    Re: 30-338 to 300 win mag If your goal is to get rid of the freebore (in the leade not the chamber), then set the barrel back and rechamber the rifle. Given how well many Weatherby Mk Vs shoot with freebore, I guess I'd shoot it a bunch before I did any changing.

    Re: Nikon BDC question. It will be "on" in terms of shooting any game. You can test it. Probably be an inch or two different at 100 than 200. Real World: sight in any Magnum .277- .33 three inches high at 100 and your point blank range on big game will be 275-325 yards.

    Re: 30-338 to 300 win mag You should do a chamber cast and compare it to 300 WM dimensions. Question is why change ? The 30-338 (308 Norma Magnum) is, in many ways a better cartridge than 300 WM starting with a .318" vs .264 neck. See the current issue 10/09 pg 38 of Guns & Ammo.
