7mm... Which one?

So I have this thing for wanting to build all the coolest rifles in all the calibers of the shooting spectrum. That said I have had the itch for a 7mm with several parameters (1)Short action caliber (2) 7mm (3) ability to launch 160~175 gr projectiles at 2800 Fps. I have looked at 6.5 offerings and they are very enticing, However, I want to carry a bit more energy & weight to the target and get a bit better barrel life. The 7PRC is VERY tempting but I would still like to keep the short action and a bit less recoil. I also feel that 7PRC just about duplicates 7 Rem...Yes I know the PRC is a better case more efficient and all still wanna do a short cal.
284 Win almost checks all the boxes but would still need a long action in order to work from a magazine ?
7-08 / AI and 7mm SAW get most of what I want without going off the end of the spectrum of wildcats.
I have a nice 7-08 and I can get 2700 FPS with 162 ELD bullets. I'm not unhappy with the performance but would like to get a bit more speed. I have not been able to get any 150 ELDs to play with and that might be something to look at.
So I feel like the 7-08 AI might be the way to go. The barrel currently on my 7-08 is a 1-9 and I think it may need to be a bit more to get the most out of the heavier bullets. The Saw looks really good but i'm not sure its performance is significantly better than the AI ?
So should I just suck it up and enjoy my regular 7-08 or is it worth the trouble to build a new rifle??

Does anyone here own the FN M249S?

I'm just curious if anyone here owns one, or has owned one. I've been lusting over this thing for a few months now and held off on any big purchases for a while and would love to add it to the collection, but apprehensive just due to the large outlay of cash.

Any issues with these things, or did anyone have regrets purchasing one?

I guess I just need you guys to tell me it's ok to drop 10k on something that I don't need and will not get used very much.

What parts of the rifle lend themselves to accuracy?

What parts of the rifle lend themselves to accuracy, and what should I be looking out for with each part? I'm a beginner to this so please bare with me haha

Barrel: I think the barrel is the most important part of an accuracy-focused build, from its profile to its length and weight, to what it's made out of or finished in.
Trigger: Helps you control the rate of fire and put your shots on target.
Buffer system: Helps you manage recoil, which tuned along with your gas system can give you a softer shooting experience
Compensator: Reduces recoil and muzzle rise for a flatter shooting experience
BCG: Helps you deal with higher pressures from match-grade ammo

That is my beginner knowledge of these parts. For an accuracy-focused build, is there anything more I should be considering? What role do the BCG and buffer play in an accuracy-focused build? Is there any part that I'm missing? These questions will guide me in building out my 3-gun competition and SPR AR.

Maggie’s The Greatest Game

Remember it well. It was a cloudy, gray, dark Sunday. Finished church, finished lunch and watched the game. My father was rooting for the Giants. Why? I will never know. But I was quite young (yes, once upon a time I really was young). It was some game. Johnny Unitas, one of the finest to ever touch a football.

Whether it was the greatest, that is for you to decide. Me, though, I did not get to see it, beleive it or not, this game was so important in the State of Louisiana, our 5th grade teacher even read us poems written about it. About ”The Run.” Halloween Night, could you expect anything less

Apple Helped the Chinese Government conduct surveillance and censor

So Apple caved in for the mighty buck to the chinese overlords.

"The tech giant’s most recent data center in Guiyang, China, will house users’ information on state-owned servers, the Times reported, adding that Apple reportedly ditched its encryption technology following objections from the Chinese government. Instead, state employees will manage the servers, as well as the security tools used to protect private information."

Sniper Hose

Today I go to type in Snipers Hide, only for the phone to do its typical spell check routine of changing words that are already spelled correctly.

My phone changed it to Snipers Hose, and down the rabbit hole we go.

Basically in German Snipers Hose refers to combat pants, and in flecktarn camo pattern of course.

So got to thinking 🤔, let's do a Google search for Flecktarn Lederhosen to see if such a thing exist, and this is the closest thing I could find.

I think any well respected Hide members should be sporting a pair of these. And of course @TheGerman should post pictures of him wearing them.

And by chance, If you're Scottish, then by all means go with these...

And if you think you're not worthy of wearing Lederhosen, then drinking a few of these will change your mind.

What reloading equipment kits would you recommend for someone getting started at under $1000?

So like many people before me, I'm interested in learning how to do my own loads for various reasons. I'm thinking what I will do is begin with a decent baseline kit that has all the equipment I need, then as I gain more hands-on experience, start switching parts out that meet my particular needs better. I shoot mostly .308, but I have a 6.5cm rifle that I might drag out of the closet again one day, and I'm interested in at getting a .300WM or .375 CheyTac rifle at some point in the future.

For what I'm willing to spend and what I'm trying to get for my money, I'll be willing to go as high as perhaps $1000 (excluding dyes and ammunition components) for the right kit, but I'm aiming for something around the $400 to $500 mark. But what's more important than the price is the quality - if one kit will give me a whole lot more bang for my buck than some other kit, then I'll be happy to spend the extra money for it. I've always believed that solidly intermediate equipment is the best starting point for anything, and that's my aim with learning to reload as well.

After searching for kits online, what I sort of have my eye on right now is this thing, but before I ordered it I thought I would ask here if it's a kit that would fit the bill for what I'm after, or if there's some other place I should be looking. Also, in stock is important - I want to get everything I need ordered and in hand before reloading suppliers get slammed by people prepping for Spring shooting.

What should I do with my mark 5hd?

Hi guys,
I’m newer to the precision rifle world amd after a year with my rem 700 in a McMillan a3-5 I bit the bullet and ordered a zermatt/bighorn origin barreled action from pva, but this is about my scope.
Iv currently got a leupold mark 5hd 5-25 with a pr1 moa reticle. I want to get more into prs style/ tactical shooting and I like the looks of the pr2 reticle, and I want to make the switch to mils. Iv currently got my scope up on the classifieds to trade my pr1 moa for a pr2 mil scope. Should I ,
1. keep it up and hope to find a trade
2. Sell It and buy a used pr2 mil mark 5
3. Buy a used pr2 mil and keep my pr1 moa and build a hunting rig I definitely don’t need but always talked about
Or 4. Sell my mark 5 hd and put the money towards something like a zco 527.

I just don’t know how much I’ll benefit from something like a zco at this point in my shooting “career” and I probably won’t ever try to compete seriously so it’ll all just be for fun/ shtf anyway.

Any suggestions?
