Up for grabs are two Nightforce NXS [new old stock] optics with no boxes.

2)2.5-10x32mm

Both optics were mounted on rifles as a display and then put in storage, so they should be thought of as demos. Neither has been to a range or in the field.

The only trades I'd be interested in would be Mil based equivalent optics.

Another Useless Cartridge Idea

The title says it all, but with all the ideas that are thrown out there on a regular basis, and given my inability to be content with any rifle for very long, I figured let's get some fireworks going, or at the very least be told I should pick a new hobby :ROFLMAO:

I always seem to be looking for the perfect do-it all rifle, not great at any one shooting discipline, but better in most areas than your average rifle/cartridge combo. And what I mean by this is shooting to practical distances/scenarios with portable rifles, not 28-30", 20lb plus pieces of artillery.

After having all the common calibers (.224, .243, 6.5, 7, .30, .338) , I have come to the conclusion that a mid-capacity .30 caliber is the best option for me. Which is probably the reason why I am currently shooting a long action 300 WSM. However, while I am enjoying it, I feel like there is room for improvement.

Enter the 7 PRC necked up to .30 caliber. Since it was announced, I believed the 7 PRC was the perfect .284 cartridge, and best fit for the rifle I thought I wanted, but remembering my experience with a 7 SAUM at a mile with spotting misses and hearing how much better .30's anchor elk at long distance than 7's, I changed the build to a 22" 300 WSM, and began playing with 2 of my favorite bullets, the 215 Berger and 225 ELD.

Accuracy out to 600 yards has so far been stellar with the 215 Berger at 2725 fps and on a braked, 15lb rifle the recoil is very mild. I'm thinking another 100 fps or a 225 ELD at 2700 would be ideal, and given the powder charges I've been using I don't see it happening with the WSM. Of course there will be plenty of people that start screaming that a 300 Win or 300 PRC will do what you want, no problem. And they are absolutely correct, but at the expense of more powder, more recoil and less barrel life, and most likely less efficient because of a lower powder charge in a larger volume case. Or maybe I'm just splitting hairs and need to tell myself the last thing we need is another new cartridge that doesn't do anything different than cartridges that are currently available.

There's nothing ideal about shooting a mild, 215/225 .30 caliber at 1 mile but I'm not looking for ideal, and that's the point of this. The 300 WSM is as close to perfect given what's currently available but having a true long action cartridge for reliable feeding and squeezing out a little more velocity without making the next level jump to 300 Win/PRC is where I'm at with this idea. Kind of a modern day 30-06 length cartridge on steroids.

I'm confident most people will say why would any major company go through the aggravation of R&D for a cartridge that gives you such a slight increase over 1 cartridge and falls short of many others and the answer is most probably wouldn't and I'm barking up the wrong tree, yet I feel like many companies have gone down this rabbit hole before, for example Winchester, Remington and Hornady all had their hands in the pot with their own short action .30's in the early 2000's and they were all closer in performance then what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I like the idea of a .30 caliber from zero to 1 mile over any other bullet diameter and I used to be a speed guy, but I'm not anymore so squeezing every ounce of performance out of the smallest case possible is why I'm talking about this.

Ok let's hear it. I'm sure my buddy is rolling is eyes as he reads this.

Comet viewing for those who are so inclined -- Nishimura

If you have a good set of binoculars or a good spotter... and want to get up early... Comet Nishimura is approaching its brightest. In fact, this one may soon be visible with the naked eye.

It should be visible close to Venus early in the morning...

Bright green, apparently. Lots of copper in this one perhaps?

Cheers,

Sirhr

Rifle Scopes 10x Rifle scope capabilities

I have a 3.5-10 power on my .270 win , heading out west with a mule deer deer tag in my pocket.

Just posting to gather some info on other shooters more experienced than I with shooting a 10x and what effective ranges of different people are. My local clubs range only goes to 300 and I do pretty good with it off the 300 yard line but I'm curious on thoughts for 5 or 600 on targets or game who's done it thoughts?

