Why is the XTRIII so popular?

The last thread I started turned into a soap opera (albeit entertaining) I'd like to avoid that this time around

Before I bought the Cronus, while shopping around, I never gave the XTRIII any serious consideration. The XTRIII looks really nice, but the reticle seems very convoluted and hard to read (I perfer easy-to-read .2 markings) ,other scopes in this price range have better glass, and I've never heard anyone say "damn those Burris turrets are incredibleeee" so....

...if it doesn't have the best glass
...or turrets
...or reticle
...or FOV
...doesn't parallax down to 10 yards
...the elevation is 90 MOA vs. 110 MOA in comparitive scopes

I mean this very sisncerely (no drama allowed lol)....what am I missing??

It worked so poorly it’s resulted in 3 federal lawsuits

In the shittiest shit hole in my ever shittier state (though I’m in rural farm county and love it !) Detroit PD has been using a very Shitty AI facial recognition program to identify criminals, because they are absolutely useless in solving crimes - like when they had 11,000 untested rape kits in a storage unit that had homeless living in it and stealing evidence from it . Anyhow the relatively new program has already resulted in 3 federal lawsuits and to date hasn’t actually solved a crime or identified the correct person. But not ones to give up easily on a terrible idea and being fresh out of fresh ideas it’s still being used . Resulting in an 8month pregnant lady - with no tattoos being identified as a Jack jacker and armed robber . And maybe there are several hugely pregnant armed robbers but this particular armed robber they were looking for had lots of tattoos and wasn’t obviously extremely pregnant. But not being easily deterred while preforming the people’s business they proceed with the arrest and all charges were later dropped because of lack of evidence and a new federal lawsuit was filed on Aug 8th.

The only comment this far from DPD “we were just doin hour job and arrested who the machine told us to arrest “.

Vudoo’ed Help

My buddy bought a Vudoo, and that thing has been giving him fits.. If he runs Lapua he will get feeding issues on the 8-9th round on a 10 round mag.. it’s like clock work. If we run Eley club (practice ammo) runs fine.. We have stretched the mag springs, it’s in a MDS XRS Chassis.. The bolt will pass over the bullet. Since Eley works and Lapua doesn’t what ever the fix is has to be a small adjustment, only difference in that ammo is .02 ish right. But it’s an important .02 apparently

SOLD SPF - NIB SR-25 6.5CM Upper - $6300

*SPF*

Gunbroker is a funny thing. You can lose auction after auction and then suddenly win one on what you thought was a throw away low bid. This is great unless you then also win a second auction that also had what you thought was a low bid for the exact same item. This happened to me and now I have two 6.5cm uppers for an SR-25, and while I may want two I only need one.

My GB bad-good luck is your gain. I'm selling one of them, unfired by anyone but the factory, for $6300 shipped (insurance extra). That is more than some of the recent auctions have closed for but take it from me, by the time you figure in the GB fees this is as cheap as they are likely to get.

I can take checks (clears before shipping) and cash for this, since unfortunately the electronic payments providers frown on this type of item. For sale only where legal.

Small Frame Reciever Set Opinion

Looking for opinions from the experienced gas gun shooters on how important monolithic-style uppers are for a precision 5.56 build.

Looking to start my first precision-minded build mostly for fun/ maybe some competition in the future. Debating between choosing a Mega set (proprietary handguard that mounts to upper, tight lock-up, thermal fit) vs an ADM or Radian set (full ambi, non-thermal, traditional handguard mount off the barrel nut).

How would you weight the importance of features in your experience?

Or alternatively, anyone ever put a Mega upper on a ADM lower?

Thanks,
Clint

PRS FFP scope with thicker reticles?

Looking for suggestions, as I get older I am having a lot of trouble resolving my reticle subtentions for hold overs/hold unders. Currently running a mk5hd 5-25x with PR2. I have to be in the 18x or greater range to discern the reticle, which is compromising my target acquisition.

At this point I would even consider something like. 4-20x if I had a line thickness of greater then 0.03. Maybe go to a half mil subtention scope with a 0.05 line thickness if I can find one.

Seeking advice for pharmaceuticals in off-grid/wilderness med kit

As the title states, I am seeking advice from the medical professionals on this forum for expanding my first-aid/urgent care kit.

I am well stocked and trained for dealing with traumatic injuries to the musculoskeletal apparatus in austere environments. I also have means and knowledge to address severe hemorrhages and penetrating chest wounds as much as one could expect from a layman. But there is a gap in my medical preparedness that became obvious recently when I experienced two medical issues that in themselves were not critical but severely reduced my ability to fend for myself. Fortunately, these incidents happened in "civilization" and not where they could have become a life-threatening problem.

