    GAP pedigrees

I tried to do a search on the site to find the answer but I must have been using the wrong search terms. I'm trying to figure out who built my GAP rifle. After having it for 4+ years, I finally pulled the action from the stock tonight to look for the gunsmith's imprint. I found it, pictured...

Accuracy of a bone stock Remington 700

Odd as it may seem, I recently bought my first Remington 700 (this doesn't include custom rifles based on the 700 action, which I have)...I have a few dozen rifles but none of them were a plain ole 700. It's a used SPS (the base one, not the varmint or tactical) with the detachable magazine...

    Hunting & Fishing 3 1/2" magnum load

I was turkey hunting yesterday (unfortunately, came back without a bird) and towards the end of the day I figured I might as well test out a different type of load in my shotgun (a Mossberg 835 Ultimag with 20" bbl). I usually shoot 3" shells for turkey in this shotgun and have had very good...

Hell of a deal on a double rifle case

I bought one of these SKB double rifle cases from Amazon a few months back for $200 and it's now going for $168 (free shipping, no tax) under the ATA name. My case was outstanding for a recent flight to Wyoming, carrying two rifles and all sorts of hunting gear. If you're in the market, this...

    Hunting & Fishing Wyoming Antelope

Just got back from a Wyoming antelope hunt and had some success. More in the dinkalicious side but a satisfying hunt nonetheless. I took the smaller one with my GAP Rock and was pretty impressed with how easy it was to lug around that heavy rifle (15+ lbs with scope). The shot was a bit under...

Hunting & Fishing Wyoming Unit 9

A friend and I are heading out to Wyoming Unit 9 (around Lusk) for antelope on the opener. If anyone has advice on the walk in areas that have good prospects I'd like to hear more. Thanks.

    Photos Thanks, GAP

I took a half day from the office to check out some recent load development for my GAP Rock .308 and was pretty happy with the results. The 10 shot group on the right is from 100 yards with 168 gr Hornady Amax loads. The 5 shot group on the left is also 100 yards with 168 gr Hornady BTHP match...

Double rifle cases-will 2 scoped rifles fit?

I've been searching through discussions and reviews on double rifle cases and it seems that some cases, the SKB double rifle in particular, can hold two unscoped rifles but not scoped ones. I'm going to be flying from CA to WY later this year for an antelope hunt and am bringing two rifles...

How do you do it in the south???

I admit that I have very low tolerance for heat coupled with humidity (despite the fact that I lived in New York City for 8 years) and I'm in New Orleans right now for a family event. I just gave up on trying to do anything that didn't have an air conditioner associated with it. So my question...

Hunting & Fishing Sidearms when hunting

I had a bit of a debate with my brother this weekend over the subject of carrying a sidearm when deer hunting with a rifle. It got me thinking about what other people do, so here's my questions: 1. Do you carry a sidearm when hunting deer/elk/antelope/other big game with a rifle? 2. If yes...

    Rifle Scopes Nikon BDC reticle?

Natchez is having a sale on "refurbished" (they claim that they aren't actually refurbed, just unsold units from a large retailer) scopes. One of them is this Buckmasters scope with a BDC reticle. At $149, it seems to be a screaming bargain. Has anyone ever used the Nikon BDC reticle...

Best way to get sand out?

I have some pretty fine grained sand inside the works of some magazines and other parts (luckily, not the rifle itself) and it seems to be a particularly sticky variety that's taking a lot of time to get out. Does anyone have a miracle cure for getting sand out or is elbow grease the best way?

Pictures of an AICS without the skins?

Anyone have a picture of an AICS without the skins? For no reason in particular I was wondering what the stock looked like bare.

    Barrel life on a Kimber 84M 7-08?

I just picked up a Kimber 84M in 7-08 and plan to use it primarily for hunting, so the round count should be pretty tame. I've never had a Kimber or a 7-08 before so I'm wondering what kind of barrel life I should expect out of this one. Thanks

    Truck bedliner question

Just got a new truck and am torn between a drop in bedliner (which I had in the last truck and which worked fine for me) and a Line-X spray in liner. Anyone have strong opinions on whether the spray in is worth the extra $200? I don't use the truck for heavy loads, just for hunting, dump runs...

Hunting & Fishing Success with a duck call, finally.

After years of watching ducks avoid my area whenever I was foolish enough to try my hand at using the duck call, I finally bagged a duck with the help of a call. I was hunting this morning and all of the ducks were sticking to the stratosphere. I got a bit tired of seeing the little dots that I...

Bolt or semi auto for a new shooter?

I'm about to get my nephew his first real gun and want it to be a .22 rifle. I remember learning to shoot using a Sears bolt action .22 (for anyone not old enough to remember, there really was a Sears branded rifle, though I think it was made by Remington for Sears) and I'm thinking that a bolt...

Hunting & Fishing Venison, it's what's for breakfast

...for a mt lion that snagged himself a fawn this morning. Came across him and his kill as I was leaving for a mt bike ride. The cat ran off as soon as he saw me coming and I had to take a few cell phone pics. Cats are pretty efficient at picking and choosing what parts they eat and what they...

Hunting & Fishing How many others do you hunt with?

I was talking to some non-hunting friends and mentioned that I was planning a hunting trip soon. I was asked who else would be going with me and I responded that I usually hunt alone and prefer it that way (I'm talking about day hunts, not treks into the back country for multiple days). I do...
