Night Vision Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG60 field review and sample video

Pulsar has been gracious enough to send me an XG60 for a period of time to test and evaluate. I have had the opportunity to take it out on a couple coyote hunts and tinker around on targets with the ballistics. So far with the correct data , velocity, temp, altitude. Ect., it has been dead on. I was skeptical on the 4x base mag but I have to say I love it. Bc of this scope being a 60mm objective, the field of view doesn’t suffer being a 4x . The picture is crispy. The eye relive (upgraded ocular lense) is amazing. I am very impressed with the battery life, as i have not even run half power down in a whole evening of hunting . Optic has held zero through a couple hunts and several range visits. Overall I am extremely happy with this unit . I think I am going to test an XL60 next. YouTube video below of some coyote hunt footage all with the Thermion 2 LRF XG60.

Reloading Equipment K&M Neck Turning Tool Organizer

****New items added to the hyperlinks*******

Printed up an organizer for my K&M equipment since I dont have a case. Also made a "gripper nut" for the shell holder to make it easier to tighten and loosen the case holder. If anybody could use one. If anybody has any questions or custom requests please let me know.

$33 K&M Turning tool organizer (includes gripper nut and set screws): Has the organizing rack that holds 10 total expanding mandrels or turning pilots in any combination, 7 shell holders, 5 of the threaded cutting bits, the turning tool, expanding mandrel holder and the shellholder tool. Can be mounted to the wall via 2 #8 screws or sat on a shelf.
$18 Gripper Nut Only (with set screws): Gripper nut to fit over the shell holder tool making it easier to remove cases. When installing this on the shell holder tool, align the hex shapes and press the tool all the way into the printed holder making sure its fully seated and then tighten the two set screws until they are just below visible. If excessive resistance is felt while tightening the set screws make sure the tool is fully seated into the printed holder. It is a snug fit and can seem like its full when it is not.

Reloading Equipment Brass Shavings Catchers

Ive been going around and making items for my reloading hobbies and I have made some brass catchers to save some clean up time for the trimmers I use. If anybody could use one I can print more up. I can customize other items also if needed. Shoot me a PM. can do black or red for any of them. If not specified I will ship what I have ready.

$28 RCBS Trimmer And Trim Pro II: This shavings catcher will work with the old rcbs trimmer or the trim pro II. If you have the old trimmer that takes shell plates let me know so I can send the pilot holder that has places for the shell plates, otherwise the trim pro II pilot rack only has places for the pilots. The pilot rack can be bench mounted or wall mounted. The catcher pan will just sit on the trimmer and can be removed to empty. This will come with a press fit cutter shroud to help contain brass from flying outside the catcher if running the cutter at high speed. I would only recommend using the shroud if needed. To install the shroud be careful pressing on and only press as far as to align with back of cutter head.

$25 TYD ( $35 TYD Large case collet holder) LE Wilson brass catcher: catcher for the LE wilson trimmer: The catcher sits on the rails and is matched to lock in place. When you are ready to empty just lift it off and dump it. This also has a rack that can be mounted on the wall or shelf for the case collets (7) and allen wrench.*****I have included a new option of a covered 14 case collet holder instead of the uncovered 7. If you want the Covered 14 model the cost will be $35 TYD. It will come standard with the uncovered 7 holder so if you want the larger one you must specify. Thanks.

$25 TYD Hornady Cam Lock Trimmer Brass Catcher: The catcher tray is magnetically attached to the blade cover so all you have to do is pull it off, empty it and place it back on. Also includes the Pilot rack that holds the allen keys and pilots. this pilot rack can be mounted to the table, wall or just sat on top of a bench/shelf.

$25 TYD Lyman Express Trimmer Brass Catcher: This has a basket that just slides underneath the trimmer head that catches the shavings. Remove it and dump them out. Also has a small collet rack that can sit on the trimmer or just sit on the bench. One of the images shows my first larger collet rack but thats too bulky, only going with the smaller one but the image shows how it sits on the trimmer.

$15 TYD Hornady Trio Brass Catcher: This has a basket that just slides underneath the trimmer head that catches the shavings. Remove it and dump them out.

$17 Frankford Arsenal Brass Catcher: This has a basket that just slides up to the trimmer head that catches the shavings. Remove it and dump them out. Will work with Both frankford models.

$27 TYD Forster Original Trimmer brass catcher: The catcher sits on the rails and can be moved left or right. When you are ready to empty just lift it off and dump it. This also has a rack that can be mounted on the wall or shelf for the case collets (6) and allen wrench and pilots.

