Just received my left hand Rim-X from Zermatt. Dropped it into my Manners T4A that was bedded for my TL3. I had to modify the bolt handle cut slightly for the swept handle, but it fits nicely now. The receiver and magazines are awesome. Machining, finish, and fit are perfect.

I have a green mountain 20" Heavy Palma on order from Keystone.

Guys I hate to ask for the cliff notes but what makes this a better choice than the V-22? I know that Is going to make for a really subjective set of answers . I’ve been saving for V-22 but this RimX looks like a great setup at the sale price.
Just to confirm the mags are not interchangeable right ? I have a range at home but hope that the PRS rimfire bug hits my area at some point.
thanks

I think they are both very capable platforms. I had a Vudoo. My reason for getting the RimX is that it allows me to chamber my own barrels and do testing since it does not require an extractor cut. The other reason is that it complements my Bighorn tl3 centerfire actions. Third reason is that I have found bighorn/Zermatt is very consistent in their production and their actions match exactly what the print says they should.

What I do not like about the RimX is that if for any reason a round fails to get picked up by the control round feed and Gets pushed into the chamber without being supported and captured by the bolt, the bolt or the extractor will not cam over the rim of the round to pull it out. This failure can not be overcome with an immediate action drill and requires a sharp object to get in between the breech face and the case rim to manually remove the case. This was not an issue with the Vudoo since it would allow you to single feed if needed due to the bolt design. Luckily I have only experienced this failure once and it was not in a match. Not sure what could have caused it aside from poorly seated round in the mag, cycling of the bolt or ????

As for Vudoo mags I’ve only tested two full mags And they worked fine. I don’t have enough rounds tested in the Vudoo mags to say that they are a definite option to the RimX specific mag other than they worked during initial testing.

I hope this info helps.

Alright here is the link to the Group Buy for the first Bartlein Carbon Fiber 22LR RimX prefits out there. They do not sell 22LR Carbon fiber barrels now so you want one, this is the way.

are these with your chamber and are they coming through Keystone?

Should have expanded the post, sorry.

How do your 100 yard groups compare to padoms? I dont see where you posted any. Also I see you’re running a tuner. Were all your 50 yd groups shot with a tuner?

Jeff - Have you run this in your rifle and experienced issues with it?

Thanks - Ray
Ray, I have an order in with Keystone so I don't have a rifle yet. It may feed fine, just from my experience with a lot of different types of magazines there is very little upward pressure on the follower for that last round and after use those springs will tend to compress some, making that issue potentially worse. I have only assembled one of the two I received, the other may be better. Another issue I ran into this morning no matter what I tried (I was pressing down on the back of the top round with a nylon punch) , I could only get 14 rounds in the mag. Also, because the thumb assist disappears after the 10th round those additional rounds are tough to get in. Some type of loading gadget assist (UpLULA) would help, but you might consider in the future offering dedicated 15 round mags. Very nice engineering though. thanks

Jeff

Unless I’m doing something wrong and I didn’t get any instructions, There is not nearly enough pressure on the follower. Let me know what you think. Thanks

jeff
Sir, Have you tried the mag in your action to verify it runs fine with current spring pressure ?

Hard to say if it will work or not based on What you feel...... Run it as it would be used to determine function.

Put this quick 5rd magazine extension video together for you guys having issues with getting 15rd into the mag and lack of spring tension. This video will explain why and how to fix it.

@Redfisher60

Here's a photo of an improperly installed magazine extension/spring... You can see the spring curled at the bottom instead of being 100% straight... installed this way, you will only fit 14rd in the mag and have weaker spring tension

Just ordered my RimX barreled action through Keystone accuracy! Big shout out to John Scandale for all of his help and patience with my millions of questions. By far the most I've ever spent on a firearm, so I've spent the last month debating which barrel/length/contour to go with. Thanks to Padom and Orkan for all their content and useful info. Now while I'm waiting, I better shoot the hell outa my 457 because I have a feeling she will be neglected soon...

Now buy a quality chassis/stock, trigger, scope and a few bricks of different lots of CenterX and youre ready to go. Lol

Haha, IT NEVER ENDS! That's part of the fun though, right? I'm in Northern Kentucky, the new Lapua center is about 2 hours north. A "field trip" will be in order!

So far, the 3 various RimX barrels Ive tested have all loved CenterX and all shot personal best 6x5's with different lots. So this setup has not been picky like we are used to finding that golden lot for our 22LR's.

I just ordered 3 more bricks, all different lots to continue to prove this theory. Each lot I get has shot amazing to date in my RimX.

I went with your exact bartlien barrel, 20" threaded m24. My stockpile of SK+ is rooting for similar results you've had.

Ray the video padom posted fixed both issues, but without that video, I would not have known how to solve the issue. Some installation instructions would help :) . Thanks.

I’m in on the Keystone accuracy deal. I went with the green mountain heavy palma sport Contour barrel at 16 “. I think that will work nicely suppressed. This may be the one that takes the top spot over my 455 Cz that @djdilliodon Built me years ago.
Thanks @padom for your contribution and hard work.

I am also very interested in a Bartlein carbon fiber barrel.

Looking at getting a Bix and Andy 2 stage Tac Pro trigger for the Rim X. Does anyone know the sear height that is required. Default low or high (3.6, 3.8 or 4.0). Also any thoughts on Using the trigger?

