Convert 40 to 9?

So I and some ROs were talkin the other day at the range about 40s&w passing into history. When I retired 12 years ago the entire nation of LEOs carried 40s, not so anymore. Anyway one RO mentioned that I could convert my old duty S&W M&P Pro from 40 to 9 by just by dropping in a 9mm barrel with same mags and recoil spring so I ordered a factory 9mm barrel from Numrich. Outside dimensions looked identical.

Had a chance take it to the range today. I was surprised to see POI = POA with the new barrel and it shot a nice group, infact the first 4 rounds went in the same hole at 7yds with my crummy reloads.
20240117_151032.jpg

The other cool thing was that mags that hold 15 rounds of 40 will now hold 19 of 9mm.

However it would jam every 6 to 8 rounds. Live rounds would fail to feed. Looked like a stovepipe but with a live round not spent.

My first thought was how much higher the top smaller rounds sits in the lips could be the cause of the round popping out of mag too quick. Here's some pics to compare.
20240117_155710.jpg

First is 9mm, second is 40 in same mag.
20240117_155745.jpg

What Do you guys think? Should I snag some 9mm mags? Change recoil spring? Or scrap the whole idea?

Impact Wrench to install Action...For real?

Granted I don't work in a gun shop and I dont build guns so maybe this is normal. I was watching a video of a guy using a CNC to cut a barrel and when he installed the action to time it, he used a Milwaukee impact wrench to install it. Is this normal? Does anyone actually do this? These wrenches are like 600-1000 Ft lbs, and I assume he would have to use it to uninstall it as well. One would think the hammering effect would transfer from the action wrench to the Lugs? Anyone seen or done anything like this?

So, we can carry in federal buildings now?

I dig all these bullshit restrictions getting uplifted. It defies logic and reason how firearms could be banned in post offices, yet you can legally bring in one to ship that you're still clearly in possession of. A little piece of absolute fucking stupidity removed.

Mizelle said that while post offices have existed since the nation's founding, federal law did not bar guns in government buildings until 1964 and post offices until 1972. No historical practice dating back to the 1700s justified the ban, she said.
Mizelle said allowing the federal government to restrict visitors from bringing guns into government facilities as a condition of admittance would allow it to "abridge the right to bear arms by regulating it into practical non-existence."

Best Budget (under $2k) non Chinese made 34mm FFP 5-25x range scopes?

what are some of the best budget (maybe $2k and under) non Chinese made 34mm FFP scopes in the 5-25x mag range? ive been out of the loop for many years and looking to scope up a few LR builds that have been in the safe for a while. I have been a huge fan of Japanese made Bushnell Elite tactical scopes years ago. not sure if they are still leaders in this area anymore?

*uses are for plinking/target practice 500-1500yds and non competitive fun
*Deer Hunting 100-800 yds (occasionally more)
*LR pig & Varmint hunting 100-1500 yds

Calibers 6.5CM, 308, 300WM

ive gotten used to FFP now and having the ability to quickly range estimate at any zoom range. no plans to do any competitions or anything.

Vaxxed coworker has Covid. I, unvaxxed, still do not. Let's see what happens

I traveled to work with a coworker, he just tested positive for covid. He is vaxxed. I am not.

I have been warned to be careful and should I have any symptoms, to inform work immediately and then quarantine.

We traveled in adjoining seats and talked a lot, so I was "exposed".

I am taking zinc and ivermectin and D3.

Let's see what happens.

Day 1: I feel fine.

I need the account Not the Fucking Story

I don't give a shit about the story you want to tell me,

Yes, you tried buying something a scammer saw you wanted it, he reached out pretending to be the seller wanting payment to fool you into thinking you were paying the seller. He is spoofing the seller.

Yes we fucking know this already ... we have told you this at nauseam and still

Call me I have a story tell, someone tried scammer me... no report, just a story

I dont' give a fuck about your story, all you have to do is protect yourself at all times, pay attention to contacting you, and when the scammer does, cause someone will, you hit the report button.

It requires YOU, YES FUCKING YOU THE GUY READING THIS to do your part and pay attention

The name is modified, a period, a lower case letter, a space, it's modified, the post count is non existent, which is your red flag,

No post count, it's a scammer, period in the name, it's a scammer, if you publicly say, I'll take it, the next message will be a scammer

I am hammering about 20 accounts a day, when you report them, but again, if you don't fucking report them I can't help you and I am not calling you, for any reason. You got scammed, not me, if you paid attention they would be gone, but instead then found a glory where everyone wants a cheap dick. Stop looking for cheap dicks, they don't exist.

pay attention and report the account, even if they say, call my buddy he has it, that is a scammer too

Cordless tools, how far they have come.....

Something a little lighter for a change.

I took both of these drills out of the box new, only about 50 years apart.....good god 50 years.

The Makita was "it". The drill, top of the line and in its day was flat amazing. Nothing came close, there was nothing else when it came out.

I doubt the Milwaukee ever was top of the line, but it is a good drill, and has been used quite a bit. And taken a great deal of abuse.

