(Action, barrel, trigger, optics, magazine and bipod not included)

Welp its opening day

Didn't get out in the field today. Family is coming for Thursday as I've been cross country for the better part of the 21st century and we're busy unpacking and preparing. But having been away for a while and being young enough to grow up and learn to hunt here, I missed a few things:

I missed all the shit I would have gotten for showing up with an AI AND a can
I missed all the shit I would have gotten if I showed up with an AR-10
I missed falling asleep in the afternoon sun and getting busted: "Ain't gonna get yer deer that way!"
I miss my uncle and his "tank" tracked vehicle and busting his chops about it. But it was nice we didn't have to walk
I miss my aunt who was the only person who took in a city kid who wanted to learn to hunt.
I miss telling her how 6mm is cool again.
I miss all the goofy orange hats. Including mine.
I miss being so naive I didn't think I needed to lead a target
I miss my grandpa--he woulda gotta a kick outta my stuff--and how I still practice on pop cans with his/my 22
Mostly I just miss being another one of the guys on opening weekend.

Those were good times and now those folks are all gone (RIP).
And maybe next year my son and I can argue the merits of 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor while we're parked in the snow. Or go chase some pheasants around the field. Or I can laught at his southern ass freezing in the Northern Winter.

Mostly I just miss not having anyone to share it with--no one else really wants to go with "Crazy Family Gun Guy"

Largest scope for performance and symmetry on a small frame AR.

Trying to get some feelers out here, maybe I can get some pictures of your setups.

I'm trying to get a general consensus of what is the considered the maximum objective size and magnification for a small frame AR versus what is symmetrical for the size and weight.

Before I get hit with the Sponge Bob meme and "UsE ThE RiGhT ToOl For the JoB", slow your roll keyboard commando. I understand, and acknowledge that. If you have ever had a piece of kit that by the specs was the "right tool for the job" , but in practice was probably the worst choice due to size and weight considerations... You understand where I am at here, I'm looking for others experiences.

My setup in question is a 20 inch 6 ARC, looking at putting a 4-20 x 50mm scope on it. I don't want it banging into everything, and don't want to have Hubble attached to the top of my rail either.

Typical engagement is going to be from 50-750. Yes... you can shoot 1k at 8-10 power, doesn't mean I don't want PID at what I may be shooting at those ranges.

Any help is appreciated, stay safe.

Welp, Im tagged out

I tagged out for Archery so have to wait until rifle season in 3 days 🤣🤣

This was an amazing hunt. This buck was incredibly vocal. He was talking crap to a spike, a doe and the buck I wish I had shot. This feller's daddy was standing in my blind spot and went un-noticed until I made my shot. This buck was all kinds of angry, he was pinning his ears and snorting. He was so worked up that he didnt notice when my arrow fel off the string and hit the ground 🙄

Fortunately I was well camoflaged (ASAT Vanish Suit). It was a chip shot at 4 yards with a 25 yard recovery.

SOLD ZCO 5-27 MPCT 3x and Spuhr 6001 SOLD shipped UPS

Up for sale is a basically brand new ZCO 5-27 MPCT 3x with a Spuhr 5001 mount. This is off of my V22, and it’s only seen about 100 rounds down range. I don’t shoot the 22 as much as I thought I would. Awesome scope though, with an amazing reticle.

I’ll let is go for SOLD with the Spuhr 6001. As seen in pics, scope is mounted and ready to throw on your rifle.

PP f/f preferred for ease, and I’ll send it out via UPS.

Thanks guys!

FRAUD ALERT -- MIDWEST POWDERS

BE AWARE: Midwest Powders has an internet site that advertises in-stock reloading powders at good prices. However, after sending a PayPal amount following a message from Midwest Powders confirming my order, and where they requested that I send the order payment to a specific individual, I tried to get confirmation on a shipping date. After a week where I sent 3 emails repeating my request, and receiving no response, I tried calling them. The phone had been disconnected. I then sent an email to the individual where the PayPal payment had been sent. Again, no response.

Bottom line: Just called my credit card company and explained my concern. They agreed to cancel the charge from PayPal, and also notify PayPal of a payment made by me through deceptive/fraudulent practices on behalf of the seller. BEWARE MIDWEST POWDERS !!!!

And the purity test just got a tad more difficult....

PSA for those willing (I know there are a few): So if you want a "hit" list to break into the lowest 1% purity test bracket here's a good place to start.....

Rifle Scopes ATACR Replacement?

I currently have a 4-16X42 ATACR with the MIL-R reticle on my LMT MWS in .308.
Overall, I am happy with it. The size and mag range are about perfect for the gun and my purposes.
I want to move to a tree type reticle. I have started shooting with clip on NV and thermal and a tree has to be better than trying to dial elevation in the dark. Additionally, my eyesight is starting to suck and dialing in the daytime is more work than it used to be.
I was thinking of picking up another ATACR with a more suitable reticle.
Thought I should get some opinions on other options to look at with a similar size and mag in the sub-$3000 range.
What else should I be looking at?

Kimchee?

What's with all the ads all of a sudden for Kimchee? And a 'special' on Kimchee on the science channel?

Seems that the SK Government is trying to push Korean food into our palettes? To compete with all the other good Asian stuff? I mean... last year it was India and pushing Curry... which is also awesome!

Which is actually awesome, because I love Kimchee and all foods South Korean. North Korean, not so much. I never developed a taste for crickets, ants and grass. But South Korean food... ranging from BBQ to really hot Kimchee is among my favorites.

Just seems interesting that this is suddenly a thing! But bring it on! I'd love to be able to buy good kimchee at my local grocery store. Anyone else here a Korean food fan?

Sirhr

PS. Developed a taste for it when a buddy came back from a tour in Korea. We were rooming together in NC and he was constantly making kimchee and stuff. Even burying it in the yard to Ferment. Stupid good!!!

Nnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Lyman Alaskan?

The other day I won an auction for Lyman Alaskan. It looked pretty rough in the pictures so I got it cheap.

When it got here the blueing was pretty freckled with rust. I started carefully cleaning it and found that instead of the serial number being 84592, it is B4592.

I remembered reading that the B Series Alaskans were military, but I don't find any markings to indicate that it is.

My question is; What is the REAL story on the B Series Alaskans?
