Re: 22/45 upgrades... Tacsol upper, threaded barrel and pic rail. I use a T1 on the rail and an AAC element screwed in front. Volquartsen action internals makes for a sweet trigger.

Re: 16" barrel on a .22 with a can? If I recall an article where Al Paulson progressively chopped down a 22 barrel and crono'd velocity: max velocity was in the 11 to 12 inch range. Velocity actually start to decrease after that. Barrel friction exceeded powder pressure. You should be fine...

Re: Best 1-6x scope, USO? Agree with the poster on the S&B 1.5-6x42. I have one on a 308 hunting rifle. Great at dawn and dusk. I think the flasdot is faster than an illum. reticle. I have a german reticle, not sure about ranging options.