$27 TYD Redding 2400 Trimmer Brass Catcher: The catcher sits on the trimmer under the cutter and can be moved left or right. When you are ready to empty just lift it off and dump it. There is also a shroud that can be used to cover the cutter to help prevent brass from flying outside the catcher basket, if you are not spinning the case very fast then the shroud isn't needed. This also has a rack that can be mounted on the wall or shelf for the pilots and tools.

$26 TYD Lyman Universal Trimmer Brass Catcher: The catcher sits on the trimmer under the cutter and can be moved left or right. Since the cutter base has a radius, if the catcher isint staying where you need it you can use one of the pilots to place into the pilot holes right behind the catcher basket to keep it from sliding toward the middle. When you are ready to empty just lift it off and dump it. There is also a shroud that can be used to cover the cutter to help prevent brass from flying outside the catcher basket, if you are not spinning the cutter very fast then the shroud isn't needed. This also has a rack that can be mounted on the wall or shelf for the pilots and tools.

I.O.T.A (Indoor Optical Training Aid)

Everyone says dry fire, dry fire, dry fire, and then do some more dry firing to improve your fundamentals, and positional shooting skills. If this is the case, how come most shooters don’t do it?

I believe that most guys don’t dry fire because they can’t do it in the comfort of their own home without having to put their cross hairs on their neighbor’s house or focus on something down the street. Depending on where you live, you could get a visit by your local PD.

We all know most scopes are not designed to focus down to 10 to 12 feet, which is the distance that can be found in any house or apartment hallway. Most of the scopes I have used won’t even focus down at 20 feet clearly and parallax free to enable me to really focus on the sight picture while dry firing.

Chuck from Reno, Nevada has developed a new gadget that will make dry firing indoors a whole new experience. Chuck calls his little invention the I.O.T.A, Indoor Optical Training Aid. The guys in our club have been the guinea pigs for the last several months for this neat gadget that will allow a shooter to focus a 20X scope down to 10 feet, clearly and parallax free. The sight picture is so clear and focused that you can actually see the fibers on a piece of paper at 10 feet on 20X.

The unit itself is rather simple, and works flawlessly. Each I.O.T.A is made for a specific objective diameter of a particular optic. The one Chuck made for me is designed for my Premier 5-25X. The unit comes completely assembled and ready to go. All the shooter has to do is take off their existing objective lens cover and replace it with the I.O.T.A. No other modification is needed to your scope in order to use the I.O.T.A.

DSC00675.jpg

BAM! Now you can focus down to about 10 feet on 20X with your Premier 5-25X. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

DSC00679.jpg

Here is my dry firing setup in my bedroom. All I needed was 10 feet from the scope to the target.

DSC00681.jpg

DSC00669.jpg

I used a moving box with a few small dots for my point of aim. There is a ½” dot that I use for positional practice, a ¼”” dot I use for speed drills, and a little dot I put on the box with a sharpie for prone dry firing practice.

DSC00674.jpg

Here are a few pictures taken through the scope to give you an idea of what the sight picture looks like. To be fair to the I.O.T.A, I suck at taking pictures like this. It took me 45 freaking minutes to get these. When you are actually behind the scope, the sight picture is crystal clear. I had my Premier set at 20X - 25X focused on a target 10 feet away

DSC00659.jpg

DSC00663.jpg

DSC00658.jpg

DSC00653.jpg

Now I am able to dry fire with a clear and parallax free sight picture inside the comfort of my own home.

After having the chance to play with the I.O.T.A for a bit, I came up with the target pictured below. It has dots small enough for slow fire prone, speed drills, hold over drills, and positional practice. The I.O.T.A can also be used to ensure your reticle is lined up correctly via a plumb line. You will be amazed how clearly you can focus on a thin piece of thread at 10 feet.

IOTATarget.jpg

I believe Chuck will be offering these for around $60.00 shipped. The price is right considering the cost of match ammo and components these days. Chuck goes by 264shooter on the Hide, or can be reached at [email protected]. He was hesitant about putting this out there for sale in the mainstream, but I think the I.O.T.A. can help all of us improve our shooting while save a few bucks on ammo.

SOLD Harris picatinny bipods VGC 95 shipped ea.

20250508_161418.jpg
I have three 6-9" Harris bipods with picatinny attachments and Short Action Precision tension levers on them. They are the "S-BRP"s, where the smooth legs are sprung inwards, and held in place w/ the tension knobs. 95 shipped paypal f&f only.
This is about a 40 dollar savings from buying new. I used these very little as I prefer my other harris sbrp where the legs spring out.
These are nice and light weight, lock up pretty tight, and take up little room in the rifle bag.