The first incident was an acute corneitis on the left eye several months ago. My left eye is corrected, via a contact lens, for distant vision while the right eye is uncorrected for proximity focus. (This is called monovision and actually pretty cool since I can have both iron sights and target in focus with both eyes open and the brain merging the information.)
The result of the corneal inflammation in the left eye was that I had to remove the contact lens and could not focus any further than a few feet in bright daylight and that both eyes were watering profusely like having just cut some potent onions. Not a big deal when you are home but a serious problems when you HAVE to walk in the woods or drive in urban traffic. I tried an improvised eyepatch but the healthy eye was still watering like crazy adding to the already severe acuity degradation from loosing distant vision. And lets not forget the distraction from the pain, which was substantially more annoying than the worst tooth ache I ever experienced. A prescription eyedrop formulation containing an antibiotic and corticosteroid resolved the debilitating symptoms in less than an hour. It took a few more days before I could put the contact lens back in the left eye but the pharmaceutical intervention got me quickly "back in the fight".

I am currently recovering from the second hit that started with one of my terriers snuggling against my neck and face. Unfortunately for me, he must have just pursued some critter in poison ivy without me noticing it. Long story short, on day three both of my eyes were swollen shut and yours truly was down for the count again.

Luckily a friend and MD stopped by, saw my grotesquely disfigured face, prescribed Methylprednisolone (another corticosteroid) plus Benadryl and got it for me from the local pharmacy. Similarly to the experience with the corneal inflammation the debilitating symptoms receded within the first hour of taking the medicine and another hour later I can now type these words. I am going to stay off the wheel while taking the Benadryl but I could continue to hike and sustain my life outdoors at this point if needed.

What other scenarios are common that can easily be resolved with the right medicine but could otherwise lead to a critical debilitation? What pharmaceuticals should therefore be included in a medical kit for austere environments? (I can get the prescription for whatever is useful and pledge to learn and understand the use and contraindications similar to gaining the knowledge for applying mechanical and plumbing remedies.)

ARC Nucleus Gen 2 Sear Issues

Okay so I have been researching like crazy and see lots of different trigger issues and fitment issues between this combo but not this exact issue. If there is already a thread that covers this issue please point me to it.

I have a Nucleus Gen2 bought it as a barreled action from PVA and had them install a Timney Elite Hunter Trigger on it. I put it in a KRG Bravo. I've put about 300 rounds down the tube no issues at all. The last time I was out I noticed that depending on how I run the bolt I can make it so that the sear doesn't engage on bolt lift or in the rearward cycle of the bolt. When this happens and I pick up a new round it chambers no problem however the firing pin is already forward since the trigger never reset.

I have pulled the gun apart and made sure all screws are torqued properly I've relieved the trigger housing of the bravo with a dremmel and checked to make sure everything is clean and not greasy or gummed up with anything. I don't see any binding to my knowledge!

I have noticed that dry firing after I pull the trigger if I push forward on the rear of the bolt and lift it I can more repeatedly replicate the issue. I have not had any issues with slam fires leading up to this. I have drop tested the rifle to make sure the pull weight isn't to light. I did not mess with the trigger getting it from PVA. I don't know if they set it or if it's in a factory configuration. I do not have a pull gauge to test the trigger.

Anyone have experience with an issue like this?

Impact 737, Proof pre-fit, MDT ACC Elite vs AI AT-X for PRS

Which is the best rifle for a beginner PRS shooter

  • Impact 737, Proof Barrel, MDT ACC Elite

  • Accuracy International AT-X

    Votes: 20 40.0%

I have a question I wanted to pose to the hide. I need help deciding on how best to spend my limited time.

Back story is I started competing in PRS matches a few years ago. Love doing it, but definitely a novice. Both rimfire and centerfire. Of course, the matches are less frequent than I would like, which means time is important.

By way of being a lunatic and going on a buying spree, I ended up with several rifles and rifle builds to pick from. I’m now trying to focus on just one to ensure I’m enjoying my competition time. I’m struggling on which to pick, though.

Option A: Impact 737R, Proof carbon pre-fit barrel, MDT ACC Elite chassis, TT Diamond. Rifle is pretty good, but I feel like I get some random fliers occasionally. Also, I built it and I’m worried I don’t have enough knowledge to ensure it runs flawlessly and is as accurate as possible. Fairly comfortable behind the rifle.

Option B: Accuracy International AT-X. I have several AIs and love them. I’m very comfortable behind their systems. I wanted to try their competition rifle. Unfortunately, it has never been shot. I was seduced by the bolt throw of the Impact, so this has been a safe queen since I purchased it new last year.

Both rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
