Scotch Drinkers

I found I like Glenlivet 12. It's the best scotch I've had to date which is not very many. I tried JW Red, Black and Blue and the blue was the best but not the flavor I'm looking for and not in my go to price range. I had a few glasses of JW 18 year this past weekend and it was good, but I still like the Glenlivet better.
I like the Earthy, mossy, taste of the 12. Am I alone in this? I'm looking to try other brands that have the same tasting notes. Looking for a bottle for nightly to weekend pours that run around $100 but would be willing to spend more for the right bottle.
Thanks

Put the book down and walk away thread.

You guys know I read quite a bit. I also like to try to keep an open mind when reading. I like to tell myself I am open to all sides of an argument, as long as all sides are weighted in an equal manner. Most people can't do that however, or lie to themselves telling them that they are doing it.

Generally I read non fiction, and when I do read fiction there is a pretty slanted message behind it, 1984, brave new world, Ayn rand.....you can see the slant there.

I also don't know authors AT ALL. Sitting here the name Jack London popped into my head, and that is because he was in a star trek episode. I could not tell you what he wrote (call of the wild?) or something like that.

Point is I don't know how specific authors lean, I have only done a deep dive on one author and that was Rand.

So now I am reading my new book (half price books is a fantastic place) and before I post up a pic of it I will give on one bit that was talked about in chapter 8 (where I had to walk away)

Talking of one group, the author said to the effect, if the towns people did not agree to follow them they would kill the town leaders, but first it often would be middle ages style torture, followed by burry alive.

When talking of the other side, and towns people suspected of helping the other side, we go very deep into the tortures, getting plyers and ripping out teeth to get the gold fillings, Ripping off fingers to get gold rings. Naturally what happens to girls and women. Blow by blow detail.

See the difference.

Early on in the book it talks about England having the "good sense" to elect a socialist .gov after WWII because if not India, Bruma, Malaysia...........would have never gotten self gov. MMMMKkkkkk.

I had a feeling I knew the slant at that part but kept going.

The spot where I said, I just can't read this anymore was the total glossing over of the tortures inflicted by "the other side".

You might have guessed it by now, with my other topics of late....

I wanted an early history, a what lead up to where we sat in 1963. But I did not get that. It went pretty quick down the France bad, and as a direct result the English and Americans are bad too. But we will not leave anyone out in the bashing, side trips into places like Congo, and other african areas are not forgotten about.

I will do a "review" of the book in the normal thread in a bit,

Really what I am looking for is how often does this happen to you.....and do you keep reading it, or do you just say, nope too much wrong, then move on.

In the time I have started reading like a mad man, I would say 2-3 years ago, I have come across one other that I could not finish and it was on the Spanish-American war.

Just looking to see what other folks do. Not that it really matters, I have closed the cover on this specific book, it is just glossing over too many things and drawing attn to other things. It is not even handed.

One more red pill to add to the pile

I’ve been banging this drum for a while and I will continue to do so.

I'm also pretty outspoken about some variation of low carb/high fat diets. But I’ve recently come across a diet hypothesis that says metabolic health is not about glucose/insulin but mostly about mitochondrial function in every cell of your body. The more efficiently mitochondria can produce atp, the better everything in your body will perform. And lo and behold, heavily refined seed oils are nothing but poison for mitochondria

Really like the concept of M24 style backup irons for my bolt gun. Where buy?

I currently have a Rem 700 long action and am planning to slap a M24 contour barrel on it once I wear the rifling out of the current barrel.

The M24 used by the US Army has iron sight bases screwed onto the barrel that they can easily put irons on in the unlikely event that the scope bites the dust.
I doubt I will ever need to do so but I am a man who enjoys redundancy and all my rifles have irons. I would like to continue that tradition. Where can I find the bases and irons?

Rifle Scopes First NF Atacr. 200 yds blurry at 200 yds

This is my first NF atacr. 5-25x56 moar. Parallax doesnt match yds marked on scope. Read that is common.

The sight clarity at 200 yds full magnification the sight was kinda blurry.

Ive ran razor g2. Razor g3. Kahles. ZCO. Mark 5hd.

All those seem to perform better at full magnification. Im slightly unimpressed with the atacr.

Any one else find the atacr sight quality isnt that good at full magnification?

Any original members here?

While back some young rip-off artist took me for $250 here, rather irritated me but Frank gave me some IP's and I tracked the B*stard down in Houston.
Sent him a photo of his front door and I gleaned major satisfaction from that :)

Anyway I've been building another rifle, albeit slowly.

Hope everyone has as Merry Christmas of course.

Now I have seen everything

I cant get my fingers wrapped around this. A buddy of mine just ordered a rifle that I have not heard of before. Just a normal hunting rig, then i went in and looked at their "Snipery" rigs and I saw this. Who in the hell would ever put a "dust cover" on a bold gun. Is that really needed? Talk about tits on a bull. Just going to leave this here for your viewing pleasure.

This one is a present for someone close to me. As a teen, I spent my summers working on a big grain farm in North Dakota. The owner is more of a Dad to me than mine ever was. He has a birthday coming up and I felt the urge to try and say thank you.

I chambered it in 6.5mm Creed. It works, ammo is easy to find, relatively affordable, and the accuracy/easy-to-shoot behavior of the cartridge fits well for something like this. He's now in his mid-70s but still sharp as a tack.

Around ten years ago a WY Highway Patrolman stopped by to have some work done. He had a 5-digit SN M700. Some quick negotiations rewarded me with his action. It's been in my safe ever since so I decided to put it to work for this. Once I started, I noticed the cocking cam at the back of the bolt needed a lot of work. At some point in its life, somebody messed with it and it didn't go well. I rolled the dice a little for the fix and it worked far better than I had ever expected. I stitched it up with some air-hardening filler rod and a TIG torch. Turned it back down and noticed a couple of small pits where I'd missed a few spots. Silicon bronze filler rod is a pet favorite of mine for stuff like this. I call it "machinist's bondo" as it's great for patching up small inclusions. The best part is, that you don't have to melt the substrate to use it. Just get it hot and dab the rod at the flame kernel on the torch. It'll melt and adhere to the part without any drama. The photos show a few small traces of goldish-colored stuff. That's the S.B. filler.

Cutting the cam feature again was pretty simple. A 4th axis on the mill makes quick work of it.

With that fixed, tuning up the receiver came next. The 5-axis process we've had for a few years now makes this pretty simple. In addition, I did the base holes, added a side release, and set it up for the M40 A1 style base we make.

Stockwork...

I ordered a bunch of blank M40s from McMillan. I was not expecting "smear" finish flat tops, but that's what I got. Inlet the top half, bed it, then back in the machine for the cleanup followed by flipping it over to do the bottom side. I stuck the presentation pad on here and wrapped it up by sticking a couple optional pieces to it. Bipod rail and flush cup hardware. The current trend by some stock makers to gut the inlet like a fish doesn't appeal to me. I get why they do it, the web between the trigger and magwell does tend to crack pretty easily. I started pinning these a long time ago. It's been a good fix for us.

Now we should see some arrests !

Unless most of the names that they are finally going to release are already dead - like former New Mexico governor bill Richards . Lots of the names have already been leaked - but the DOJ and state and local “justice agencies “ have covered for them for 4 years .
But surely the brave men and women who swore to protect and uphold the constitution and the laws of their states will raise to the occasion and start investing these names for human trafficking and sec crimes . For sure now SOMETHING will happen!
