I blew up my rifle!

After 40 years of reloading, I think I finally screwed up ..... I think.

I was working up a new subsonic load (300 blackout) for one of my rifles, just a plain Jane AR15 that I've had a few years. I saw a load on Ultimate Reloader on YT and thought I'd give it a try. Berry's 220 gn plated bullets over 9, 9.5 and 10gn of H110, COAL 2.230", loaded 10 of each.
First shot .... BOOM! Thought I'd lost my hand! I rarely shoot with my left hand on the magazine but this time .... yep. It blew the mag to pieces.
You can see in the photos that the case head is still in the bolt face (bolt and upper are toast), the rest of the casing is in the chamber. It sent the bullet and thankfully didn't blow up my suppressor.
I have no idea what happened. My first thought was a double charge, still leaning towards that. I pulled all the others I loaded today and they were all on the money so my powder measure was working fine. I've mic'd a random selection of the bullets, they all measure .308-.3095 (is that acceptable??)
Would a bad case (head separation) be so catastrophic? It tore the bolt apart!
So clearly my upper and bolt are history, would you scrap the barrel too? The lower looks very slightly bulged at the mag housing and it broke the mag catch arm off but seeing as this component doesn't (normally) take any force, and you can by heavily skeletonized versions and polymer ones, I'm thinking I'll be ok to use it again, what do you guys think?
When I pulled the bullets I double charged one just to see if it was possible. It was, kind of. Two loads fit in but with a 220gn bullet it's a very compressed load and the round wouldn't stay at the set length, easing the bullet out a fair bit. It would still fit in the mag I think (didn't try) but I think it would have been noticeable in the box.
So, thoughts on what may have happened and thoughts on reusing the barrel and lower appreciated.

Gas Cooktops

Anybody here work with appliances or geek out on gas cooktops?

My old Dacor just shit the bed yesterday. Looking at getting a new 36" gas cooktop. Budget is around $2k, could stretch it a little more if needed. But if I can get a quality cooktop and save money, I'm all for it.

Curious what people think the good brands and models are? Hard to find any real honest independent reviews on gas cooktops.

Currently looking at options such as the Bosch 800 series in black & GE Cafe. Brands such as Bertazzoni and Fisher & Paykel are on the radar, but know little about them. I'm unsure of Samsung and LG, though one salesperson is trying to talk me into a LG Signature Kitchen Series. If I stretch my budget to $2500, I can get a Wolf, but unsure how much of a functional upgrade that is. Black would look best in our kitchen, but limits a lot of options.

Curious if anyone here recently went down the rabbithole of getting a new gas cooktop, or has knowledge in this arena.

A "Dog" question.

What is the "smartest" breed of dog you have recently owned. Not the one you had as a kid or one you had 30 years ago. Dog breeding has evolved so keep it fairly current.
My hearing is failing and I am looking for a dog that will wake me up if the house is on fire. Not going to breed, show or anything like that. I'm active, in and out and the environment is Montana. I have no cattle. A homestead environment, rural.

VBIED IVO US Canada Border

Apparently a VBIED went off along the US Canada border

Early reporting is saying it was possibly heading to the U.S.

Things may be getting lively soon

Advice On 308 Rifle

Looking for some advice on getting my first 308 bolt rifle. This rifle will serve as my hunting rig for deer and hogs down here in South Texas. I don't want some super lite rifle since all my hunting is either from a hunting blind or on a bipod. Looking for 20" barrel and threaded to run a can. Won't be shooting long distance, most of my hunting shots are less than 300 yards. Smooth action with great accuracy and good weight is what I'm after. Will be shooting factory hunting loads as well. I'd like to stay under the $1200 range, the cheaper the better though. Been looking at Tikka T3X and Savage 110 Rifles. Looked at the Remington 700 SPS Tactical as well but not too sure on how well they are. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Good Feels and Equipment Trickle Down

This was posted by some folks in my area. It’s definitely a feel-good type deal but what I thought was interesting was the use of equipment. I’m new to this forum and new to a lot of the intricacies involved in ballistics and equipment so maybe I’m easily impressed but I thought the adaptation of competition style equipment in this situation was cool. The strides to make tri-pods lighter and the systems more stable has (probably) enabled more people to hunt and made the task of the guides a lot easier as well. Reminds me a lot of war time = significant jumps in trauma medicine.

Tried to Shoot the Dog and Shot the Owner

Does this guy claim that he has vision problems or just a case of buck fever?

"According to the agency, she was shot while walking her dog on private property in Big Flats Township in the early morning hours of Nov. 19. The 62-year-old hunter told the DNR he thought the dog was an antlerless deer, so he fired."