SBR large game hunting

So I am looking to buy/build a light, short barrel rifle (around 10-12 inches), but I want it to be able to take down anything in north america. I would like to suppress it, and run subsonic as well as supersonic, without too much recoil or sound. I am looking at something like the christensen arms mpp, but they only come in 6.5 creedmoor (may work?), 308 (probably too loud and too much recoil), and 300 black out (not enough power?)

Looking at the 8.6 blackout sounds great (they are taking down cape buffalo in with a 10" barrel), you can shoot subsonic, has low recoil, and is quit with a supressor. Basically everything sounds good. However I am not sure I buy all the hype, the ammo is expensive, and from what I understand it can fall apart due to the 1:3 twist rate with hypersonic rounds. Also I am not sure if this round will even last.

Other things I have looked at is 450 bushmaster (recoil may be high in a light short barrel, and sound may also be high?), 6.5 grendel (not sure if it is powerful enough?), 375 raptor, 300 black out (not powerful enough?)

Any ideas or suggestions?

Poll: Mike Pence, Chris Christie Own Worst Favorability Ratings in GOP Field

Only three in ten Republican primary voters hold favorable views of former Vice President Mike Pence, earning him the second-worst rating of any Republican presidential candidate behind former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), according to a national poll.

The Wall Street Journal poll, conducted by Fabrizio, Lee, & Associated and GBAO, found that 63 percent of Republican primary voter respondents see Pence in an unfavorable light, including 36 percent who see him “very unfavorably.” Conversely, only 30 percent hold positive perceptions. In other words, his net rating among GOP voters is -33.
His favorability has dropped considerably since April’s Wall Street Journal poll, when 54 percent of the population saw him positively and 35 percent viewed him negatively. This marks a staggering 52-point swing in the wrong direction in five months’ time.

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), with a net favorability rating of -55 among Republicans, is in even worse shape than Pence. Only 18 percent view Christie in a positive light, while 73 percent disapprove of him.

Former President Donald Trump, the leading GOP candidate by a wide margin, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) hold the strongest net ratings in the field at +52 and +46, respectively. Three in four Republican primary voters find Trump favorable, while just twenty-three percent do not. Similarly, DeSantis is liked by 70 percent of GOP voters and disliked by 24 percent.

The pair topped the field in April, with DeSantis holding a slightly better rating than Trump, but his 84 percent favorability rating from back then has dropped considerably, while his unfavorability registered 15 points less than it does now.

Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) is 28 points above water, with 54 percent having positive perceptions and 28 percent seeing her negatively. Her fellow Palmetto State politician, Sen Tim Scott (R-SC), fares better, with a 64 percent approval rating and a 12 percent unfavorability rating.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who has become the target of his rivals following his ascent in the polls, is liked by 55 percent of the GOP electorate, while just over a quarter of them see him negatively, the poll reveals.

The pollsters sampled 1,500 registered voters from August 24-30, including 600 Republican primary voters. The margin of error is ± 2.5 percentage points.

DAMN, WHODATHUNK?

Nips in the wire.

This shouldn't be any surprise. Chinese nationals have been walking unimpeded across Obiden's open border and have now broken into military bases here in the U.S. claiming to be 'tourists' as they gather sensitive information.

Examples of the gate crashing included instances of Chinese nationals crossing into a missile range in New Mexico and scuba divers swimming near a rocket launch site in Florida.

U.S. officials believe these intrusions are an effort to gauge the security practices at these sensitive sites, and the gate-crashers report back what they learn to the Chinese government, the report added. Gee, 'ya think?

YouTube rural deradicalization subversive

BLUF Per the article linked bellow Revolver News asserts that YouTuber “Beau of the Fifth Column” is a glowie & possibly a Fed asset.

Revolver claims that he was busted on human trafficking charges, in Eastern Europe, a while back and oddly he was able to keep most of his assets with the reason why being sealed.

Apparently this guy is in the “Deradicalization of Rural America” business. And per Revolver, is being supported by Silicon Valley & the ADL.

Wonder how many others are out there in YouTube?