No trades, and paypal f&f preferred.

Bergara sucks ass, buyer beware.

These rifles are pure trash. Against my better judgement I bought a new B14 Sierra Wilderness in 7PRC after already having been burned 2 times by rifles of theirs that shot like crap out of the box (including a premier).

The first trip to the range right out of the box it was shooting roughly 4-6” groups with all three types of Hornady factory ammo. I started with a barrel that I had cleaned at home prior to the range trip and did a break in since factory barrels are known to be rough. Even during the break in and cleaning the barrel frequently the groups were a whole hell of a lot larger than you’d ever expect to see.

Everything was checked for torque, I pulled that optic off of the rifle and put it on my PH2 6.5CM and confirmed there wasn’t an issue with it and put the optic from my PH2 on the Bergara with the same result. Also tried different torque settings on the action screws other than their 55inlbs spec going to 65 on both and also lightening the rear. I also pulled the barreled action out of the chassis where I saw a lot of heavy overspray from their panting process and proceeded to sand the thick webbing spots down at the range. Nothing I did changed the result.

After 60 rounds the rifle was still shooting like absolute dog shit and copper fouling like crazy. I called Bergara on the way home from the range and got an RMA to send it in.

At home I inspected the rifle where I noticed the absolute terrible bolt lug contact and thought that might be causing an issue as well so I noted that when I sent it in.

Bergara inspected the rifle, recrowned it and said it shot a .9” and .6” group with Terminal Ascent 170gr and sent it back out. They didn’t address the bolt lug contact issue or the issue with the hinge pin on the floorplate of the bottom metal falling out of one side of the hinge due to the pin either being too short or the relief being too wide and their “gunsmith” said was in spec.

I was hopeful it would shoot as I do generally like the rifle and it has improved but it still shoots like complete ass. I even bedded the stock since it was showing signs of a bedding issue and Bergara fucked up the paint in the inlet while they had it which uncovered how uneven and thick the paint was in places. The bedding seemed to have made a difference because the erratic flyers are gone and it’s just shooting large triangle type 3 shot groups now… for the most part.

I got frustrated at the range after group after group being 1.5-2MOA with every ammo type include the Terminal Ascent they recommended for another 50-60 rounds or so. I had cleaned the copper mine yet again with bore tech eliminator which is quite the process due to how badly it fouls and decided I was just going to put some rounds through it to try to smooth it out in 10 round strings. So I shot the first two 3 shot groups back to back and they were… large. Loaded up another 3 and it stacked them sub .5moa… no shit. So I shot a 4th and it put it right in there. At this point I’m thinking this thing is starting to shoot and get excited. I shot another 3 shot group with the barrel super hot with was also very good.

So I let it cool completely and shot another 3 shot group… back to dog shit. WTF? I cleaned it again and shot two more 3 shot groups with the same result. I was done wasting ammo so I put it away. I was thinking the barrel might have a stress relieving issue based on this and texted another hide member what had happened and he said the same thing.

I also brought my Seekins Element 7mm PRC to the range and shot them side by side and all of the ammo shot exceptional in the Seekins, so I know it’s not an issue with the ammo or an issue with recoil. Despite the Seekins being nearly 3lbs lighter as configured it still didn’t manage a group larger than 3/4moa, even the 8 shot group I fired in 1.5min trying to mimic barrel heat over a NRLH stage.

So here we are yet again, I called Bergara again and they said they’ll issue another RMA and look at it again but won’t test fire it. I feel like that’s a waste of my time when I’ve already gone down that road with negative results so I have zero faith in a positive outcome from that nor do I wish to waste any more time or ammo verifying the rifle when it comes back. I proposed that they either 1. Accept the rifle back and issue a full refund of my purchase price or 2. Agree to rebarrel the rifle so that I can send it down the road with some level of confidence that whoever bought it might get a decent rifle. They denied both.

I’ve followed up with the same documentation of my results in an email as well as my proposal. I doubt anything will come of it so my next step will be to send it to a gunsmith next week for a third party evaluation and I’ll then just take legal action and seek the cost of the rifle, inspection fees, as well as the ammo I’ve wasted on this piece of crap.

So my advice, buy a rifle from just about any other rifle manufacturer.

I’ll update this later tonight or tomorrow with some pictures as well as update it with third party findings or any resolution from Bergara.
