Range Report Ballistic AE .. what is it missing that you want..

you have to change the max distance when you create the ballistic table and save your favorite. To fix, open your favorite you want to fix and hit the arrow at the top and hit load. Then change max distance to what you want and calculate then resave favorite.

In the range log, you should be able to designate the aiming point on the target and then when you designate the impact holes the program should give you the x/y distance from your aiming point since you have scaled the target. It should then give you data to adjust your scope to center the group.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but I just downloaded Ballistic AE and I have been playing around with the various features, etc. I want to apply spin correction and it asks for twist rate and projectile length. I'm shooting Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain A-Max, and I can't find any data on bullet length? I guess I can just estimate the length, but I'm surprised that this piece of data is not easily available...unless it is and I just don't see it :)

If you choose the 140 amax under the litz option and go down to and click on spin and stability there is a box that will show the bullet length. You must use the litz numbers for it to show up I believe. The 140 amax is 1.375 as per the info shown.

That worked. Thank you!

I installed the AE update on my iPad and now when I go to targets and try to input data it crashes?

I currently don't have a handheld weather meter (like a Kestrell 4000...maybe Santa has one). But I just started playing around with Ballistic AE on my iPhone, and I see it has an interesting weather feature:

"One-Touch Atmosphere (tm) (Core Location)
Correct your calculations for the current atmosphere by pressing the Core Location button. Your altitude, standard pressure, temperature, relative humidity, and wind velocity will be automatically set based on your current location and information from one of three weather services (NMI, NOAA, and GeoNames)."

Does anybody have any experience using this feature? Is it fairly reliable/accurate? Has anybody compared the readings to that of their handheld weather meter? I can understand that the wind readings are unlikely to reflect the situation in front if you, but I'm particularly curious if the Density Altitude is fairly accurate?

It's accurate depending on how close you are to the local weather station is it better than nothing .... yes is it as good as having your own weather meter with you .... No

Makes sense. Thank you for this.

Two requests:

1) Let us edit the name in the favorites tab (only option under the edit is delete)

2) Let us hide certain fields in the Bullet Trajectory Chart.

Also, I noticed an error.
When selecting the .308 175 gr Sierra SMK bullet, it gives you the Auto BC. Once you hit calculate trajectory, the data is wrong in the "Variable Ballistic Coefficient" Box. It shows the wrong velocities:

BC Min Velocity Max Velocity
.505 0 -
.496 2800 -
.485 1800 -

It should be:

BC Min Velocity Max Velocity
.505 2800 and Above
.496 1800 2800
.485 0 (and Below) 1800

A way to adjust muzzle velocity for ammo temperature in a non-linear fashion would be a great feature.

+1

Here is a nice article on the subject at hand, moreover it explains why the right way to do this is going non-linear (as required), since there are many drawbacks to consider, especially at extreme ranges.

Air Temperature Effects On Muzzle Velocity

99.9% of the programs rely on an extremely simple linear increase, which is not the way to go. To my knowledge only ColdBore 1.0 does it.

I'm trying to find a picture of the clean Gen II XR Reticle with a clear background however I cannot find one. Any suggestions? I'd like to upload this for the rangefinder.

Can you delete an optics profile? I put my nightforce in and forgot to change from mil to moa on scope. I knew right away something was wrong!

Go to the optics profile then swipe to the left across the selection you want to delete. A delete box will appear then you can start over with a new profile.

Just downloaded the update and can't get any load to work, deleted profile and tried to make a new one no go. Reset defaults = no go. It keeps popping up the error pm convert units ()() unknown unit. Anyone else?

Same here.... Wtf? Favorites or trying to calc a new one does the same thing.

Ha! Now I'm getting it but only when I put in a "LOS Angle". Tried resetting my phone and everything. No luck.

Add me to the list... Just getting the gear ready to hunt in the morning and after updating to 5.0.1 my profiles/favorites won't calculate....
"Unable to calculate ballistics for these conditions. pm_convert_units(): unknown unit"

I have tried everything...deleting all favorites and profiles and resetting to default. Bummed to no end right now.

Running on an iPod with iOS 6.1.5

Edit: Also had several hard crashes when I was trying to work with favorites.

What am I doing wrong here. On the Trajectory screen (as pictured below) the bullet drop in mrad seems to be off 1 decimal place? Do I have something entered wrong. At 400 yards my bulled drop is not 22.3 mrad it's more like 2.23. The elevation units is set at mrad and not .1mrad clicks.

Shooterken Go to iPhone Settings, then Ballistic. Under the Trajectory section, click on Output Precision. Select Hundredths.

Not sure why your DOPE is really off though.

Capt Academy, I switched MOA and I had the same type of result.

Shotdown, Switching the output to hundredths didn't resolve the problem.

I don't know if its been mentioned, but any chance of a landscape mode?

I'm having the same issues, reinstalled and still the same

I'm not sure if this helps but, I was having all all kinds of weird results and stuff that just didn't make sense so on the trajectory screen I hit the action button in the upper right corner of the screen and selected "reset defaults" and it cleared things up.

shit, maybe I can get some help here...so when I first open the program and go straight to the HUD, the Density Altitude is listed as an input option. However, as soon as I select a bullet or a favorite load, the DA input option goes away and the standard atmospheric conditions are then in its place.

I have tried just about every damn thing I can think of, to no avail.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Anyone have any ideas, updates or solutions for the error several of us are experiencing?
"Unable to calculate ballistics for these conditions. pm_convert_units(): unknown unit"

Are people seeing this on the new iOS as well?

You must calc and save the favorite using DA then when you choose it in HUD the da option will be there.

WTF? Same here!

I emailed about this and an update should be out soon to fix it. For now you must turn off DA and run the calcs with the atmospheric inputs. If your favorites are saved with DA then they won't work until the fix.

So, from the trajectory screen, I pick my bullet, etc..etc...but even on that screen, it does not allow me to input DA, specifically. It has the normal altitude, pressure, humidity, temp inputs. I guess my question is, is how do I get to the point that you're talking about, tiger?

Thanks for the help! I feel like a real techno-tool right about now.

go into the iphone settings "app" then look for ballistic AE. scroll down to the "units of measure" section and select "atmosphere" at the bottom. choose "format" at then select Density Altitue. If you have the lastest version it will give you an error as seen in the previous post, until the update with the fix comes out soon. until then use the meteorological atmosphere setting.
