I had a great time at my first match recently. Im happy with my score and only 0’d the one I forgot to reset my turret which is a boneheaded mistake but one more easily fixed. My rifle had a failure to extract/eject that caused a debacle I had to clean out on every stage. It has since been fixed, so I’m excited to have an extra 30 seconds on every stage.

Aside from those obvious issues, I know wind got me on a few, so that’s something I need to improve on, which I guess is just picking shittier days to go to the range.

My range has a few barricades I’ve been practicing on, is it recommended to simply slow practice barricades to get used to them or should I be using a timer at this point? I tried to ignore the timer for my match and just slow and steady, so of course I timed out on pretty much every stage but I think it snagged me a few hits from concentrating.

This is a rambling mess so tldr if you could go back and were just starting prs what would you be practicing and how?

I don’t know anything about AR15’s but want to be ready to build one as soon as California is forced to get rid of their “assault weapons” regulations by the Bruen Decision. My plan is to start accumulating parts now rather than trying to buy them once the rules are changed and 10 million other California gun owners are all trying to buy the same parts I want.

I want a build that I can use for home defense, civil unrest, and training courses I intend to take. I want this gun to be absolutely reliable, but I am not interested in wasting money either. I am looking for a sanity check on my selections (“those two parts don’t work together you moron”) and any feedback on my choices.

Lower – LMT Mars-L (the only part I currently have)

Lower Parts Kit – LMT

Trigger – Hiperfire Hitouch Reflex or Geissele Hi-Speed National Match (DMR springs); The Hiperfire doesn’t have the reputation for reliability like Geissele but I have no experience with two-stage triggers.

Buffer Kit – no idea; does this even matter?

Grip – Magpul MOE K2

Stock – Magpul STR Carbine Stock Mil-Spec

Upper – BCM Mk2 or Vltor MUR; the BCM seems like it’s the new hotness, but it appears that BCM doesn’t sell these to the general public anymore. Is it worth waiting and hoping or just go for it and buy a Vltor when I can find it?

Handguard – KAC URX4 or Vseven; I think the KAC is probably bulletproof but am looking at Vseven for weight savings. Are either of these compatible with the BCM upper or will I need something else? I am assuming they work with the Vltor.

Barrel (16 inch) – FN HF, Noveske N4, or Criterion Core. Leaning towards Noveske because the profile and it weighs less than the FN and the Criterion is at least a 6 month wait (I believe that all the barrels are made by FN). Really looking for feedback here as I expect this is where accuracy is made or broken. Is 1.5 MOA a reasonable expectation for accuracy with decent factory ammo or progressively reloaded ammo? If necessary, I have the time to wait while Compass Lake cuts me a SS barrel.

Gas Tube – no idea if this even matters

Gas Block – Vseven titanium; If I go with pinned (and not clamped) will I need to have someone modify my barrel?

Bolt Carrier Group – Bootleg Adjustable Bolt Carrier or Rubber City Armory Standard Mass 5.56 x 45(223) M16 BCG Complete w/ Adjustable Gas Key. I have no idea if one is better or worse than the other. I am looking at these because my hope is that eventually I will be able to use a suppressor but wanted a non-adjustable gas block for reliability.

Charging Handle – PRI M-84 Gasbuster with combat latch

Muzzle Device – Hellfire linear flash suppressor

the only large media entity I’ve seen touch this in the US was the WSJ. Short version 3 years ago Brazil had draconian gun control, funny enough every policy the left here wants. Purchase age 25, license see 200 + per gun, unable to carry, enhanced mental screening. What did they get? The two most dangerous cities in the world and a murder rate 5 times higher than the US.

Three years ago they ditched all the policies for the most part. 34% reduction in homicides and a drop in almost every crime category.

Brazil just shows what common sense screams, criminals will get guns no matter what the law is, and criminals really don’t like dealing with armed law abiding citizens. When they instituted the changes our media was ablaze with claims it would be bloody chaos, since the opposite happens hardly a word has been written, I even saw one article claiming the crime drop on more youth cell phones so they now have something to do other than kill people evidently.

We know this but many of our fellow citizens don’t, gun control has nothing to do with making citizens safer from the criminals and crazies, but everything to do with making a corrupt government safer from it’s citizens. I can remember when Texas years ago was about to allow concealed carry, literally every news agency nightly stated it would be a bloodbath, after crime decreased they simply didn’t mention it again.

This entire debate is nothing but the mental conditioning of America, with the Covid lockdowns being beta testing. I really believe the government knows it’s power is just a paper tiger , it’s about time we realized it too.

The liquor store was about 5 miles on the highway..........but at the time we only had bicycles ...........so we had to take mostly back roads.........but there was some highway involved. Granted this was in the mid 1960's, and on a two lane U.S. highway in the middle of no where the traffic was not a problem........

I have no idea what the legal aspect of these fireworks were at the time, but they were not "advertised".........you had to ask for them.............but at 12-13 years.........money talked..............

Had an interesting encounter with a psychotic episode today. Was pretty amazing frankly.

The owner of the local gun club lost his mind in a meeting I had with him. I thought initially he was angry about something, but it quickly escalated to him threatening violence and then being barely able to control his urge to draw his pistol and open fire. I spent a fair amount of time watching his hands after it became clear I was witnessing a complete psychiatric breakdown. It was completely fucking nuts.

Attempted to leave and he blocked my way. Then threatened to kill my dog for some reason.

This is a Tikka T3x action originally from a Tac A1, so it has their excellent two stage trigger. Also includes the Sterk swept bolt handle and Area 419 20 MOA rail. KRG Bravo in Sako green with Arca rail and bag rider. The barrel is an 18" Bartlett 7.5 twist chambered in 6GT by Caleb Jackson, probably has 400 rounds through it. It's been shot in a few matches and has a scuff here and there but generally in good shape. Asking $1250 shipped to your FFL.