SOLD Stumpies Custom Guns 300 PRC

Selling my custom built 300 PRC put together by Stumpies Custom Guns in Swansboro, NC. Been with me now on a few hunts and is a fantastic rifle. Looking to move towards a 7mm PRC with a 20 inch barrel and found one already configured - so this is going up for sale.

Specs-
Tuebor Action
Proof carbon fiber 22” 300 PRC Sendero contour 1:9 twist with 5/8x24 threading (currently has a rugged suppressors Omnidirectional muzzle brake on it)
MPA ultralight LA chassis in green
Anarchy Outdoors grip
Timney HIT trigger set at around 1lb.
Weight without optic etc is 7 lb 7.2 oz.

Never chrono’d it, just trued ranges and adjusted my kestrel accordingly - with factory 212 ELD-x I’m showing 2860 FPS muzzle velocity.
128 rounds fired through - all factory ammunition. Factory ammo shot well enough for me and I’m not loading my own ammo.

The chassis shows signs of wear - mostly on the arca section where the cerakote has worn from use over time. Doesn’t affect function, but I want to be as transparent as possible.

I am also selling the scope separately.

Asking $3000 for the rifle with two magazines. I’ll have ammo for sale with the rifle or after the rifle sells. This cost me 4300 new.

Items for partial trade-
MTN gear mountain bipod
77 grain TMK ammo
Quality spotting scope

2A NEWS: Federal Appeals Court strikes down state of Maryland's Handgun Purchasing License law.

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA
NOVEMBER 21, 2023

KUDOS and credit to Maryland's hometown 2A activism group Maryland Shall Issue, and gun vendor Atlantic Guns, who were the plaintiffs behind the original 2016 lawsuit that led to today's decisive smackdown delivered by Judge Julius Richardson of the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals.

The wheels of justice may turn slowly, but in Richmond today, they turned as surely as ever. A decisive conclusion by 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Julius Richardson struck down a kneejerk Maryland law passed by Democratic leadership in the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook shootings that required Maryland residents to apply for a special license and undergo a four hour "safety" class as well as a waiting period as long as 30 days for the license approval process before they can purchase a handgun. The 4th Circuit Court found that this rule VIOLATED the basic tenets of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and subjected Maryland citizens who are facing imminent threats of violence from gangs and attempted home invaders to potential serious bodily harm and death by delaying their ability to acquire handguns to protect themselves and their families. It was also found out over a course of research in the process of this lawsuit that the 2013 licensing law and handgun purchase waiting period did almost NOTHING to prevent violent crime or deter potential terroristic assailants from obtaining weapons if they were determined to, but only placed needless and arduous restrictions on hardworking and law abiding people.

In the meantime, Maryland's Democratic governor Wes Moore expressed dismay at today's smacking down of one of the most crucial pieces of Maryland's antigun tyranny, vowing to "review" the case again and appeal the 4th Circuit Court's ruling.

IF ANYBODY WANTS TO CONVEY CONGRATULATIONS, THANKS, AND KUDOS TO THE PLAINTIFFS OF THE ORIGINAL LAWSUIT:

2A News: Oregon judge rules "permit to purchase" law unconstitutional

An Oregon State judge has ruled that Oregon's Measure 114 is unconstitutional and granted plantiffs permanent injunction.

Measure 114 would require those seeking to purchase a firearm to obtain a permit from local authorities, undergo safety training, criminal background check, and require photo ID and fingerprints. The law also would "prohibit manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, possessing, using, or transferring ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds and make violations a class A misdemeanor." Rebarel Tikka 223 into something fun?

I have a Tikka T3x 223 Varmint and the barrel is about shot out. Have it in a CTR stock with AICS DBM.

Want to keep the 223 bolt face and get a pre-fit barrel for it. Not sure what caliber though. This is a pure fun gun, was thinking about a 300Blk dedicated subsonic. I have plenty of .30 suppressors and a Silencerco Hybrid .46 if I want to go bigger. Any other good subsonic options staying with the 223 bolt face? 223-338, 350 legend, something else?

Help me plan a fun gun. I reload, dont mind forming wildcat brass, restrictions are:
223 bolt face, AICS SA mag, pre-fit barrel and subsonic suppressed.
Thanks for playing...

Accessories FS: Garmin Xero C1 NIB $640 shipped

I shot my MS bayonet last month, just in time to put in a pre-order Xero. I decided for now I can stick with a MS and rail that I picked up cheap to use until the Garmin came in. Hopefully I don't shoot this bayonet...

$640 shipped if anyone is looking for one.

I'm OK if it sells or not. If it does sell, I'll use the money to buy something ridiculously cheap on Cyber Monday.