Looking at this and the CG X-Treme Mod 22 2-stage. Any experience with both? preferences?
TIA

ALL Zermatt actions, including the RimX use a LOW sear in the TacSport Pro. I am running 4 of them on all my Zermatt actions with flat trigger shoes and low sears. Including my RimX. Best trigger I've ever used.

Call Don over @ BulletCentral, tell him you want a low sear installed and a trigger shoe if you want something other than the stock shoe. I prefer the 90 flat shoe....also let him know what you what the pull weight adjusted to. They installed my parts and tuned it all up and its amazing.

Any recommendations on the appropriate barrel vice, wrench and torque wrench to remove a barrel from a RimX action and install a different prefit barrel? Is there a single recommended torque or does the optimal torque depend on the barrel?

Thanks for any intel.

I’ve been using a barrel vice like this for years (viper). It’s a one size fits all. The vice that Orkan posted looks nice but It requires you to purchase bushings depending on Barrel size and I have never needed anything that specific.
As for torque, I don’t use a set number. I just screw it on.

This vice also looks interesting:

The Viper vice will work fine, I used one for a few years without issue. I sold it and got one of the first 5 SAC Modular barrel vice's with all the bushings when Mark opened that pre-order up a few years back or whenever it was. Awesome, bulletproof, built to last forever vice that is super easy to use.

I use the Zermatt wrench and every barrel in my review I have torqued to 65ft lbs.

GOODY2x AM RIM X fanatics, you fellow continue and continue to AMAZE ME.Very good informative topics here, very educational stuff! BTW IF you buy RIMX WRENCH ACTION you should know that it is not for 13/16" deep socket? My 1 cent opinion.

Youre posts are hard to understand. Zermatt's action wrench for the RimX is the same wrench for all their actions that has been around for years since the TL3 came out. Maybe earlier than that even..... Its always been a 7/8 socket

I talked to Zermatt about using the CG triggers with the RimX. I’ve been using the CG’s for several years. Because of the sear hieght of the CG Zermatt will need to fit/grind/time the cocking piece to the trigger. Said it was no big deal, send them the action and trigger. No doubt it’ll be timed well.

I've never fired this rifle with a tuner until just a few days ago. All of the previous 4,000+ rounds documented in this thread and on instagram were without a tuner.

I don't care for shooting paper targets beyond 50yds with a 22lr due to the environmental effects having such a large impact on performance. Having said that, I've spent time at 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, and 300yds with this rifle. To date, performance at extended ranges in acceptable conditions has produced results every bit as good as I've seen up close. So at 100yds I'm getting groups from the .3's to .6's relatively easy. Yet, it's so wildly affected by the tiniest imperceptible twitch in the wind... it just isn't something I'm excited to talk about. Just the other day I shot a 6x5 at 100yds that would take the #1 spot with room to spare. Doesn't mean I don't have fun doing it, because I do. It's important to me that our rimfires be able to stretch their legs. Maybe I'll start showcasing some 100yd performance in the future. I'll have to think it over a bit.

I'll attempt to placate you with a demonstration from today, when I was doing a product demo for www.targethangingsolutions.com on their rimfire prairie dog target. P-dog was at 125yds and I put 5 shots inside a dime, CTC. This is not unusual for this rifle, but quite normal, and very expected.

So as I wait patiently for my barreled action to arrive, I've been shopping around for chassis/stocks to house this bad boy. I'm quite interested in a Foundation; they are beautiful and sounds like good people to work with, but 1300 bucks is alot of cheddar. Same goes with Manners, McMillan, MDT, MPA etc. On the other side of the spectrum (price wise), the KRG bravo has caught my eye. Who has experience with one? How well does the rifle balance? I'll be running a 20" M24 contour for weight referance. Will I be happy with a bravo, or will I have wished I saved more nickels and dimes for one of the "top tier" chassis/stocks?

Another option in the same price line as the Bravo is the MDT XRS which is really nice. A hybrid between a stock and chassis... You have LOP and Cheek adjustment, comes with different grip profiles. You can add on their ARCA rail....

Or if you want a full on chassis but dont have the money for say an MPA or MDT ACC you can get an XLR Element 3.0 for about the same price as the BRAVO or XRS. This is probably your best option as I own many XLR's and was my first chassis.... Im a chassis guy, I can adjust it perfect to my liking every time. I just cant ever feel comfortable behind a stock. I also own the MDT ACC, MDT XLR, XLR Envy and XLR Envy Pro, and many more chassis. They all are nice you just have to decide what you want to spend. I sold my MPA Comp, I wasnt the biggest fan over the MDT ACC or XLR Envy..

Or if you want to step up to their XLR Envy Pro chassis you can do that for about half the price of the Foundation or MDT ACC. So really depends on what you want to spend...

@padom thanks for all the good info, as always! The closest thing I've gotten to handle that resembles a chassis is my father's Ruger Prec. rimfire. I know that's probably not a great comparison, but closest reference I have. I'll look into the XLR's. However, the reason I was leaning towards more the bravo or foundation is because I like the feel and look (I know, petty) of a stock. But...like I said I haven't really handled any chassis systems, so maybe I'd feel differently with one in my hands.

Looks are secondary to being comfortable behind a stock or chassis and be able to build a solid, comfortable shooting position. If its a gun to show off to your buddies and be a safe queen, thats a different story. But if you plan to shoot it regularly and shoot it accurately you want something you are 100% comfortable behind and feels natural. This is the first step to shooting accurately imho...

You may want to search out some shops, places in your ao to get behind some of the stocks/chassis youre planning on buying or are on your short list before dropping coin on something you may not be comfortable behind but looks nice....