The Makita died many years ago, and for some reason I hung onto it. Likely because it was so expensive when I bought it. About a year ago I decided to see what was wrong with it, and see if I could fix it. Sure enough, just a wire off the mechanical trigger was the issue, little solder and the drill turned. I ordered some new Amazon batteries and the think works. But man it sucks next to that "new" drill.

I remember having a bunch of batteries for the thing, and changing them all the time, but don't remember this little power. But I think it has not lost much over the years, I think the new tools have just gotten that much better.

So in an effort to lighten up a bit, do you have any old tools that you kept and still use on at least a once and a while basis.

I do still use the Makita, and it makes me smile with every hole, and every screw. If you are really "trying to get something done" it is not the tool to grab, but if you are "goofing around", it does bring something to the table that the new tools just cant.

Rifle Scopes FFP Scopes

Looking for some suggestions for a scope for my new rifle. I’m shooting a 300 win mag. Looking for a scope for hunting and target shooting. I’ve been looking at the 4-20 zoom range with a first focal plane. Illumination would be preferred. I’ve looked at the Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22x50 FFP but have heard some poor rating on the turrets, and also the Burris veracity ph but didn’t like the lack of vertical MOA lines on the optic. $800-$1400 price range, would prefer made or at least have the parts manufactured in the US, Japan, or Europe.

Precision Rifle Gear Garmin Xero Trade-Up program

Some of you remember when I did this Trade-Up program for MagentoSpeeds from V2 -> V3.

Since most of use only need a single well functioning ballistic chronograph I am offering a trade-in for your existing working ballistic Chronograph towards a Garmin Xero C1 Pro Ballistic Chronograph.

First off - your going to be better off selling your Lab Radar or MagnetoSpeed directly to someone person to person. However some people don't care too much about making the most money off their equipment, they just don't see the need to keep around more than one functioning device, and so like the convenience of trading their in on a new unit. So please don't complain that you think I am not giving folks a good deal, if you feel that way, this deal is not for you.

LabRadar Code = xero-lab-trade
MagnetoSpeed Code = xero-mgv3-trade

I am giving trade-in value of $100 for a completely functional LabRadar with the original accessories (and anything else you want to send that you want to include).
I am giving trade-in value of $75 for a completely functional MagnetoSpeed V3 with the original accessories.

To take advantage of this program, purchase the Garmin on my website here: https://www.bisontactical.com/garmin-xero-c1-pro-ballistic-chronograph/

And use the coupon code at checkout for the trade-in value. Then ship me your device. Once we have the device here, and validate it works, we will ship your Garmin.

Some questions you may ask:

Q. Will I pay additional for accessory X?
A. No, feel free to sell it by itself, or include it with what your trading in.

Q. Will I provide a credit for a different Ballistic Chronograph? Ex. MagnetoSpeed Sporter?
A. No, only LabRadar (not lite version), and MagnetoSpeed V3's are a part of the program.

Q. How long will this deal last?
A. 3 more months.

Q. How do I buy the trade-ins your getting?
A. Click on these links to see if we have inventory:

Warfare with weeds?

I have been reading recently, about all these pesticide resistant, highly invasive asian weeds that are popping up in US states. Typically in midwest states that provide a lot of the grains, soy and cattle that feeds US citizens. My mind immediately went to the paper written by a couple colonels in the PLA, Unrestricted Warfare. Its basically a manual on how to cripple the US without using military weapons.

Its a disturbing thought

Somebody please explain the Nightforce SHV vs NXS to me

I'm not a rich guy and I settled for the Nightforce SHV 3-10x42 scope for a good general purpose scope. My goal was a scope with no more than 3X on the low end, prefer 10-12X on the top, dialable elevation, illuminated reticle and a reticle with wind holds. I wanted this on a Steyr Scout for literally everything. Snap shots at 10 yards, hunting Central Virginia pastureland out to 250ish and taking long range classes out to 1000. I wanted light weight and tried to keep it under 20 ounces.

No such thing exists. Not even close. Everything is either too heavy, turret can't dial enough (f-you Leupold), no wind holds (f-you again Leupold) or no illumination. I didn't care about FFP because if the top end is 10X, the need for it is radically diminished.

The only thing that met my criteria was the Nighforce NXS 2.5-10X42. Being a cheap bastard, I noticed that the SHV was pretty similar. I spoke to a guy at Nightforce and was told the glass is actually the same between the two. I figured that was a good savings of $600 if the glass is really the same.

It worked. It was okay. I quickly noticed that when shooting longer ranges however, that everything just seemed washed out. Nothing was crisp. It was noticeable at 350 and by 600, it was really bad. I took a class with it and was making hits at 1040 but it was a struggle to see good definition at that range.

Somebody once asked me if the lack of parallax bothered me and I said, "ummm... what?" I didn't get it. I have since figured out that this is a much bigger issue than I had though. I now have a Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18X44 and even when dialed back to 10X, the image is just sharp and clear.

My question is this. Is my problem with the Nightforce the glass or the lack of parallax? I have thought about selling the SHV and getting the NXS but if the glass is the same and the glass is the issue, that will not solve anything. I could also get one of the new Leupold Mark 4 2.5-10X42 which should have better glass but doesn't have parallax adjustment, just like the SHV. Will I be in the same boat with that?
