308
Barrel Length / Type = 20" Heavy Barrel
Optics = Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 Mil-dot

Shot with reloads

.749+.902+.346+.925+.503+1.041 = 4.466 / 6 = .744 average over 6 groupings @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets:

im really looking forward to going out again this weekend to replace my bad showing. My scale was really acting wiggy last week and i finally decided to dump it. I think i can bring that down to a sub .5 average (as its has repeatedly done).IMHO most production bolt rifles are so accurate today that it really does come down to the shooter. Like most guys i sweat high end rifles a LOT, but my pocket book doesnt suport that desire lol. When its all said and done, if a 1k rifle prints half moa consistently, im ok with that. But im not betting my life, or someone elses, on its capabilities. im just putting holes in paper.

Hey Elfster, any idea how long this shootout and the semi-auto shootout are going to run for? I should be CONUS for a few weeks next month and I may post some groups just to make everyone else feel better about their own shooting. Although the early entries are so damn solid in their own right they sure don't need my scattergun to make them look better.

hello my friend.

it will keep going until someone wins this, which will be rather hard even with the best of rifles / shooters,,,, so I would say you have some time, but you never know!

**ROUND2 !!** (100YARD) GRAND PRIZE... This person shoots .25" IPHY @ 100yards ALL DAY LONG board (all 6groups are at or under .25")!!!.... (started 10/02/12)!!!

Great shooting but looks like you could push them a little faster and might get some better accuracy. With my SPS 1/9tw I am pushing 24.5gn behind 69gn Nosler CC. Shoots 1 to 1.5" groups at 300

yep. my 69gn loads i run faster. i took a slow node on purpose with that round so it was "good enough" for weeeknd target shooting but still cheap on powder and low recoil. i just happen to be out of 69gn rounds at the moment lol. more on its way. ill repost when i get them back in. hoping to get some shot out this weekend.

pm replied. nothing special. just droppe dit in with a decent trigger and glass. let fly. the rifle is actually capable of better but im having a hard time keeping the nosler custom comps in hand lol. went out the next weekend and shot .55 avg. but my furthest from bull line would have come off board. But i feel that a .66 is pretty indicative of average day at range for that rig.

Good news everyone. Starting today 12/1/13. you're on the boards moboost! wow, you were busy this weekend between your 3 bolt actions and the semi auto! What I find cool about you moboost is you can take your average off the shelf rifle and do amazing things with it. Very nice!

Seriously, not trying to bust your nuts & ill let these measurements slide, but according to the rules you should zero out your calipers on the bullet used & measure outside to outside of the bullet hole. It would be great if you could please do this on your next entries.

Nice job my friend and keep up the good work!

All measurement were done by the rules with digital calipers zeroed on the bullets and measured outside to outside.
The mechanical calipers are for reference - since you can't exactly do a "shenanigans" zero on those. But I will leave the digitals on from now.

P.S. I also did two rimfire "rounds" ;)

Was on the Hide this morning and read about this challenge. Since I was getting ready to retire the factory tube after 1500 rounds, I decided to load up some ammo and give this challenge a go. Rifle is a factor Savage F/tr in 308 that has been worked over by Larry Racine. He pillar bedded the action, trued the bolt face, did a little trigger work and diamond lapped the tube.
Load is as follows:
Twice fired Lapua brass that was full sized and NOT fire formed. (my buddy gave me this brass, which he just shot out of his GAP crusader.)
168 Amax set 20k off the lands
43.5 gr of Varget
FGMM primers.
The rifle was cleaned so I fired 15 rounds to foul the barrel. Then groups were shot consecutively in 30 minutes using a Sinclair Gen 2 bipod and an Protektor rear bag from a bench.
Group size was measured per the rules zeroing the calipers on a 168 gr Amax.
Groups were
.575,.599,.900,.403,1.200,.655=4.332
Average group size is .722
Smallest group is .403.

How long are yall waiting between shots and between groups? Prior to this range outing I hadn't shot a whole lot of 5 shot groups in succession and my results were less than stellar. Still averaging about an inchish group barring some flyers that were mainly my fault but this rifle used to shoot in the .2s for 3 shot groups. I know, I know, 3 shot groups suck. I changed lots of varget, used some once fired brass from another gun, didn't check brass length(some were hard to chamber with FL sizing), some primers didn't seat good, got the barrel threaded since the last time I shot, put a new scope on it, basically changed everything. I noticed the gun was getting really hot after 10 shots or so taking a shot every 10-15 seconds and about 45 seconds between the two groups. This is on a stockish 308 5R Remington. Going to process some brass I know shot well, and do my brass prep right(not rush) this time.

Dots are 1/2", ignore the bottom shots those were from zeroing the rifle and testing POI shift with the can. First group I pulled first shot left, 3rd group on the second row the flyer to right was when the guy next to me with a 50cal shot right as I was shooting. Cant decide if its just my terrible shooting or if something is messed up with all that Ive changed. Vertical dispersion on group 5 was probably due to neck tension as I noticed those were real stiff to chamber, the horizontal dispersion leads me to believe its just my shooting. I left my triad stock pack on another rifle so cheek weld wasn't as good as normal either. Unfortunately I didn't have the magnetospeed on for these groups, I shot 30 rounds from my old batch of loads and the SD was 13 for a 10 shot string running 178amaxs over 44gr of varget at 2670avg out of the 24" pipe so I know my old loads were good. Basically a lot of stuff I need to check/improve on. Six five shots groups is definitely grueling and requires patience, something Im still trying to learn after almost 30 years on this earth :D

These were all shot off a bipod and triad wedge rear bag.
